The Snow Patrol Thread

Featured Replies

Wow...I feel like I've abandoned this thread! I feel so ashamed.

I've resisted the leak of Up To Now, and I've started looking into The Reindeer Section, which I'd only heard like two songs from before. (I know this is the Snow Patrol Thread, not the Gary Lightbody thread, but still...) I'm liking what I'm hearing, but I'm still a bigger fan of good ol' SP. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of Reindeer Section reunion in the future, if at all possible.

  • Finally a new album from the band! Haven't heard the full album yet, just the 3 pre-released songs and they're great.

Oh guys, I couldn't go on the computer for nearly two days and missed here so much. :dead: Will you take me back although I'm just catching up with all the news?

As for the Songbook link:

love this pic...

540-Gary_Lightbody_(4)1_medium.jpg:heart:

and wow, Gary's voice just melts me EVERYTIME. :wacky: You guys are right about the interviewer, though... And, I'm new to the Gary Lightbody fangirl thing, so maybe Bianca can enlighten me (:P) are those gorgeous green eyes Mr. Lightbody has? they look green, but I'm not sure. :inquisitive:

Would be a pleasure for me, Jen! :D (Yay, someone actually needs me! )

Well, it's funny, but I have the same eyes as him. :smug: Sometimes his are blue, sometimes more grey, and on some days - like that of the acoustic set with the 1970's interviewer - they are green. Or slightly green. Depends on the mood and stuff.

I know that very well and people get so confused by it. They had a hard time figuring my eye colour out for my ID.

But mostly his are grey. (Don't tell you what mine are looking like, that would sound so pathetic and like a total stalker :laugh4:)

THERE IS A SIGNAL FIRE video....i'm running to youtube....back in a few minutes! (worst fan everrrrr) i get so confused when they aren't on itunes!

thanks for the well-wishes everyone :)

The Signal Fire video actually is on iTunes. No. 3 in the first Snow Patrol videos (at least in the UK store :P).

And you're not the worst fan.

Bianca - LOVE the new siggy - love love love - during winter break i am going to figure out how to work my photoshop, i might need a new pointers then! hahah - about that interviewer too - hysterical :)

Can't wait to see what you're coming up with the next few weeks! :)

i'm sorry, but i probably win for worst fan ever...cos i barely ever pay attention to or watch music videos. hence, i had no idea there was even a Signal Fire music video until it was mentioned.

Nobody is!!

Jealous of all you guys going to the RAH gig!!

I'll be waiting on reports and pics when you guys get back ;)

I have to do that as well. :\ Maybe we can wait together? ;)

So did I. Anyways, I got the links to the two new songs for those in here who want to listen to them. I didn't. I turned YouTube to mute immediately.

And it's okay when you're talking about The Reindeer Section here, Michael. Although it's called the Snow Patrol thread, I think we all agree that we can talk about everythin Snow Patrol related here. :nice:

Must...resist...

For the record, "Worst fan ever" is somebody who watched Grey's Anatomy, saw the montage with "Chasing Cars" playing, bought (or heck, pirated) Eyes Open and only listened to Chasing Cars over and over without listening to anything else on the album, and claims that they're the biggest fan of the band ever. They think they're the best fan. And trust me, there's a lot of those people. If you know two or more songs from Snow Patrol, then you're a better fan than tens of thousands.

Like I said, we're all not bad fans and nobody of us is the worst fan anyway. :nice:

Remind me to show my lovely Polar Teddies some stuff I found tomorrow! :D

AHHHH JEN! you get results - can't say I'm surprised! That's a great video but it was so awesome to be there too .... even when i think about it now i can't help but smile :)

get a chance to listen to any reindeer section yet? i guess its not really snow patrol, but gary makes it count ;-)

 Yeah, I'm sure being there was 1 million times better! :wacky:

I haven't really heard any Reindeer Section other than little sample snippets. but I like what I've heard! I just need to get it already!

cool! it will be my 2nd SP concert, i've only seen them once before in February in Bournemouth. would've like to have seem them a few years ago!

i like it but its a bit slow-going, good for chilling out though, Gary's voice is lovely:heart::heart:

So jealous of all of you going to the Reworked gigs! can't wait to hear all about them!! :nice:

you have abandoned us, Michael! Shame! :whip:

I've been resisting the leak, too. And I think I've done a really stupid thing. I told my husband that all I wanted for xmas was the deluxe cd/dvd set (my 3 coldplay shows this year were my big present! :P). But now, I DON"T THINK I CAN WAIT THAT LOOOOONNNNGGG!!!!! :bomb:

aaargh! I'm not going to click! I'm not going to click! I'm not going to click! :uhoh:

and Bianca- why do we have to remind you to show us something tomorrow? Why can't you show us NOW?? ;)

get a chance to listen to any reindeer section yet? i guess its not really snow patrol, but gary makes it count ;-)

i've been listening to their albums lately & i do like a few of the tracks. tho some are leaning a little bit too much into the country type of music for my liking, admittedly.

& i somehow feel that some of the reworked songs (i.e. the Union Chapel sessions) kinda sound Reindeer Section-ish. but that just may be my opinion. :dozey:

Must...resist...

cool! so both you & Gary have...ermmm...naturally colour changing eyes! :D

oh & happy days!!! i checked my email & there's 1 from Universal Music saying that my order for the Up To Now boxset's been sent out & is on it's way to me in 2 working days (if i understood right...so that means i get it on launch day)!!! SNOW SQUEEE!!!:dance::dance:

don't even get me started on Grey's Anatomy! although everyone here already knows my hatred for that show...haha but that was a vivid picture, and i agree those people are probably awful fans ;-) :)

Bianca - glad you are backkk seriously yesterday I was like - where the hell is sheeee?!!! glad the internet is back that must have been torture.

I clicked and listened - :D love love love can't wait to own it for my very own self

DO YOU believe that the signal fire video isn't on sale in the US itunes store - at least if it is, it's not showing up on mine. which explains why i didn't know there was one!

whoever said that "give me strength" sounds a little bit like "signal fire" at the beginning was spot on - good call!

I just bought the deluxe edition CD/DVD today. It is SOOOOO good. It's worth buying just for the packaging, which is amazing. It's awesome to have 'Just Say Yes' belting out of my record player, too!!

^yay, Kimmi... that's so exciting! I want pics of it when you get it! :P

Found this cool article to get you guys hyped for your upcoming shows:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/music/2716008/Snow-Patrol-rock-their-local-pub.html#ixzz0W0geRAHH

and it came with this pic and I just couldn't resist posting it here... :wacky:

Snow_Patrol_922632a.jpg

will do! ;)

the irony of this whole situation now is i can't actually listen/watch anything in that boxset when i get it! :bigcry: my PC's still in the repair shop & the laptop i'm currently using doesn't have a CD/DVD player...& i don't own a vinyl player either. darnit. :disappointed:

& that article wins my award for most cheesy choice of news photo tagline : "On Patrol ... frontman Gary Lightbody was on top form at North London gig" :P

+ it looks like we won't be hearing Starfighter Pilot anytime soon on the Reworked Tour...

"Gary refused to bow to pressure from his record label to perform Starfighter Pilot as it "burns my soul to play it, it has the worst f***ing lyrics ever."" must be his English Lit educated self protesting there about the level of wordplay used in that song.

@ Jen

I said tomorrow because I got a lot to show you.

Seems I really got a lot - ready for that? :sneaky:

Ready!!! :D *rubs hands together in anticipation*

@Rad-Cold- thanks for the link! :nice:

It is, Meredith. :nice:

Good image, snow joking

Watching the ever-enchanting Snow Patrol on Channel 4 last weekend I was delighted to see that Gary Lightbody has surrendered to his DNA and stopped shaving.

There is nothing more attractive than a man with hair on his face — the beard implies a wild, fiery passion, and a rebellious independent spirit which is happy to defy the clean-shaven mainstream.

Irishmen do beards better than any race. Whether they’re the luscious bushes of George Bernard Shaw and Richard Harris, the untamed hedges of George Best, Daniel Day Lewis and Roy Keane or the craggy shadows of Colin Farrell and Jimmy Nesbitt, the propensity to serious bearding makes Irishmen extra-sexy. The only request I made regarding my husband’s appearance on our wedding day was that he didn’t shave the night before.

I didn’t want that unnatural clean-cut look in our wedding photos.

Gary’s beard gives Snow Patrol a new gravitasthat pre-pubescent indie-boy look was too lightweight for a man who writes such haunted, brooding songs. Keep it hairy Gary!

 I can't belive they put a whole article about his beard in the news paper!

But the woman is right. :nice: (See, Elena?!)

Nice joke about his name as well. ;)

Found two Up To Now commercials and I really start to wonder why the Dutch always get these great commercials and we don't. They had a beautiful one for A Hundred Million Suns as well!

Snow Patrol Play Acoustic Gig in London Pub Basement

Posted on Nov 5th 2009 8:47AM by Stephen Dowling

Snow Patrol played an acoustic gig in the basement of their local pub in London on Wednesday night (Nov. 4). Frontman Gary Lightbody and guitarist Nathan Connolly swapped stadiums for the cosy cellar of the King's Head in Crouch End, north London, to run through some of the tracks from their forthcoming best-of 'Up to Now," which is out on Monday (Nov. 9).

"Our record company wanted to call it 'Greatest Hits' [but one of our songs] went in at Number 89," Lightbody joked, the NME reported. "We suggested 'Best Of', which is pushing it. We're going to play our three best songs and then we're going to scrape the barrel!" The band started with a rendition of 'Crack The Shutters.'

Lightbody declared himself the "king of false starts" after stumbling over several of the songs. He added: "That was rubbish, forget everything, I hope everyone is drinking. It's better with a drink inside you!"

The duo were then joined by former Snow Patrol member Iain Archer on slide guitar and pianist/backing vocalist Miriam Kaufmann and played songs including 'Set the Fire To The Third Bar' and Reindeer Section's 'You Are My Joy.'

They also played a new song, 'Give Me Strength," which Lightbody dedicated to the band. "This song is about the guys in the band. Ten of our 15 years were shit. They were fun, but we didn't sell any records, so this is me saying thank you. Soppy isn't it?"

In case anyone is interested in Gary's side projects (like I am :D), there's some 'old' news on the upcoming album of Tired Pony:

Heading to Portland, Oregon in January to make a record. Tired Pony is a new band pulled together by Gary Lightbody and includes Miriam, Jacknife Lee, Richard Coburn (of Belle and Sebastian), myself... and another couple of people you may have heard of...

Its set to be a country-tinged piece of work. We head to the Pacific Northwest first week of Jan and get to work.

http://www.iainarcher.co.uk/modules/news/article.php?storyid=87

And back in the states Gary even played a new song he might records with the other band in January.

Without the talking

I think it's so noticable that he tries to do something different with Tired Pony. I mean, some lines of the lyrics of that new song really don't sound so much like Snow Patrol. Not sure if they even sound like Gary. It's a typical Lightbody song anyway, but ... well, maybe one gets me point. :D Don't want to bother you with my analytical stuff - Elena needs to listen to that all the time, she's used to it.

Was that enough 'Snow Patrol news' for today? :D

^rub it in, Kite! :P

@Bianca- thanks for the treasure trove of stuff!! I loved the article on his beard. :P

and I quite like the Tired Pony song. I could definitely see what he was saying about the lyrics not all being there just yet, but I like the sound of it.

and I can't believe there are commericals for Up to Now! Even when SP was playing IN MY TOWN, there was not so much as a mention of it on the radio. :(

I will hopefully get some decent pictures from the 2nd row :)

Unless security is pretty tough, but if you don't use flash it's easier to sneak pictures :)

2nd row... awesome! is it seated?

 nevermind. that was a DUMB question!

Hopefully I won't have a tall person sitting in front of me.

 I can't belive they put a whole article about his beard in the news paper!

But the woman is right. :nice: (See, Elena?!)

Nice joke about his name as well. ;)

*lol* evidently the people of Belfast love his beard? :laugh3:

tho the writer does make a valid point...the Irishmen seem to be able to pull of a beard rather well. or at least, she gave some pretty good examples. :P

2 weeks til Bristol :D

yessssss!!!!!!!!!!! SQUEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw, have you received your ticket yet? mine still hasn't showed up in the mail & i get the feeling i'm gonna end up getting my order of Up To Now in the mail before the ticket at this rate.

I will hopefully get some decent pictures from the 2nd row :)

Unless security is pretty tough, but if you don't use flash it's easier to sneak pictures :)

oh dear! does Colston Hall have a camera restriction? :\ cos i was fully intending to bring my trusty P&S camera...even if i'm seated dead centre of the hall.

Hopefully I won't have a tall person sitting in front of me.

seated at 2nd row, i'd think you would still be able to see the band fine...Gary himself is a good 6ft+. ;)
