  1. Chris never lost his appalling taste in footwear.
  2. While what guy says regarding life is true the Coldplay analogy is moronic. This guy encaptulates perfectly the "Newplay" archetype. The "You're not a true fan" line of argument always falls flat in my opinion. I don't see the logic behind it. I've followed Coldplay for years, My CD cases are smashed and broken to bits from wear, I've been a full time apologetic for them in my local music scene, so much so I've been affectionely labelled the "Coldplay guy" I AM A FAN! :veryangry2:  It's easy for you to write me off as a "non-fan" just because my opinion of the bands current output is disparaging. I'd say it's the job of a fan to criticise the bad and praise the good. Blind loyalty is stupidity in my opinion. His analogy about his daughter is unfair in my opinion, we're talking about music at the end of the day, not the commitment you make to your children. I prefer the analogy of a sports team. You support the team through thick and thin but you face reality when they're not doing too well and you don't praise every bad game they play. Not to mention I'm still here, posting on a Coldplay fansite. I'm still supporting them. It's also been stated numerous times that it's not change that Oldplayers don't like, it's more the nature of the change. If the last three albums still had the artistic ambition and depth of the first three albums I wouldn't be complaining. I wouldn't even mind pop, It's the corporate aspect that label them "sell-outs" . It's the loss of integrity I lament. What the guy forgets to mention is that not all change is good change. If my hypothetical daughter was to change in a negative way I certainly wouldn't condone it, but it wouldn't make me love her any less. Sometimes there's no point in change for the sake of change.
  3. The early stuff is just so so good... This is never more apparent in Coldplay's live shows nowadays. The duality is laughable. Vapid, disingenuos pop drivel next to sublime classics such as Clocks, Yellow, Fix You etc.
  4. Chris looking not very impressed! I'm not the biggest fan of Coldplay's latest output either but that's taking it a bit far! Idiot.
  5. Because I bought T in the Park tickets instead :laugh4:
  6. Perhaps because the quality of Coldplay isn't what it used to be? Just something to consider.
  7. The guy in the Arctic Monkeys t shirt knows what he's talking about: ]Mobile Link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1IT9L1tKHf0 URL]
  8. The irony bypass is strong with this one.
  9. I agree in sentiment, although the way you expressed your opinion. (the way the vast majority of music fans feel about Coldplay at the moment) isn't "diplomatic" enough for the Coldplay fanatics around these parts. I suggest you join us in the Oldplaying thread where you'll find like minded people.
  10. Which amuses me endlessly. The new fans are exactly the type of people who would have mocked you for liking Coldplay 10 years ago. Coldplay have done a complete 360 and for what???
  11. One thing I really don't see is how the current era is any different from the MX era. Bar some superficial and aesthetic differences such as swapping out the colours and being influenced by eastern religion rather than graffiti. Sub in Beyonce for Rihanna, change your sugary synths, swap out the patches on your t shirt and away you go! Really casts some doubt on the "different album each time" mantra. As a jaded fan of the early work it immensely amuses and distresses me that they were much more profound and mature at my age than they are approaching 40. I fear one day I will morph into a big child with purple shoes and be transfixed on all the pretty lights/colours. I feel embarrassed for them and feel embarrassed to call myself a Coldplay fan. After Viva they should have taken a long break and come back with something bolder and stronger. I think at this stage they're artistically burnt out.
  12. Bit of a random Coldplay thought: I hate when discussing music with someone and they ask "Who's your favourite band?" As an Oldplayer this puts you in a precarious position. Generally you have two options, either you lie and say someone like Travis or Oasis or you say "Coldplay" and when you get that "I'm not sure you're well" look from the person you have to add in an awkward "but only the first three albums" stipulation every time.
  13. If only Coldplay could of done the Super bowl during the X&Y era
  14. They are 4 ordinary lads from Britain who stumbled into fame and as a result have gotten to big for their own good.
  15. According to my calculations, Coldplay - Pop = Coldplay.
  16. As much as I love Our Lady that doesn't necessarily mean I want direct references to her in Coldplay songs/Music videos. In my old age I've come to interpret more of Chris's songs in a religious connotation that I didn't necessarily interpret when I was a teenager. However, a lot of these religious references are very subtle and personal. There are a number of older songs from A Rush that I've come to associate with the Blessed Mother but these are completely personal to me and I neither expect or want others to interpret these songs in that way. The way the newer material is so blatant and direct with overloading you with religious meaning comes off as very gaudy and insincere in my opinion.
  17. I hate the song and the video but not for the claim of cultural approbation. The British Empire committed many atrocities and oppressed Ireland for 800 years, yet if Coldplay made a music video here inspired by Irish music and culture I would be overjoyed. I don't think people would bat an eyelid. It's the fact it is India. Very silly in my opinion. The video and song should be criticized on it's lack of artistic merit.
  18. I have an unused code if you want it. I got it with the Amazon pre-order though so I think it's only for the UK gigs?
  19. Coldplay have lost all credibility in my eyes. I will continue to cherish the early work but this new Coldplay is not the Coldplay I grew up with. The new material is an insult to albums of such calibre as AROBTTH and X&Y.
