Heard Sleeping Sun at..
They just released a special edition of X&Y in North America that has all of the X&Y b-sides on it... they were selling it in my local FutureShop on Monday, so maybe someone at that Gap got ahold of that edition and shuffled it into the mix?

Chris Martin Among the Blender's 25 biggest wusses
I wonder how Metalica's fan are taking the news :laugh3: All I have to say for Charlotte Church (who I actually liked once upon a time) is that when Liam Gallagher thinks you're the next Liam Gallagher, you know you've got problems...

The Coldplayer radio is on!
Yeah, it does, though there aren't any direct links to it anymore... It only plays about 5 songs or so, and it's never going to get updated again. edit: here's the link: http://www.coldplay.com/coldplayer/radio.html I found it in this thread: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30321

Don't you just love the British accent?
I'm a total sucker for accents. Especially British and Irish ones. My favorite is Glasgow- to my untrained ear, at least, it sounds like a mix of all the most interesting parts of both Scottish and Irish accents. I love Belfast ones too- I spent some time there, and got so used to them it sounded weird when I went home. The strangest was when some guys from Dublin came up to visit the people I was staying with, and the local girls were laughing like crazy every time the guys said anything. I couldn't understand what on earth was going on. Finally one of the girls explained that the guys were talking in fake Belfast accents and it sounded funny. I honestly couldn't tell the difference! :stunned:

Last person to post in this thread wins
Yeah- it's like those crazy time travel loops in scifi stuff. Self-perpetuating. Or you could just not care... *poof*

Last person to post in this thread wins
Basically no one is ever going to win until either the board shuts down or everyone stops caring... so you wouldn't actually know who wins. How would you announce the winner? You'd have to start a new thread, which would draw attention to this one so people would start posting again. You wouldn't be able to gloat about it... what's the fun? :P

Did you ever fall asleep on your keyboard?
I've never fallen asleep *on* my keyboard, though I've fallen asleep at it many times, working on projects and papers and stuff.

Our Lady Peace
:dozey: Uh... I just gave both songs another listen... the bass lines are totally different. I'm not sure what you heard, though I suppose the rythms of the two lines are similar enough in a couple of spots that you could see a similarity if you could only hear less than half of the notes.... *shrug* Anyway, the official OLP thread is here: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11698

How to get dirt and mud out of a carpet?
Heh... we take off our shoes too.... I can't speak for big drunk house parties, but generally even at big gatherings everyone leaves their shoes in a big pile at the door. It's so instinctive that my american cousins tease me about it when I visit. Actually, the people we stayed with teased us about it when I was in Ireland too, for that matter. I guess my point is, sorry, I'm not much help. Though soap, a scrub brush, lots of towels, and a ton of elbow grease would be the obvious thing. Good luck.

Tour de France
Just out of curiosity, does anyone on here follow the tour? I do somewhat- my dad used to race many years ago, so he's still really into cycling. It's turning out to be a strange year. Lance Armstrong has retired and his biggest rivals including Jan Ulrich have been dropped over a drug scandal, so it's anyone's race, really. Even my favorite rider Stewart O'Grady doesn't have much of a chance at the green jersey after he had an accident a few days ago and fractured a vertebrae- ouch!- although he's still riding.

NOOOOO!!!!
Is this going to be the Brit Awards 2? They're not going anywhere... just look at Chris' expression when he says that- he was just being silly again, and as usual, no one got it.

Sushi?
Alot of my friends like it, but I can't eat it- I'm allergic to fish. :( I don't dare even try the vegetarian sushi for fear it may have come in contact with the fish. I bet you I would like it if I could eat it, though.

ANTS THAT CAN TALK?? (OR SCREAM)
Oh my goodness... some of this stuff is facinating! Sorry, you've awakened my long-dormant inner science nerd. Check this out for some more details on ant noises: http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20000205/bob12.asp There are even some recordings (but no screams, unfortuantly) here: http://home.olemiss.edu/~hickling/

ANTS THAT CAN TALK?? (OR SCREAM)
Looks like it's true- I did some googling, and found this: http://outside.away.com/outside/magazine/1095/10w_wild.html The gist of it is that you're not crazy- they have a few cricket-like noisemaking skills...

crap!!!!
Yeah, here's hoping. Cat bites are actually poisonous to small creatures- they can kill something that's been bitten hours later, but if the vet gave you antibiotics, it should take care of that. Good luck, fish!

