Heard Fix You on the radio in work today. I got a few strange looks from co-workers when I started playing air guitar on Jonny's solo.

But the overproduction drowns out Jonny's (horribly compressed) guitar. It's very hard to enjoy something which is barely audible over unnecessary and gratuitous synth sounds.

You don't write a song like HFTW and not care about chart positions. Are people listening to the same album as I am? If you think AHFOD isn't completely engineered to be a chart topper you are clearly delusional.

Coldplay are on the same wave lenght as U2. They're doing the pop thing now but no doubt in a few albums time they'll "revisit" their original sound. It'll be a diluted version but still a million times better than anything they've done since Viva (See U2's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb for comparison)
