Chris Martin tries a new Styles

One Direction were given a special shout out by indie rockers Coldplay at a gig on Thursday, according to The Sun.

 

The paper reports that frontman Chris Martin knew that 1D heartthrob Harry Styles was in the audience - and shouted out a line from What Makes You Beautiful as the band launched into a rendition of Yellow.

 

Harry was obviously thrilled by the tribute - he later wrote on Twitter: "Icon. Coldplay were in another class tonight!!"

 

The 18-year-old then shared a link to a video he had taken of the moment, posting: "Good night guys... I leave you with the best video I've ever seen.

 

"This was incredible."

:disappointed: things like this and bieber lady gaga comments from chris really dont help the band's image at all. yes i know as coldplay fans we're pretty used to getting ridiculed but these things just make it worse!

 

nothing wrong in associating with flaming lips or kanye and jay-z cuz they're actually super cool and great musicians (kanye is a genius) and people take them seriously but one direction?! really pisses me off

 

anyway i know chris sees nothing wrong with this and maybe thats the problem

The One Direction, Bieber, and GaGa comments from Chris in YOUR opinion hurts the band and their image... then you were ok with associating FL, Kanye, or Jay-Z, because in YOUR opinion they were cool... Well personally I can't stand "Kanye", Bieber, but really like GaGa and a few songs from One Direction, and the image of Coldplay in my mind has not been altered at all.

Wish people could just enjoy Coldplay without getting upset with what THEY think Chris and Coldplay should be doing..I think they are doing exactly what the hell they want to be doing and are quite successful in the Universe... Either you like it or ya dont:cool:

Personally I don't see what the big deal is. He just did something nice for a fan. I say fan because this guy or teenager, I don't know admires him. So put ourselves in his shoes, if someone you really looked up to went out of their way at their concert to acknowledge you, this would be like one of your happiest moments ever and that's very sweet of him to do. BTW I like Lady Gaga, thank you very much.

ObloodyMG we have 1D fans here look what the world has come to!! trust me until 2/3 years ago they could do no wrong in my eyes either but a lot has changed since. but as you said, they could do whatever the hell they want now. could do dance again No.2 with j lo and pitbull for instance or make their own xfactor episodes. i mean it wont necessarily be wise but it'd be what they want right?

Thank you, and yeah Chris loves pop music so much that a lot of the pop icons of today inspired Mylo, such as Gaga and Rihanna. You might not like them, but that doesn't mean that those artist are not good at what they do and obviously Chris agrees.

In Miami, several of the Heat were at the show. He made many references to the team during the show. Was that "Trying too hard?" Chris gave a shoutout during Fix You to a teenage girl who contracted a rare disease two weeks before the show and who just had heart surgery and wasn't able to attend the concert as planned, but her friends were there to hear it. Was that " trying too hard?" Like it or not, 1D is one of the most popular bands in the world and even accomplished something that Coldplay, or any other UK band hasn't done in 14 years - and that's enter the US charts with a #1 debut single. I just don't understand the uproar over it. It's just something that Chris does, has always done and always will do. Sure you're entitled to your opinion, but think about it in the bigger context and it just doesn't matter what Chris does. It's HIS show and he can do what he wants.

Uh oh, I better watch it now because those green bell pepper lovers are going to jump all over me now, and wonder how I can NOT LOVE green bell peppers because they are so much better than red bell peppers. I never said I support artists like Lady Gaga, etc. I like rock-oriented bands, so yes, I agree that they are very good musicians. That said, I don't think you understand Chris is just being nice.

 

It's better than some artists consistently dissing the music industry for anything they don't like.
