[9-July-2011] Coldplay @ T in the Park, Balado, Kinross-shire, Scotland
Trouble is also unbelievably good live. They played it a lot at the very start of the Viva tour :) Agreed on that, 42 is absolutely epic and one of the best songs of the Viva era :)

Aw, no, I wasn't making a point about what anyone prefers :) I was just meaning that Guy is/has been an ass about Shiver...so much so that I'm amazed it's on the set at all. (Having said that I think both the majority of fans (including casual) and newbies would enjoy that amazing new version of Shiver a lot more. I can tell you've never heard ENL live!! It's not my favourite song of theirs by far, but I've seen them more than ten times live and heard ENL just once, and have to say it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen them do (apart from Warning Sign, perhaps)

 Guy is an idiot about Shiver - sorry but he is.

Places and foods with similar names ;--)
Ham and Sandwich in Kent, southeast England. Both lovely places :)

Should Coldplay use backing tracks?
I'm fairly sure the extra guitar was played live by a guitar tech just off-stage.

I wouldn't wait to be spoilered....WATCH IT!!! :P

Torchwood
Just finished watching the new episode in high quality online, and I pretty much LOVED it :) It is completely different so far though. Only really the concept of Torchwood and three characters remain the same. But on this basis I'd strongly suggest everyone gives it a chance!! It's more or less exactly what you'd expect with the American co-production. I'm aware though that the US and UK versions are slightly different. I can imagine they might switch out some of the US scenes (it was heavily US-based) for UK ones in 'our' broadcast. I don't think (?) it's aired yet in the US, but it's been available in advance online for at least four hours if you live in the States: http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/tv/Torchwood%3A-Miracle-Day/171389/2023446129/Ep-101---The-New-World/videos I learned about proxies today, finally, and watched it using a US one. I tried quite a few but found one that worked well (from the UK). It was butter-smooth over my 8mb connection, and it's the third one down on here: http://proxy-ip-list.com/free-usa-proxy-ip.html And this is the page where I learned how to set the proxy in Firefox (but it's easy, just Tools>Options>Advanced>Settings>select the Manual Proxy Configuration box>(enter the details of the proxy)>check the box underneath for 'Use This Proxy Server For All Protocols>click OK at the bottom of the box>click OK at the bottom of the main box>go to the webpage): http://www.ehow.com/how_2269615_use-a-proxy.html

Lover's In Japan Live (dont you miss it?)
It's a crime LiTii isn't still played - it's a far, far better song than many others imho, apart from the fact that it's not as well known. Many 'semi-casual' fans I know rave about it as one of their best tracks ever. Lost is a really strange one for me. No casual fan I've ever spoken to knows it, far more know LiJ. I'd probably rather hear anything else from the Viva era, even CoL. It's great to dance to, it's a bit of an anthem (think Chris likes those??? :laugh3:) but it's far from a classic. I think they just like the change of pace at a gig, but for me they have enough anyway. (Trying to please the 'dance/crossover crowd' as much as they did with ETIaW? Possibly.) Lovers in Japan is my favourite ever song played live since the Rush of Blood tour (except Politik), but I don't think it's the same in anything larger than arenas, and I will always miss the magic of the confetti (just like having the Yellow balloons in Lost - it's heresy!!) That said, it beats Lost out of any festival... But at least they played it for me in Newcastle :flutterby:

The audience looked really fantastic to me too...it was just the TV production.

The band themselves seem to love playing Cemeteries live - such a shame because imho it's neither a great track now a great live experience :\ Oh, and Guy hates Shiver, doesn't he? So I guess it's then end of that

I thought it's been 18 songs. So Shiver was swapped out tonight. (Maybe missing something here :P)

Yes I've watched every single one. This is their best musical performance in my humble opinion, by far (including Glastonbury).

Who cares about the crowd? (Maybe it's just the way they're being filmed anyway.) The band are on FIRE tonight, I've never seen them better. Astonishing :o I'm speechless. The coldplayers there must be having the best time imaginable

I was going to say this is one of the best live gigs EVER from the boys, and then they played THAT version of GPASUYF... stunning...:o <edit> better than Glastonbury?! So far I'd say 'yes'!!

[25-June-2011] Coldplay @ Glastonbury festival, Worthy Farm, Pilton, UK
There are two sets of drums in the track playing at the same time (I think). Will's are played live (again I think - it's always looked and sounded that way) and Guy's are on a backing track.

I think a lot of it is backed, and it's quite easy to tell after watching loads of the shows. I don't mind really, most of the time - I know they want it to be a 'perfect' sound, and that most people won't notice, and in that sense it's theatre over musicality. But all that's broken when Guy stops pretending to drum the part he's meant to be playing - even to those of us who already know/guessed :laugh3: The funny thing is, the band are best (for me) and also look most comfortable when it's just them and their instruments on the actual songs :)

[28-June-2011] Coldplay @ 'Where The Action Is' festival, Gothenburg, Sweden
Absolutely!! :) <edit> Seen Cemeteries once or twice live, but it left me fairly cold (it's a good song, but...) and I can't believe they'd play it instead of 42, Strawberry Swing, or Lovers in Japan. Especially 42!

[25-June-2011] Coldplay @ Glastonbury festival, Worthy Farm, Pilton, UK
It was a bit shameless wasn't it, because he didn't even bother to pretend to carry on playing? I think a lot of us already knew it, but it makes you start to wonder how many other parts of the show are just backing tracks...

[28-June-2011] Coldplay @ 'Where The Action Is' festival, Gothenburg, Sweden
A fantastic gig musically, and an absolutely unbelievable crowd, but I felt the band didn't play to it they could and should have. Little or no room for the crowd participation after Viva, ENL, The Scientist, and so the set also had little room to 'breathe'. Without those breaks, and the band themselves taking it all in, it felt (to me) like a mad rush through the Glastonbury set. Without those more expansive moments, and What a Wonderful World as well, this set needs an extra song or two. The front-loading of many of the favourites only makes sense to me if the mid-to-late set is given all the loving it deserves, to really wring every last drop of crowd pleasure out of, and it wasn't here. It was a set designed for Glastonbury, imported wholesale to Sweden for major (but far from maximum) effect. The Swedish fans deserved more I felt. But I hope each and every one had an incredible night. It was brilliant, and I'd have given almost anything to be there myself, because despite it not being all it had the almost-tangible potential to be, it was still a magnificent occasion, even through a choppy window on a PC screen. /critics' hat off Thanks a lot everyone, it's been fun :)

The clocks lasers immediately suggest someone's smoking a very very very big 'cigarette' (back left facing the stage). SECURITY!!!!
