  1. Well, I pay close attention to politics, and I find history fascinating, but I could probably tell you a lot more about music than either of those things, even though I'm fairly knowledgable in all three. :wink3:
  2. If you must know, Music Industry. :D
  3. I've always been scared of lighting gas burners and grills for that reason.
  4. Arnie loves nobody, he's said before: "Sex is more fun alone."
  5. ooooooooh, I'll bet it really itches, doesn't it? Doesn't it? :sneaky:
  6. Philadelphia, PA - Birthplace of America :D The Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were signed here, the first American flag was made here by Betsy Ross, and the oldest still-occupied residential neighborhood in North America is here. Ben Franklin founded one of America's first universities, its first fire comapny, its first hospital, and its first public library here, and it was America's capital from 1790 until 1800. Of course, that was all over 200 years ago and now Philadelphia is apparently regarded as just the opposite of the "city of brotherly love," and we also have a reputation for being particularly nasty sports fans, which I think is mostly unfounded. Here's a view of Center City from the South St. bridge across the Schuylkill River. This location is about a 20 minute walk from where I live. Here's another view of Center City from around the same area. The football stadium in the lower left is owned by the University of Pennsylvania, and is where I saw Bono speak a couple weeks ago. This is our City Hall, which is still one of the largest municipal buildings in the world, and which was once voted "ugliest building in the country" by some magazine or other. My neighborhood where I live now is in West Philadelphia. The population here is a mix of native Philadelphians and students who moved to the area (I happen to fit both demographics), although I'm out on the edge of the student area, and I know lots of students who won't come out here because they think it's "in the ghetto" (which seems ridiculous to me). So needless to say, it's what some might call "gritty," but it's really not all that bad, and it gets much worse the further west you go. I guess in some ways it's your typical urban environment, but I think it's nice. There's a real sense of community here, since you see the same people outside in the same places every day, and it's far enough away from all the tourist traps that it's not overly crowded, but it's also close enough that you can walk to those placs if you want to. Some of the houses out here are beautiful, much more character and personality than most rowhomes and especially most suburban environments. The pictures on this website were all taken in an area that's about a 10 minute walk from my house, so if you really want to, you can see the grocery store where I shop and the row of stores that has my favorite record store (two up from the bottom). :P http://westphillydata.library.upenn.edu/photos_40th.htm
  7. yep, it's the first song on Talking Heads' "Speaking in Tongues" album. :D
  8. let's see.... 1. June 2001 at the Electric Factory (Coldplay's first ever Philadelphia show) 2. August 2002 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC (part of their pre-AROBTTH US club tour) 3. February 2003 at the Tweeter Center across the river in Camden, NJ (a huge amphitheatre, that show sucked ass) I hope I didn't reply to this thread three months ago and I've completely forgotten about it.
  9. Well, on the bright side, the next time you want to call your sister stupid, you'll have something to back it up. :P
  10. You probably missed the small print saying "this offer only valid for the first three months" or something like that.
  11. I don't really think Bush is unintelligent either... just a phenominally bad public speaker. I think his real fault lies in the fact that he's unbelievably stubborn, and thinks that having good intentions are the same as getting good results, and he refuses to accept that any of his decisions are, in retrospect, wrong, even though the entire rest of the country (indeed, the world) can see that. That's why Donald Rumsfeld hasn't been canned yet: if Bush fired him, he'd have to essentially admit that he was wrong to hire him in the first place, which he'll never do. Basically, I think saying he's a bad leader because he's stupid is a gross oversimplification, and an ignorant one at that, even in jest. :P At any rate, as numerous people have said, it's bewildering that anybody would compare him to Hitler.
  12. Scratch it..... SCRATCH IT!
  13. These are my favorites :cowboy:  :charming: :wideeyed:
  14. Philip Glass - "Massman"
  15. It's not worth the money I'd spend on it. I'd rather just see a few of the bands play smaller venues later.
  16. There's another easy target. I think people who are primarily in action movies should be excluded from this thread, because there's not a single person going to see a Steven Segal or Jean Claude van Damme movie expecting to see riveting acting. Keanu Reeves on the other hand... trash away. :P
  17. I thought the ending sucked too. :P And I think it's great sometimes when movies leave lots of questions unanswered, but I wasn't really satisfied with the way they tried to do that in Donnie Darko.
  18. Belle and Sebastian - "If You Find Yourself Caught In Love" Their last couple albums have been really spotty, but that song is a gem. :D
  19. Man, I hated constantly having military recruitment officers around in high school. I looked weird enough that they never really bothered me though. They did call my house a couple times. I'd answer the phone and they'd ask "is Tom there?" and I'd say "Nope" and hang up.
  20. Yuppie suburbanites and tourists who form in massive, slow-moving groups and get in everybody's way, either on the sidewalk asking me what direction the Liberty Bell is in or on the streets in their massive SUV's. That's why I stay out of the historic area and out here where the tourists won't come because they think it's a "ghetto." :D Anyway, I know 90% of people these days live in suburbs so I'm probably alienating everybody, but oh well. :P

I always get really pissy around Christmas time. :dozey:
