  1. I can't drink more than one or two of those Smirnoff malt drinks without getting heartburn. Too sugary for me.
  2. My night was spent drinking shitty beer and watching depressing films. Sadly, I consider this to be a good night. :dozey: Actually the depressing film was The Deer Hunter, which, depressing though it may be, is one of the best I've ever seen. So I can't complain.
  3. If they didn't break up after A Rush of Blood to the Head they're certainly not going to break up after this one.
  4. The new album has a house/electronica sound? What the hell kind of electronic music have you been listening to? If X & Y is what electronic music sounded like I'd have a lot fewer CD's in my collection. A few ambient synths do not an electronic album make. Anyway here are my ratings: Parachutes: ***** A Rush of Blood to the Head: *** X & Y: ***
  5. *sigh* since you begged us :P I listened to the songs on the myspace link and didn't really find it anything to write home about. Competent, at the very least, but I took a break from a David Bowie record to listen to it, so it had a pretty tough act to follow.
  6. Right now I'm chewing on this anthology of Oscar Wilde works I picked up after reading The Picture of Dorian Gray on a recommendation made by my psychologist... I'm turning into a huge Oscar Wilde fan with this stuff (I can't believe I never read any of him before). Currently in the midst of The Importance of Being Earnest ("A trivial comedy for serious people")
  7. HOT DAMN! I'm a fan of Robin Williams. I'm not generally a fan of sequels that come a decade after the first film. But I'm a fan of Robin Williams.
  8. The first time I saw Coldplay, Grandaddy opened up for them. Now THAT was a good show. The second time there was no opening act, and the third time The Music opened, and they're the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.
  9. I voted for D without looking at any of the pictures because the letter D is awesome.
  10. I almost always buy my tickets at the venue, actually (it pays to live right in the middle of the city, I never have too far to travel), but I've never done it for a concert where there was a huge demand before, so I don't know if things work differently for that or not. Whatever, it's a moot point anyway, for me at least.
  11. Ticketmaster outlets are weird anachronisms that I always forget still exist. I remember seeing a couple hundred people lined up at a tiny window at a mall several years ago and being completely confused as to why it was happening. Then I asked what was going on and it was a line to get Bruce Springsteen tickets, and I was even more confused because why would all those people buy Bruce Springsteen tickets from a tiny window at a mall? Then I realized it was a Ticketmaster outlet. That was a dumb and boring story. I would recommend buying online because your odds are just as good (apparently if a lot of people show up at an outlet they do it by lottery instead of first come first serve) and you don't have to go anywhere. On the other hand, I don't know if there are $20 Mystery Fees if you buy tickets in person.
  12. well ain't that a nice l'il novelty. :D
  13. I've given this band enough of my money over the years... But I damn sure can't resist an actual copy of a record.
  14. I have been greatly wronged by Gas_Man, :P
  15. Chris's metaphors (when they're actually metaphors) are so blindingly obvious that they make me slap my forehead in disbelief. "Lights go out and I can’t be saved Tides that I tried to swim against Have bought me down upon my knees Oh I beg, I beg and plead Singing Come out of things unsaid Shoot an apple off my head And a trouble that can’t be named A tiger’s waiting to be tamed" That's just one line after another of pure banality. And "Amsterdam" is one of my favorite Coldplay songs, but I try not to think too much about what he's actually singing: "Come on, my star is fading And I swerve out of control If I, if I’d only waited I’d not be stuck here in this hole Come here my star is fading And I swerve out of control And I swear I waited and waited I’ve got to get out of this hole" It's so generic that it becomes completely meaningless. Rather than think of this as a huge negative thing, however, I prefer to think about how talented a melodist Chris must be to make those songs really moving. :D
  16. Yeah, Radiohead lyrics always make more sense than people think they do, you just actually have to think about them. Most Coldplay lyrics start sounding like the dumbest statements ever if you think about them for too long.
  17. http://www.thegreenrabbit.ca = The Onion for idiots.
  18. Yeah, speaking of which... goooooooooooooo Phantoms! Calder Cup here we come!
  19. I don't know who Black Mountain are but I do know that I used to be in a band called Black Mountain when I was like 14 or 15 or something. We haven't reunited and signed on to open for Coldplay though, as far as I know.
  20. It'll come back eventually, and then both the owners and the players will realize how stupid they are for not getting something done sooner when it occurs to them that the way to make ice hockey more than the United States' 5th most popular sport (behind football, basketball, baseball, and NASCAR, if you can call that a sport) isn't to stop playing for a year and a half. Man, this whole labor thing is still making me mad.
  21. Popularly known as the P-Bass. :P
  22. awwwwww ain't that the cutest
  23. Four Tet - "And Then Patterns"
