2015 Albums Worth Listening To
Maybe if we open a new thread someone will jump in

AHFOD - YOUR reviews
I try to share my opinion A Head Full Of Dreams - It seems like a U2 cover feat. Cut Copy. It clearly reminds of ETIAW, but for me it's slightly better, even if Chris forgot to write lyrics for the second half. 7/10 Birds - A good episode. It feels very indie pop and the fact that vocals remind of Win Butler makes think of Arcade Fire even for the music. The more I listen to it the more I discover new details, starting from the vaguely dreamy guitars. Please Jonny, delay e reverb as much as you can. The abrupt ending is quite unsettling. 7,5/10 Hymn For The Weekend - An awful let down. Melodically is too similar to "Give Me A Reason" by Nate Ruess & Pink, pathetic lyrics, terrible bridge & chorus. This could easily be a single by Destiny's Child & Flo Rida with Alexandra Stan. 4/10 Everglow - Ok, it's simple, classic 4 chords, Chris is almost without voice, but it's the ONLY song of the album that's Coldplay. It doesn't take me emotionally, but I can say that I like it. Even without ambitions and ideas, the boys make good songs when they don't forget their identity. 8,5/10 Adventure Of A Lifetime - Daft Punk, Pharrell & Bruno Mars, woohoo. A nightmare. 5/10 Fun (feat. Tove Lo) - A good experiment for me. the combination of the two voices is surprisingly good. The only flaw is that it seems an Imagine Dragons song. 7.5/10 Kaleidoscope - A spot for Obama. 2/10 Army Of One - electropop cover of "Every Breaking Wave". 6/10 X Marks The Spot - Lowest point of their career by a mile. 0/10 Amazing Day: a classic ballad ruined by Stargate pompous production. 6/10 Colour Spectrum: Nothing with nothing feat. nothing. N.V. Up&Up: This could be a great song, but Stargate completely ruined it again. First 6+ mins song of their career, two great guitar solos , a Champagne Supernova-alike structure, but this claustrophobic overproduction mess it all. The ending is criminal. 6,5/10 It lacks of cohesion, transitions are not very good, songs are what they are. My final vote is 5/10. Now they should go on hiatus for at least 5 years, reset their minds and then go autoproducing. Maybe we could achieve a final good album in this way. But it will never happen

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
It's very difficult because we're saying very different things. The thing I think the most of us agree with is that production is very bad

Italia
VOTO: 7 Birds - Altro episodio secondo me piuttosto riuscito. Ti prego Jonny, d'ora in poi delay e reverb a manetta mi raccomando. Il finale interrotto così spiazza un po'. VOTO 7,5 Hymn For The Weekend - Come ha detto bene Kidd Is Alive, una caduta di stile clamorosa. VOTO 8,5 Adventure Of A Lifetime - Ne abbiamo ampiamente discusso. VOTO: S.V. Or Death And All His Friends. Voto finale: 5

Hymn for the Weekend
The piano melody is "Just Give Me A Reason" by Nate Ruess faet. Pink ... The chorus seems like an Alexandra Stan song. To make it simple: IT IS F* TERRIBLE AS EXPECTED
-
A Head Full Of Dreams (Title track)
This song seems like U2 feat. Cut Copy

Which instruments do you play?
I can play guitar and keyboards (not at a high level though), but I'm mainly a singer

Everglow
I managed to find the album version of the song. I can say that I like it, but I was noticing its position between Hymn For The Weekend and Adventure Of A Lifetime... It seems like they put it there to try to save people from throwing the album through the window

Yes, it absolutely was. But original doesn't mean that you're not influenced by anything. Everybody take inspiration by someone else, to be original you have to find that balance between your specific style and your influences, in order to sound fresh and being immediately recognisable. When I hear Violet Hill or Lovers In Japan I can say "this is Coldplay" from the first notes, even if I know that Arcade Fire influenced them (and Chris at the time admitted that by saying that AF are the best band in the world, and I agree with this opinion). When I listen for example to "Adventure Of A Lifetime" I think of Bruno Mars feat. Daft Punk, not Coldplay, this is what I'm trying to say.

Coldplayers, Oldplayers, Newplayers 'n all that factious stuff
Explanations like this shouldn't even be needed in a community like this, but I'm glad that Thalia spent her time to do that. Freedom isn't always peaceful, but everybody have to respect what the other ones are saying. In the end we are all here for the same main reason: we love this 4 (5 if you count Phil) guys and they did for us (in a recent past or still today depending on what you think of their recent outputs), so please be kind and respectful and enjoy your permanence in here. I'm still a new entry as a user, but I really enjoy to talk to people from other countries about music, that it's one of the thing I like most about life (and, I'm sure, everybody round here agree with me), I had the opportunity to discover great things and I hope that someone discovered something interesting in what I posted here. Happiness is real only when shared. Now I go back talking peacefully with...

Everglow
IMHO Hello is an average songs, and so the whole new album. I find it very repetitive and bland, except for "I Miss You" and "Remedy" tht are good but not that great. "21" was waaaay better and more versatile in terms of rhythm and style (think of "Rumour Has It" and "Rolling In The Deep" for example). I'm not saying it to defend CP (in fact I'm one of the most critic users of CPing), I really think it. Maybe the production is very clean, but the songs are not only production, they're also creativity and 25 hasn't got it that much.

To explain it better, look how VLVODAHHF was received when it was released and the differences with MX. Both of them have been a great departure from their previous work, but the first was acclaimed, the second was criticised. Why? If it was like you said before, Oldplayer should have hated them both, but instead they love VLV. The answer is that VLV is original, inspired and inspiring, versatile but you can recognise the true soul of CP in their songs. They reinvented themselves staying coherent with the people they are. And I just can't find all these things in their following albums, except for a couple of songs here and there, that's the fact.

What people don't usually understand about Oldplayers is that we don't want them to sound just like they sounded before, we want only them to be TRUE TO THEIRSELVES. Originality is that balance between being recognisable, reinventing your sound and try something different from what the 99% of the world does.

Everglow
Well, when I was a young boy (I tried to listen ) almost every song CP was putting out for me was the best song ever. Growing up, I realized how many great songs there are in contemporary music history and I revisited my opinions. I think that someone is experiencing something similar at the moment
