  1. Sir Terry Wogan is stepping down as commentator on the Eurovision Song Contest after three decades. Fellow Irishman Graham Norton will take over for the 2009 contest, which will be hosted in Moscow. Veteran presenter Wogan, 70, cast doubt on whether he would be involved in covering the event again following this year's contest. He said it was "no longer a music contest" and that prospects for western European participants were "poor". The show has suffered from accusations of bloc voting, which was blamed by some for leaving Britain's 2008 contestant, Andy Abraham, with only 14 points. Sir Terry Wogan criticising bloc voting - archive interview from May 2008 Wogan said he would be "sad to leave it all behind". He said: "I've had 35 wonderful years commentating on the Eurovision for radio and television. "From my first, in a small musichall in Dublin, to my last, in the huge arena in Belgrade, it has been nothing but laughter and fun. "The silly songs, the spectacle, the grandiose foolishness of it all. "Let's hope that between (Norton) and the musical brilliance of Lloyd Webber, Royaume Uni will gather its proper share of 'Douze Points' and bring the Grand Prix home to where it belongs." Norton described it as "an amazing job and a huge honour". He said: "Sir Terry is nothing less than legend and is an impossible act to follow, but somebody must and I just couldn't say no. "I can't wait to get to Moscow. With a combination of cheap vodka and a language barrier what could possibly go wrong?" Jay Hunt, Controller of BBC One, thanked Sir Terry for his work on the programmes. "Terry has enhanced viewers' enjoyment of Eurovision for many years," she said. "I am delighted that Graham Norton will now be bringing his wit to bear on this iconic music event." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7766310.stm
  2. Wow I really like it - a lot better than I thought it'd be after reading a lot of comments on here! If this is the direction they take for Album 5 then that'll be pretty cool.
  3. I saw Richard Ashcroft at LCCC a couple of years ago and we had a great time. It was a bit close getting the metro (full of singing England fans, eek!) to the station for the Liverpool train but we made it in time. Can't wait for September!
  4. Ha excellent news. I'm on the Keane forum too :P I think I know who I'll be sticking up for though ;)
  5. Life is shit then you die. That's my philosophy when I'm in a bad mood (quite a lot!)... but my other philosophy is that life's too short to get stressed out over small things that don't matter, like your cats doing a poo in the kitchen or dropping a cup or spilling milk, that kind of thing.
  6. Yay! That was easier than I expected. My friend's been saying he'll come and see Coldplay with me for aaaages but he's always been away whenever they've toured, so finally he can come.
  7. Is one allowed to use images of album covers from Amazon and other webpage images on Blog Spot or are there copyright issues?
  8. Also how would shops go about selling a free CD? Just put them on a rack and let people help themselves?
  9. The melody! Beautiful song, makes me smile when I listen to it.
  10. I think it's a brave move to release another CD in the current download/filesharing climate. I know it's Coldplay and it'll probably do quite well, but it's not been hyped nearly as much as Viva La Vida was - although it was a good move to announce the stadium gigs on the release date of PM and for Glass Of Water to get a few radio plays, all part of the marketing plan. I'd be interested to see what the sales figures for Prospekt's March are like compared to Viva.
  11. Is the Osaka Sun Mix of LIJ actually different apart from a few extra "Ohhh"s here and there? I know they said it's more like the live version but I can't tell the difference, maybe some different guitar parts from Jonny? No idea. Anyway, LIT ii is one of the best songs they've done. Glass Of Water, I'm not really feeling it. The other new tracks will take a few listens, not as immediate as I found some of the tracks on Viva La Vida, but so far so good.
  12. I didn't mind paying for it. Well worth it in my opinion.
  13. I wonder who the support will be...
  14. I think what you mean is that so many other bands sound like Coldplay.

  18. *abuses Age Six Racer*
  19. Aw I love Jake :P He also plays a policeman with a splendid bushy moustache in The Illusionist. One of my lecturers looks like him too! Helen Mirren - is she a weird celebrity crush?
  20. Google sent me here... http://www.uaf.org.uk/aboutUAF.asp?choice=1
  21. How can the BNP actually be legal - aren't there guidelines in the "How to start a political party" handbook such as you are not allowed to be racist loonatics? Is there any way to campaign against them and get them disbanded?
  22. What is it exactly? I went to the website but the cryptic message confused me!
