X&Y's "A Whisper"
I haven't been bothering to listen to the tacked-on "hidden" track.

Any "store-exclusive" bonus tracks in U.S.?
Tower Records gave me a sticker that says X & Y will be out on June 7. I'll have to mark that on my calendar.

IM SPARTACUS!!!
Spartacus is a pretty good film, as far as those swords-and-sandals epics go. Hardly seems like Stanley Kubrick directed it, but I guess he was still starting out then. My penis is named Charles Willups Featherbeanfellow III.

The Wallflowers!!
Jacob sings better than his daddy (that is to say he can hit a note and stay there without too much trouble), but that's about all he does. But I mean... when your dad is Bob freaking Dylan... what do you expect?

HOMER SIMPSON QUOTES!
"Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try." "Old people don't need companionship. They need to be isolated and studied so it can be determined what nutrients they have that might be extracted for our personal use." Two of my favorites. :cheesy:

Chris Martin voted ''The worst lyricist ever''
HAVE THEY NEVER HEARD DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL?!?!

did a pre-album studio leak like "Talk" ever happe
I actually prefer the early versions of "A Rush of Blood to the Head" (the song, not the album). A lot darker feel than the studio version. It actually sounds way different from the rest of their stuff.

An "Elton John is gay" joke?!?! YOU DEVELISH WIT YOU!!!

Talk (does anybody know the song of Kraftwerk...)
Not just electronic either... I'd say pretty much all of pop music in the 1980's would have been vastly different without the influence of Kraftwerk. Not to mention hip hop (oddly enough... four pasty Germans weren't exactly the most likely to change that genre).

So buying the CD and burning it to ITunes doesn't work?
I think it's funny how they always seem to put copy protection on the albums that they know are going to sell millions of copies anyway.

do you believe?
I believe I've just wasted 30 seconds. Damn that was pretty much the exact same joke Justine made... All right let me work on this one.

There are going to be some PISSED fans, but....
I thought the last album was overproduced... this one is getting into Foo Fighters territory in terms of overproduction and lack of intimacy. Also, you can make intimate songs that still rock hard, they don't have to be soft ballads (see: "Mother" by John Lennon, "Behind Blue Eyes" by the Who, most Built to Spill songs, and a million other examples). Intimacy isn't linked with softness in my mind. And finally: I NEVER begrudge a band the right to evolve, but that doesn't mean I always have to like what they evolve into. Which doesn't necessarily mean I don't like X & Y (although it's far from my favorite Coldplay album so far). I'm just sayin'. If people don't like it, it's not always just because it sounds different.

Talk (does anybody know the song of Kraftwerk...)
I have the album Computer World that Computer Love is on, but it's on vinyl, sooo... I can't really send you an mp3 or anything. :P Anyway, Kraftwerk are/were a great group, so I'm glad for any exposure they get. (although I don't know if I would recommend them to the average Coldplay fan...)

conspiracy theory
Actually I think the fact that one of the most popular bands in the world is releasing a new album sort of generates its own publicity. :P

The assholes at the Radiohead forum don't like X&Y
Yeah, what Ren said! COMMON SENSE! Anyway, Radiohead have a lot of assholes for fans. I'm learning that Coldplay does too.

Who in USA is watching CP on MTV?
Yeah, it wouldn't be MTV if they didn't show it another 6 times. (which is why I'm ok with missing it)

Ny Times Review: The Case Against Coldplay
I think people should read this article, because it gives us a chance to defend Coldplay against an argument that is well-crafted and intelligent (as opposed to people who just say "It sucks. Chris Martin sucks"). Unfortunately I think people are just going to refuse to even acknowledge that a normal person couldn't dislike Coldplay and this will be shoved onto the pile with all of the other "haters" instead of being used as a reason to talk about why X & Y is great (or isn't). I have to agree with the author when he says "The album is faultless to a fault, with instrumental tracks purged of any glimmer of human frailty." This isn't always a bad thing (see: Kid A, most Brian Eno stuff that Radiohead stole from to make Kid A), but for a band wearing their hearts on their sleeves as plainly as Coldplay, I think it is. And I agree that the lyrics are cliched. I disagree with his allegations of the band's supposed self-importance. And I don't necessarily think that the music growing in scope (which it undeniably has) is a bad thing. If it didn't get bigger and grander, and they stayed with the more simple arrangements of Parachutes, he'd be accusing them of not "growing artistically" or something. I don't know. I still have to listen to X & Y some more before I decide whether or not I like it. But this article at least offers some interesting things to think about. Oh, and if mrcool really was Eric, he'd have said something more like "The NYT is a paper for liberal hacks who hate America." :P

Talk (does anybody know the song of Kraftwerk...)
I wonder how many people are being exposed to Kraftwerk for the first time thanks to Coldplay? That's something I wouldn't have predicted in a thousand years.

Well no coldplay concert for me
mrcool is headed for a big time drug freakout in his first year of college. :uhoh2:

how was your night!
I didn't smoke my first cigarette until I was 19. And I smoked like half a pack that night because I was trying to impress this girl. Then when we finally made out (apparently it worked) it was like licking an ashtray. Disgusting. How was your first experience?

To the dutch people
I have nothing to contribute to this thread, but I did want to express my surprise that a thread called "To the dutch people" has gotten 9 pages of replies.
