Are there any specific, non-generic questions you would ask the band or a member? Like, about the inspiration for and the genesis of a song or an album or something else that no one ever asked them? I often come up with quite original questions and I wonder why don't big fans interview bands, they would ask much more interesting questions than a casual reporter.

 

The Howard Stern interview was the most insightful one I've ever watched. Probably because it was long and laid back and really funny/awkward at times but it also provided many little answers about a lot of songs.

 

I personally would love to spend time with bands in the studio as a fan and/or journalist and watch the creative process. But I understand how that may be very intrusive and contra-productive for many bands including Coldplay.

i'd ask them a bunch of nerdy music/production-related questions which i can't remember now (or put to words without sound) that i come up with while listening to songs.

 

i'm not a musician but music making is getting increasingly interesting to me so i'm thinking of learning to play an instrument. also i'm interested in playing with drum machines and samplers, this type of thing so a majority of questions to musicians would be directed to that, and watching them work as an opportunity to learn

 

of course, coming up with your own songs is infinitely more difficult
