I can't help it. It's a cross I have to bear.......................

:(

I was disappointed I didn't get to meet the reindeer, though.

Don't get nominated for 'Mr Mean' by keeping that reindeer joke coming.

At least you can claim this mentioning of a certain reindeer as referring to The Reindeer Section of Gary's.

Yes, it's highly appropriate in this thread, isn't it..............................

Anyway, you know which category to vote for me in!:D

i'm online now...& i see you're online too... ;)

Madonna & Michael Hutchence are what's missing...heh

well, i quite like both. but i think in the case of Ray of Light, it's definitely been reworked (pun not really intended) to be more "rock" sounding. for New Sensation, i believe it's been toned down somewhat, or at least it seems that way to me, compared to the energy of the INXS one (if i remembered that song right).

& thanks a lot for that link, Jen! :D

Chasing Cars sounds so lovely...& some great close ups of how he plays it. tho i'm left wondering why his fingers move around so much considering he's only really playing the same 2 strings throughout... :\

& Bianca, i agree with you! that interviewer looks real funny...especially when he's got a super serious deep in concentration look on his face (like some pretentious arty farty type who's trying to make some deep semiotic association to the song's words than there really is) as Gary talks about how he came up with the song.

 yeah, Kimmi- you're right... Madonna and Michael Hutchence *ARE* what's missing! :P I think you got it though, particularly with New Sensation, it doesn't have the energy of the original. I understand that they "reworked" them, and honestly, they're really growing on me. Still, I think my complaint is they kind of feel like there's no resolution....?

As for the Songbook link:

love this pic...

and wow, Gary's voice just melts me EVERYTIME. :wacky: You guys are right about the interviewer, though... And, I'm new to the Gary Lightbody fangirl thing, so maybe Bianca can enlighten me (:P) are those gorgeous green eyes Mr. Lightbody has? they look green, but I'm not sure. :inquisitive:

Thanks for the link, Jen!

But seriously I had to laugh so hard seeing the interviewer. He looks like he's from 1970 and just jumped into a time machine.

I could rather imagine the 70's Gary from the Singal Fire video having an interview with that guy! :laugh4:

THERE IS A SIGNAL FIRE video....i'm running to youtube....back in a few minutes! (worst fan everrrrr) i get so confused when they aren't on itunes!

thanks for the well-wishes everyone :)

OK yes, that video is adorable - fits great with the song. Is he not the cutest with that smile? oh boyyy ;)

all this reindeer talk is causing me to put "you are my joy" on repeat - love it

Jen - i really agree - at first i wasn't feeling ray of light but it is growing on me. its just so hard to hear covers and not wish they were the originals. I've only heard a few covers that i like better than the originals!

Bianca - LOVE the new siggy - love love love - during winter break i am going to figure out how to work my photoshop, i might need a new pointers then! hahah - about that interviewer too - hysterical :)

Hey Meredith! :nice:

Feeling any better? Hope you're on your way to recovery!

Funny that you called your self the "worst fan ever" for not knowing about the Signal Fire video... I only just saw it for the first time yesterday! :shame: I think I probably have the least amount of knowledge of you guys, but you all are helping me learn a lot! I take it "You Are My Joy" is a Reindeer Section song? (see, yet another thing I don't know!) Elena highly recommended the albums and I finally checked them out on amazon (where, amazingly enough, they are actually available), but I haven't had a chance to get them yet. The samples I heard were lovely, though!

i'm sorry, but i probably win for worst fan ever...cos i barely ever pay attention to or watch music videos. hence, i had no idea there was even a Signal Fire music video until it was mentioned.

& i seem to have an aversion towards the Spiderman movie franchise. so i have not really had a good listen to that song...if only cos i somehow now always associate it with Spiderman. :shame:

heh...now that you mention it, i think his eyes are green. i've never really taken notice of his eye colour...but then i tend to associate green eyes with Irishmen. :wink3:

oh & i'd just like to add that Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars is currently #5 on the Absolute Radio Song of the Decade voting!!! http://songofthedecade.com/

(personally, i think there are better/more deserving SP tracks...but then at least SP are represented on the top 5 as of now...heck, it's even ranked higher than Coldplay's Fix You, which is at #8 right now...& Yellow is playing on the channel as i type)

Got Up To Now, and its a great collection! Im not a hardcore fan, but avid enough to know lots of these songs. But I don't know most of them! Holy crap these are all amazing! They need to get back to Canada so I can see them again! They put the Coldplay show into the next level of fucking awesome!

