  • Finally a new album from the band! Haven't heard the full album yet, just the 3 pre-released songs and they're great.

I ordered them through Trinity Street Direct.

UNFORTUNATELY...

I have just resigned myself to the fact that the tickets and the €100-odd I spent on them have gone. Calling in favours like crazy. I so do not want to miss this.

Panic central here.

Any luck in getting tickets or a refund?

ok... WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO ANNOUNCE THE US LEG OF THEIR TOUR FOR GOD'S SAKE..:cry:

They actually arrived the Tuesday before the gig.

And now for a review. Despereaux has quite a tale to tell.

see what I did there?

I arrived at about 6:40pm with a couple of friends and a HMV bag in tow. Queued for about fifteen minutes, and soon after we were inside. Delighted that the setup was mostly standing, we made for the merch stall first, as you do. I'm right fucked off with the O2 staff by now, who are telling me they don't have a cloakroom where I can put my bag.

Iain Archer comes on at around 7.40pm. Good set, although I wasn't impressed enough to want to buy the new album. As his set finishes (the last song the band played was epic), I decide that desperate times call for desperate measures, and leave by bag in the concierge area. Check back a few minutes later, and it's gone. I ask what happened, explaining my situation, and I'm told the cleaners probably have it, which is a relief for me, as I was worried it had been stolen. I tell the staff member to keep an eye out for it, as nothing's been handed in yet. Sprint back to where I was standing just in time to see White Lies come on. They open with their new single, Farewell To The Fairground. I had been looking forward to hearing that live, and it didn't disappoint. The extended ending to Fifty On Our Foreheads was awesome, and Death was just plain epic, pogoing action all around. They blew me away, and should announce a headline gig here soon, I'd love to see them again.

About five minutes before Snow Patrol come on. my friend asks me, "Would they hurry up and get on already?" It's his first proper gig. I tell him that it always happens when you least expect it. Sure enough, it did. The lights went down, and the place fucking erupted.

I yelled for Disaster Button a few times during the night, but to no avail... and then they only went and played it at night 2!!

Hands Open was amazing, I had been looking forward to hearing it live for so long, and it finally happened last night.

The Golden Floor is one of my favourite new songs, and it worked really well live. Good ending too.

Run was just out of this world, the acoustic arrangement adding to the song's poignancy, and the singalong was like nothing else I'd heard. Great crowd participation. And speaking of which, the whole call-and-response thing going on during Shut Your Eyes was brilliant. That song was made to be played live.

Chasing Cars was lovely. I can't think of a word that describes it better. It's brilliant live.

Take Back The City and Crack The Shutters, well, both singles, one faring much better than the other in the charts. I fail to see how CTS did so badly, it got such a good reaction! And City was awesome, as expected.

Open Your Eyes closed the main set in the best way possible. There were a few drummers on stage, that was nice.

I turn to my other friend. "I think I know what's coming next."

A screen unravels itself, and a film begins to play.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you... The Lightning Strike."

Oh my fucking God. That was seriously the best thing I have ever seen. Sixteen minutes of absolute bliss. When it drew to a close, I stood there, mouth open in astonishment. You would have had to have been there.

You're All I Have brought the curtain down on what was a rollercoaster ride of a night. An instrumental Daybreak began to play over the PA as we began to shuffle out. I checked the lost & found, and my bag was there. Everything worked out fine in the end.

Exhausted (I almost collapsed during The Lightning Strike) and ecstatic. That was me at the end of the night. I'd do it all again in a flash. SP's live show has improved so much since the Eyes Open tour. So much better than the 06 Dublin gigs, in my opinion.

Iain Archer, White Lies, and most of all Snow Patrol, thanks for a wonderful evening.

:wink3::wink3:.

I saw a video of how the lighting strike is played live IT'S TOTALLY AMAZING, the paper suns and stars my god it looks I don't know the word. It really is epic.

That setlist you posted despereaux varies right??? cause PJTTPFMH and Disaster button are also played. They should replace The Golden Floor cause that's the only song I don't love hahah, all the others I love them well The sunlight through the flags is not so good for me either but with the visuals and being between WITSE and Daybreak it's just ok hahaha I REALLY WANT THEM TO COME TO MEXICO

That setlist you posted despereaux varies right???

It does indeed, and will do so for the whole tour. I hope some surprises are thrown in there, as in some stuff from the first two albums.

Photos has only been played once so far, which I don't get, as it can't be all that hard to pull off live. Disaster Button should really become a fixture in the setlist for this tour, it's the perfect live song, to be honest.

  • 2 weeks later...

That is absolutely amazing. And it must be great too that you are one of the lucky ones that have gary inches from you when he comes down to play run.

^ actually we were up in the balcony! you can see more clearly on this...

there were security guards up on the balcony and they said to us that Gary was going to come up and sing near us....but he didn't. I think it was because of his leg injury! :(

It's all lies, he didn't come up because he was told that you were up there ;)

:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:
