Bigger or not ?
Completely agree. I think the new album is fantastic, in it's own way, in that it takes the lushness of their sound on X&Y, and makes almost every aspect of the music more interesting and lively. And whereas X&Y was quite flat in a way, there is actually some dynamics on this one - they go loud, quiet, chilled, urgent, and even weird across the 10 songs on there. But I agree about how beautiful the old stuff was, I mean See You Soon and others from that era are the type of songs that got me hooked to Coldplay in the first place - it's that simplicity and beauty of their earlier music that just can't be beaten for me. And there's also the passion in those songs that I think dwindled a bit as time went on... but with the new album, there's definitely more feeling in the songs again. And I'm definitely more a fan for their "underproduced" sound, the 'guitar and a piano' thing you mentioned. After I heard Parachutes, I knew I was a fan there and then, and I can't say that might have been the case if X&Y was the first Coldplay album I heard. It's not the sound of the music that counts for me - it's the music itself that matters. And that's why I was so blown away and excited by the acoustic version of Lovers In Japan. As much as I like the album version, the acoustic version is like the perfect Coldplay song for me, a return to their earlier sound, but at the same time, a little more mature and refined, and even a little more epic without trying to be. THAT's the Coldplay that I fell in love with.

Gwyneth...
I quite like Guava for a girl's name actually... good call! :D Haha, and obviously the nickname 'Zoro' would be the reason why Zoroaster would be such a cool name :P

Chris' lower register
Yeah, I always thought he should use his lower voice and even his tenor voice a lot more after X&Y sunk in. He has a good range, and he can sing high and low notes very well - but I think his falsetto can get a bit annoying at times. Its probably the main reason why I don't like the songs Fix You and Proof as much as some of the others... it can get a bit grating. But he's definitely taken steps forward on this album - Even the falsetto part on Violet Hill is tolerable, maybe because he's actually singing it with some passion (as apposed to some rather lifeless singing on X&Y). On DAAHF, his high singing actually suits the song very well, because it matches the delicate piano at the beginning. But yes, in short, I like Chris' voice better on this album than on X&Y.

Gwyneth...
^Haha, that's pretty hilarious . Children of Men would do it, I think. From the pictures though, it seems quite possible that she could be pregnant. I don't usually get caught up in all this gossiping about gwyneth (or any celebrity for that matter), but what intrigues me is the timing of it... I mean, her husband's got at least 8 months of extensive touring ahead of him, right? It just seems like a bit of an odd time to have another child, is all. If it's true though, I'm happy for them :nice: I just hope they don't go crazy with choosing a name though. Something slightly more down to earth this time, maybe.

Most overrated/underrated CP song?

What do you think about "the second parts" of the songs??
I really like CSC and the Escapist, but like most people here, Reign Of Love doesn't do much for me. It may be the most Parachutes-sounding song on the album, but really, most if not all of the songs on Parachutes are better than Reign Of Love. Its inoffensive... nothing more, nothing less.

My Violet Hill Piano Cover
That was beautiful, thank you :nice: For some reason this song sounds almost better the way you played it, and I think that's quite an achievement. Well done :D

Apple and Coldplay...like two peas in a pod
Haha, well I think you might be onto something there actually. It's true - every time I visit an Apple store there's like a 90% chance that they'll put on a Coldplay song. Last time it was The Scientist. And I agree that there's something about the band and Apple that seem to sort of just... fit. Maybe it's the contemporary feel of both the company and the band... or maybe its the fact that Coldplay are slightly more quirky than their peers, just like Apple seem to be a bit different to other computer companies out there. I don't know. But I see what you're getting at :D

Post pictures with your VLVODAAHF
Ok, I was really bored today so I finally decided to use our crappy less-than-1-megapixel camera to contribute to the thread. I need a decent camera BIG time  The first picture was a bit of a failiure... I miss-judged the timer and it caught me adjusting my glasses :P The other two are somewhat... normal, in comparison.

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends? Which Track Is Better?
Haha, ok fair enough :P I still kinda agree though.

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends? Which Track Is Better?
I really can't vote one or the other. I love them both for different reasons - Viva La Vida is basically a classic... it's catchy, memorable, and pretty much flawless. But I have a real soft spot for DAAHF - I loved it even before we heard the final album version, and I love it even more now. It may not be complete genius, but I don't know. For some reason, I just like the way it starts off quietly then builds towards the end. And I get the feeling that this is least over-produced track on the album, where its just the 4 guys and their instruments. And of course the male choir at the end... wow. That's a completely captivating moment for me. And I agree... its the best closer to a Coldplay album since Amsterdam. Love it. :nice:
