What are Coldplay's greatest melodies ?

Featured Replies

Another discussion thread to bridge the waiting time for LP7. Coldplay is remarkable and differs from many other bands out there in that not just one or two songs, but the vast majority of their songs contain timeless, powerful, simply great melodies !

What is your take on Coldplay's most remarkable melodies ?

What comes to my own mind immediately (no particular order):

Viva La Vida

Trouble

Politik

Gravity

Speed Of Sound

What If

Clocks

A View From The Top

Fix You

Talk (credit goes to Kraftwerk but imho the Coldplay version shines more)

A Rush of Blood To The Head

The Scientist

Cemeteries of London

A Message

Charlie Brown

Ghost Story

Things I don't Understand

Crests of Waves

Fly On

Glass Of Water

Every Teardrop is a Waterfall

LiT and LiTii

Lost

Shiver

Paradise

Bigger Stronger

Princess of China

White Shadows

^ Those come to mind for me as well (though I wish we had a better recording of A View From The Top so that we could truly appreciate it). For me, Hurts Like Heaven, Lovers In Japan, Moses, In My Place, Daylight, One I Love, and Major Minus also come to mind. They each have those catchy yet powerful melodies that can fill an arena.

Just to finish off the list above, I'm not sure if you agree with me but here's my picks:

Don't Let It Break Your Heart

Twisted Logic

Don't Panic

GPASUYF

Amsterdam

Only Superstition

Brothers & Sisters

Animals

Rainy Day

Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground

Midnight

All Your Friends

1.36

Spies

42

Ode To Deodrant

Us Against The World

Such A Rush

You've all got to admit that even the piano riff from ASFOS is pretty damn remarkable. And so is the overall melody of the song.

Lovers in japan, a spell rebel yell, glass of water, how you see the world and moving to mars are some of my favorites.

Everything.

Chris is up there with Paul McCartney and 90's Noel Gallagher in terms of melody for me.

^ Agreed. Honestly it's hard to NOT find a Coldplay song with a beautiful melody. Few artists are as skilled as Coldplay in writing powerful melodies.

Everything.

This this this.

I'm a big fan of Moving to Mars' guitar solo. The chant in VLV is also..PERFECT. Like...how did they do that?!

Love is the melody of all great music, and Co. have done it well. It's said Glastonbary is near to Earth's 4th Chakra, the Heart (Hear i(ai) T)...May Buddha (in you, like Home in you) helps this time :)