ANTS THAT CAN TALK?? (OR SCREAM)
My first reaction is that you're crazy. But then I remembered a couple of times when I thought I heard that too and just thought I was crazy. I really don't know... :stunned:

crap!!!!
What is it with cats and fighter fish anyway? When I was in school one of the teachers had one as a class pet. He took it home over Christmas break and his landlady's cat ate it. I liked that fish. If it was me, I would tell the truth about what happened and aplologise, offering to replace the fish. The friend might be really upset, but at least the fact that you took it to the vet will prove something. Not many people would do that for a fish! But that's me.

Akward Name?
I used to know a girl named Seasons. She hated it- ended up going by her middle name Hope.

Eclipse
I think I saw the same one you did, Reilly. Though it wasn't completly total here- there was a tiny little silver of sun still showing at the height. I was in 6th grade and the teacher decided to turn it into a whole science project. We made pinhole projectors and went out into the parkinglot to watch it with them. They never stopped lecturing us the entire time not to look up at the sun or we could hurt our eyes. I was walking home from school right when it was at the darkest. It was like dusk- just before the sun sets. It got chilly and a wind came up. All the birds were making a racket because they were confused and getting ready to go to bed. I glanced up at the sun a couple of times in spite of the warnings- it was a weird sight. I wasn't dumb enough to really look at it, though. I heard on the news the next day that there had been one or two dimwits who had stared at it, and burned their retinas completly. Stupid people- gotta love them. Weird day, for sure. :sunny:

Perfectionist?
I've been told that digital animators have a saying: "work is never finished, only abandoned" I think it sums me up pretty well. I know afew hardcore perfectionists and they are scary- nothing from them or anyone else is good enough for them, and even when something they did was magnificent, they can't take compliments, they can only complain that it was a disaster because of some little thing no one noticed. THAT certainly isn't me. But like the saying, I do have a perfectionist streak. Whenever I'm doing anything remotly creative or detail oriented, I have to do it perfectly. Every little brushstroke, every little turn of phrase. If I re-read something I wrote ten times, I will find ten better ways to write it. But when I run out of time or get frustrated, I can live with what has come to be. I can only hope I've gotten it to a degree of ok-ness somewhere in the process of trying to make it perfect. Add in being a world-class procrastinator, and you have a lifetime full of brilliant begginings with non-existant endings.

Radiohead
Thanks for that! :) And for all the other stuff you've been posting- I probably don't say thanks nearly often enough.

Uk Peeps: Lost Series 2 start 2/5/06 10pm C4!!!
Well, actually... Oh crap- all the good quotes and explinations are spoilers. (I've gotta stop reading this thread. :freak:) Anyway, the SPOILER FREE part everyone already knows from the first season is, it wasn't an ordinary crash- they shouldn't even have lived (some think they haven't), and it isn't an ordinary island either- I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't even on the same planet. Not to mention that they were thousands of miles off course with the radio out- satelites have to know where to look before they can find them. (And satelites were mentioned at least once.) With 'what if' type plots, you just have to go on faith that the writers have already worked those kinds of plot-holes out- they say they have. They're just teasing us with the answers. Some will come soon, others do exist but won't be wrenched out of Damon Lindeloff's mad bespectacled noggin for another few glorious, frustrating years. Please don't go saying it's crap. I totally understand that it isn't some people's thing, but personally I think it's the best show since the X-files at their height! :smug: (And for those going on the American boards- DON'T!!! SOOO DON'T You won't understand anyway and it's soooo not worth it. Resist the temptation!!)

Group wants Americans to adopt phonetic spelling!
That point just reminded me of something. the difference between languages like German and Spanish, and English is that it's not so much the spelling that's messed up as the phonetics themselves in modern English. Phonetic spelling will never trully catch on because of something called the "Great Vowel Shift". English has been messed up ever since. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Vowel_Shift

Zidane wins the Golden Ball
I'm still a relative noob at following big soccer matches, so I wasn't exactly about to closely follow all of the games. France was one of the teams I didn't care about up to the semifinal. And still, if there was one player who's name you couldn't escape, it was 'Zizou'. Zidane is rallying the troops. Zidane led France against Brazil. Zidane is a god-like hero. On and on and on. It was probably the only name from a team I wasn't following that stuck in my head. Sorry, but for the Italian guy being mentioned, I can't even remember who he is. Zidane was unescapable. One moment of complete mindlessness, and the world was reminded that even god-like heros are still mere humans, subject to appauling degrees of frailty. A lesson for us all, perhaps... Now maybe some of the people who voted would like to take their ballots back, and maybe the system will change in the future, but I do think that with the exception of those mere seconds, Zidane was the man of the tournament, and deserved the award, however embarrasing it may be.
