The 5th song is a single on every album (if you don't count the instrumentals in Mylo Xyloto)

Nr 5 on MX is Us against the world.

OK I'm really giving it away now ! Look closely, are the singles equally interspersed in album songs, or PERHAPS NOT ? (wink, wink ;))

Well that's why I gave up on this theory to begin with- they are clearly NOT! Clever if this is the answer. I took "what they have in common" to mean they'd have to be in the same position but now I see that it is something in common if they are not.

 

From what I see, we have:

 

12,3,5 so spaces between = 9,2

4,8,2,5 so 4,6,3 apart

5,2,10,14, 4,3,7 so 3,8,4,10,1,4 apart

9, ?, 3, 5,7,8 (Life in Technicolor I I - ? Not on VLV) so 3 (LITi is #1), 2,3,2,1 apart

3,5,4,6 so 2,1,2 apart

6,5,2 so 1,3 apart

 

Is this what you are getting at? How do you address VLV, since LITii is not on it and you said EPs were not included?

Look closely for the singles in each album. What do you notice about their positions relative to each other ? Also remember that X&Y is the second clue and converges on the same principle. X AND Y....

To clarify: first sets of numbers are the positions of the singles on the albums.
