Why should I listen to GS?

Featured Replies

Ok so I just want some reasons why I should listen to that latest album of that band Coldplay. Give me good reasons because I think I almost lost all my faith in their ability to make music after MX.

Oh I don't really know if this is the right place of the forum to post this...

Its a great example of clean production and music that knows when and where to have spaces to leave the song to breathe and when it needs something to fullfill it, great basslines and great use of synths.

lyrics: meh

guitars: meh

drums: if you like classic drums meh, if you like electric drums then man this album is dedicated to your lovin for dem drums

but in its whole its a really ambiental and spacey (does this word even exist lmao) album to listen to if you want to relax ( apart maybe for ASFOS)

btw i think im gonna appreciate coldplay at 100% if one day they would come out with something 1/4 as good as the shittiest Massive Attack song cause god that band never did any wrong

Because it beautiful. Because It comes from the heart. Because if comes from lessons of life, love and loss.

The wisdom and beauty in this album is well beyond the general talent of the current music industry.

I find every aspect of Ghost Stories mesmerising.

It is so perfectly balanced both musically and lyrically. And the artwork by Mila is beyond amazing. The whole production has been exquisitely crafted.

GS is so truly artistic that one needs to really look deeper to truly understand the gifts of brilliance so finely interwoven into every aspect of this album.

Coldplay are so very gifted. They truly create great productions of genius. This album is just one more in their collection of truly amazing art. Their ability to transform and change is never-ending & GS is just another example of how very talented they are.

this has to be put in prospective cause there are bands that have done so much more than them, coldplay still has time to improve fortunately, and i hope they do, they need to find something that tell them apart from every other radiofriendly band that you hear

This is just my perspective! I find the album brilliant!

I think this is where people get blurred with Coldplay. They truly are in such a unique niche of their own. They are so talented and artistic that they could be rather 'alternate' in a way and yet they are a still so mainstream. It must be a hard balancing act for them...

Anyway, all in all I appreciate coldplay for their immense talent and Ghost Stories for it's layered brilliance. So, I'm happily just going to keep on loving them xo

thanks for the answers guys but I need real reasons (not that they aren't good or so) but I threw away all my love for this band and went all to my Editors, Arcade Fire, Alt-J and other bands cd's

so tell me, why should I listen an album of a band that I neglected for at least 2 years?

Because it will illuminate you quite simply! You just have to feel it...

It's a music album. Take less than an hour of your day and listen to it and come to your own conclusion. Or don't - and forever be ignorant of an answer. It's your choice, not our responsibility.

Ha ha..I clearly walk to a different beat but I like doing that!

Seriously though look a little deeper into this album there are lots of hidden gems...

If you tossed away all your love for Coldplay, then don't listen to it. There is a world full of wonderful and diverse music out there that we are lucky to have, including the great bands you mentioned, that you can focus your attention on.

That being said, you should give it a listen because it is a vastly popular record that balances fun pop and alternative sounds. And IT IS music. It is music that was carefully, if not painstakingly, produced, composed and performed by real artists! For me that is enough reason to give any kind of music a fair try. Sure, MX and even Ghost Stories, in my opinion too, show a decline in quality for the great band that is Coldplay. But these records still mostly contain a lot of great material. There have strong emotional moments, happy sad, sublime, and the songs are filled with layered and musically complex progressions. For Ghost Stories, put on a good pair of headphones, turn the lights low, and mellow out. You will, I guarantee, enjoy a considerable amount of the album.

Because it's very different from MX. The lyrics are very obvious and rather meh (yes Tom Smith is ten times better at coming up with great lyrics) but it has Midnight on it, one of their best songs ever imo. For the rest I think it's just a nice album, not extremely brilliant, just nice. And if we forget about ASFOS, a lot less commercial than MX. And no Rihanna :awesome: I doubt this album will get you into Coldplay again, but hell, it's a good album, it deserves a listen or 2. Or 3

Edit: I forgot to mention the bonus tracks. They're the best

Why do you waste all your time waiting for our answers and posting your own posts instead of just downloading that album somewhere and spend 42 minutes listening to it. And if you like it, buy it, if not, spend your money on something else.

What a pointless question.

If you ask yourself why you should do something, then the answer is already in the question.

Go on with your life and listen to something you're actually curious and excited about.

Chill ppl. I think The Doctor was just asking our opinion. On the other hand, I read the title of the thread and I was like. "WTF? , how can you not love this album and how can you have not heard it all ready :P" But I think this thread discusses why we love, like, or dislike the album. It's a forum and that's what it's all about, diiscussing Coldplay.

Ghost Stories has real feelings and emotions, unlike MX, imho.

People here already gave you good statements about the album, if you're still not interested in GS then you shouldn't listen to it.

It's not amazing, but it's better. It's like Coldplay are getting over a cold, when in MX they were flu-level fever-hallucination rambling on sorta thing, if that makes sense. There might be a few songs you like enough to be good instead of average

Based on what you've said, I think the best specific reason for you in particular to listen to Ghost Stories is that it's far more similar to the band's "classic" sound circa Parachutes or AROBTTH than it is anything in their more recent work. If the reason you've stopped listening to the band is because you're not fond of the direction they've taken in the last couple albums, I'd say this album has a good chance of being what you're looking for out of this band.

I was planning on making a big mulit-quote post but I think I can also just write it like this

Yes I was actually asking for your opinions and wanted to know how it's different from the others

So yes I'm just going to look it up on YT, play it and see what I think of it (though I'm sure I will skip that one song that all dj's use now)

now I don't want to start a war or anything but I support Christa's opion, isn't this a place where you discuss things? I thought we were supposed to respect one another and their opions?

I might be wrong but I just wanted to say that.

(though I'm sure I will skip that one song that all dj's use now)

You are wise...

...but you've been on here long enough to know that Coldplay is SERIOUS BUSINESS, and all those that are not immediately asspatting OUR DEAR BOYS shall be branded 'HATER' across their sorry foreheads, then kicked in the behind into the fiery pits of FAN RAGE.

I know that but I feel like I moved my lovers and haters badges only use in arguments about food and politics :|

now I listened to it and I liked Ink, yup that one, the rest was rather meh to me

I still maintain that song title is weird because it references scarification instead of ink specifically

(it's probably me that's the weird one there)
