  1. i have the luxury of being able to listen to music all day at work on my headphones. i usually choose music that's not gonna intefer too much, ambient techno and experimental electronica being the usual choice. I got hold of Agaetis Byrjun one day just coz i liked the name of the band and the album and didn't do any work for the entire duration of the album. It absolutely blew me away. It's a truly georgeous album. Absolutely stunning. I've not seem 'em live yet but i'm gonna when they play in the UK next coz they just blow me away on CD and i can't imagine where they'd take me at a gig.

Hi hayley ! sounds like he's inherited his father's writing ability then :) my fave loudon album that i used to listen to all the time (yet still can't remember the title !) was the one he wrote after his divorce. some really sad lyrics but really sharp and witty too. that's what "i eat out" is about - having to deal with feeding himself. I'll see if i can find any rufus tonight. cheers !

  4. it's one of my faves on the album at present. it starts off a bit schmaltzy but as soon as the piano starts plinking in slightly followed by the acoustic strumming it really starts to pick up. when the leccy comes in you just know it's gonna kick in big. the ride gets stronger and stronger and then when it kicks in it's really BIG. The layered vocals are probably best used on this song. A really really uplifting song, very anthemic and likely to be big a permanent live favourite.

  7. am really glad i found this thread coz i used to listen to his dad's stuff quite a lot (Loudon Wainwright III, but you probably all know that). "I Eat Out" is one of the best songs lyrically i've ever heard - "I can cook a little but it's not a lot to shout about, it's kinda mean cuisine, so i eat out". Am definitely gonna check out some of Rufus' work now. thanks all !!

  10. I'm a massive fan of the floyd too. Well, everything they did when Roger Waters was in the band anyway. Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell are total crap IMHO - and has there ever been a more aptly titled album than A Momentary Lapse of Reason lol. I love ALL of there other albums and can't really pick a list of faves coz i'd just end up listing them all !! I do have a soft spot for there psychedlic albums a bit more often than Dark Side onwards - Atom Heart Mother, Ummagumma and the soundtrack from More probably get spun more than the others.
  11. i love all of the songs on X&Y now - A Message was one of the first that i really liked. I think it's probably the most U2-like one. Would've fitted on All That You Can't Leave Behind a treat.

  15. Approx 500 originals, about 800 on hard disk and about three hundred vinyl LPs and 12"s :) i like music :)
  16. We did multi-track the recordings (pro tools). We laid the drum tracks down first, but without a metronome, just with everyone else playing along. I did a few other tracks for another band a few weeks later and used a metronome for them and found it much easier, so next time Coldplace record, i'm gonna use a metronome. We'd only been together about four months or so when we did the demos and we've been together another full year now and so we're really wanting to record some more tracks coz we know we can do far better than the recordings we've done so far. Not that we're unhappy with the three tracks we've already done - we just know we can do better. I know that I, personally, could list a handful of inaccuracies with my drum tracks (crashes missing at the end of clocks, superfluous crashes in the scientist etc). Anyway, thanks to everyone for the positive comments about our demos - it's very pleasing :)

  22. The obvious choices are GPASUYF, Politik, Scientist, Clocks, In My Place - the last coz of how massive they all were as singles. Bet they get bored of playing them on occasions though and vary their set a bit. They've played every song from the album live at some point (i think ? anyone know if they've played A Whisper ?). Shows how strong the album is. I bet they'll still rotate through all the songs with maybe Scientist, Clocks and In My Place being pretty much ever present.
  23. <rant> damn right. i'd vote for him. better than michael howard and tony blair. as it stands, voting for the green party is the next best thing to having chris and coldplay in power. All young people who don't want to vote for tory or labour or the liberals or the fucking bnp or are just too fucking lazy to vote should vote for the greens. i'm sure chris martin would want us to. </rant>
  24. every yamaha acoustic i've ever played has been an excellent guitar. admittedly, that's only three, but i'd recommend one. can't say anything about falcon's i'm afraid.