Give Me Strength reminded me a lot of Signal Fire on guitar at first. Its a great track, the strings are an awesome touch. It builds like you usual Snow Patrol song, but its still pretty good I like it better then Just Say Yes.

Dark Roman Wine doesnt remind me of any Snow Patrol song. It has an organ and a revered Gary. Pretty much the entire song, it'll be amazing live in between two songs!

They are awesome Dar Roman Wine is defiantly for the fans and Give Me Strength is a mix of hit and quiter acoustic!

Its an awesome mix and will take me a week or two to full appreciate in all its greatness. Yeah I got the leak. I spend money on concerts not CDs.

cool. I'm waiting for the CD/DVD set. :D

Nice descriptions of those tracks. I CAN NOT WAIT to hear them.

you saw them open for Coldplay? I did, too... that's what hooked me. Got to see them headline last month and it was incredible. :wacky:

Yeah I was right up front too! The bass player gave me a few smiles and Gary seemed happy when I screamed "You guys fucking rock" between songs when it was quite. I also attribute the attention to being the only one in the building wearing a "A Hundred Million Suns" shirt. Ever Chris gave me a smile to standing out!

They were so awesome live. Gary is great and got the entire audience standing, literally everyone was in their seats rocking out! He also provided the best song dedication ever! "This is to those 4 guys in the fifth row that look like they want to kick my ass!"

Im waiting for them to come back!

^that's awesome :)

I got upgraded to the front row for that show, which was fantastic as far as Coldplay went, but unfortunately, at the time I knew nothing (other than Chasing Cars) of Snow Patrol. I felt really bad for kind of just sitting there. But they were awesome and I came home and started getting all their stuff! And yeah, I love how Gary does the crazy song dedications. ;)

I got upgraded to late to get front row. I did get the ramp seats though, so getting Jonny and Chris all night was great! I knew every word to every song! I love this band to death. They deserve to be way more popular in North America.

Snow Patrol sis great interacting with the crowd up front too! Those two show were the best shows because both bands were spot on and they are my top two. I just wish they did away with the Howlling Bells and gave Snow Patrol another 30 minutes!

that would have been cool, though I did like the Howling Bells, too.

But you're right, it is really too bad they're not more popular here. When I saw SP headline here, they played at a really small venue. Couldn't have been more than 2000 people there. Probably a lot less, actually. But the people there seemed like pretty hardcore fans, which was cool. That was a fantastic show.

Which album is your favorite?

Yeah they played to 16,000 in 2006 here in Vancouver. Intimate is always better though, cheap seats are 20 feet from the band!

Mine is defiantly a dead lock between "Eyes Open" and "A Hundred Million Suns". Those two albums have been on repeat since last year almost non stop. I'd pick Suns though, Photos is my all time favorite song, just after Open Your Eyes. Which was magical when they played it live 10 feet from me, it made my life! Then an hour and a bit later getting Politik. Did you find the lights for Politik very very blinding. I had to cover my face! I felt bad cause I think they got me on camera for the DVD.

 I don't particularly remember the lights being too bad. I was dead center, though, so that might have made a difference. Plus the fact that I was kind of stunned the whole time and it went by in a blur.

But you're definitely right about intimate gigs being better. You really feel like you make a connetion with the band. I made eye contact repeatedly with Paul, Gary and Jonny at the SP gig. Nathan was always staring off to the back. :P

Eyes Open is my favorite album, followed very closely by AHMS. I've been loving that one more and more lately, particularly Set Down Your Glass.

Well, it was nice chatting with you, but I am now officially exhausted! Have a good night... see you around!

Oh, I'm Jen, btw. :nice:

Hey!

Ummm... got upgraded by Coldplay's crew. Had seats up in the very upper tier at the very back....

I knew that roadies had been going around at shows giving upgrades to "true" fans, and sure enough, as I was walking around the concession area on the upper tier, I saw a roadie walking around.

I stopped him to ask him about where the c-stage was going to be and he told me... we chatted a bit and then he mentioned that I must be a big fan if I knew about the c-stage. I said, "I'M A HUUUUUGE FAAAANNNN!!!!" :P He asked me what CP's first album was, which I of course answered, and then he handed my sister and me front row, dead center tickets. It was absolutely mind-blowing and I don't think I stopped shaking until well after Coldplay came on!

^yeah, this is the Coldplay gig I went to, not Snow Patrol. Snow Patrol happened to be opening for Coldplay at that show.

Oh, just got what you meant. Yeah, at that particular show there was no pit. Which I'm sure sucked for people who weren't lucky enough to get upgrades. :P But, it was FABULOUS being in the very front without having to worry about losing your spot or someone squeezing past you, etc. etc.
