  • Finally a new album from the band! Haven't heard the full album yet, just the 3 pre-released songs and they're great.

On my first listen ever to Songs For Polar Bears- I am only 1/2 way through. Im kinda shocked this is the same Snow Patrol... Had I heard this in the record store Id never have known who it was. I mean Get Balsamic Vinegar is like The Beastie Boys meets Beck meets Punk. I am LOVING Mahogany right now. This is more what I would consider Snow Patrol but it still doesnt seem like them. I am really enjoying this first listen though and I now see a little bit, anyway, why fans compare newer work to this album. So far, its much more varried and in some strange way maybe a little more sophisticated.

new album is great. a few really superb songs. i wasnt sure after hearing take back the city, but now that ive heard the whole album im really pleased. crack the shutters, the planets bend between us and a few others are my favorites. engines uses a lot of guitar from a eyes open album song.

Got my tickets. :)

Im so jealous. They dont have any concerts outside UK and Ireland. I hope they'll do a proper European tour in 2009.

Didn't you know they used to be punk?

nope. I had no idea until now. I really enjoyed my first listen. Might play it again before the day is done

Yeah, old SP is really incredible. If you like Mahogany then you definitely should check out the Reindeer Section that Dave also suggested. Gary Lightbody really has a gift with his voice and songwriting. The lyrics in songs like "Cold Water", "Your Sweet Voice", and " If Everything Fell Quiet" are astoundingly beautiful.

Listened to previews on Amazon.com of Reindeer Section! Downloaded right away. Thanks to you and Dave both for the tip.

A Hundred Million Suns

Artist: SNOW PATROL

Genre: Rock

(Universal)

Reviewer: MICHAEL CHEANG

THOSE familiar with Snow Patrol’s last two albums (2003’s Final Straw and 2006’s Eyes Open) as well as frontman Gary Lightbody’s other work (including the “super-group” The Reindeer Section) will find that this new effort is more of the same.

In fact, this album might as well be a direct sequel to Eyes Open, as many of the songs sound so similar that you could play the albums back to back and still think it is one whole album. Heck, several times I even expected him to go: “Tell me, that you’ll open your eyes.”

That’s not to say that this album is no good. There are a few numbers that stand out here, most notably the opening track If There’s a Rocket Tie Me to It (this album’s Hands Open), Crack the Shutters (this album’s Chasing Cars), and The Planets Bend Between Us (this album’s ... oh, you get the idea).

And then there’s the little matter of a whopping 16-minute-long gorgeous, soaring three-part epic The Lightning Strike at the end; that, for me, is the only track that sets this apart from Eyes Open. It’s a decent effort overall, but you should only rush out and get it if you like your bands to sound the same all the time.

  • 2 weeks later...

Another one here who's fallen in love with A Hundred Million Suns, esp If There's a Rocket Tie Me To It and What If This Storm Ends? from The Lightning Strike :nice:

yea i really love the new album. i looove how 'if theres a rocket...' opens the album.

I'm not going to lie, I'm in love with album. Anyone know about their touring schedule?

wonder this very thing myself.. I am on their mailing list but haven't seen anything yet.

Snow Patrol! Oh Yeah!

Some artists send chills down my spine the first time I hear them and they do it. I am not familiar with the cd (I actually buy it all!) but that big single they had was just so powrful and so human.

I'm a ballad freak myself, tell me a story about life and love and this band does it. I read a bit about the lead singer / composer and apparently he's just like the rest of us. Drug problems etc.

You know what they say eh? No pain, no gain.

Someone should start a thread about "if you like Coldlay then you will like...". there is so much good music out there and I really don't know shit. Even though I am a bit older than your average fan I love so many contemporary artists. Talent has no age hang-ups. Talent is nothing more than the touch of God in human form. Think about, everything in existence came from... no where? As we are "created" by our parents, so does God "create "us".

And like Chris Martin says, "everything gets torn apart, and that's the hardest part". But, and this is the best part, every hurt and every pain can be expressed in music, and every emotion experienced. So yeah, I really like Snow Patrol.

ps. if I had more time for this I would be here more but I play so much music (guitar and keyboards) I just don't have the time. I need a thirty-six hour day and another lifetime to do everything I want to in this life. And top of my list is more live music!

I bet im gunna love their first two albums more than any of their others.

Since Final Straw was a little bit brilliant..

I haven't got an e-mail yet either. I saw them for the first time about 2 years ago in March. Maybe around that time again?

I hope they're touring. They have to, with that album!

I like the song take bck the city

oh they will... not to worry we somehow have to find some patience until then..;)

This album gets more amazing with every listen.

Can I just say that Snow Patrol's b-sides are awesome. I had a big b-side-fest last night, and I was like, "Wait a second, how did I not pick up on some of these before?"

Like "I Am An Astronaut" for instance - tune.

Here's some infos about the second single from A Hundred Million Suns:

The second single to be taken from the Patrol’s new album ‘A Hundred Million Suns,’ will be the stunning ‘Crack the Shutters’. This song quickly turned into a fan favourite during the Take Back the Cities tour and will be released in the UK on 15th December.

The CD single will be backed by an exclusive new track ‘Cubicles’, with the limited edition 7” Vinyl featuring the cover of Elbow’s ‘One Day Like This’ recorded on Jo Whiley’s Live Lounge On Tour.

Note that the CD single will be availabe everywhere, but the 7”, limited to 500 copies, will only be available at HMV.

Yay, new song! :)

On the CD, does the last track come split up or as one long track?

one 16-minute long track.
