Why doesn't this ever get played live?
I think Viva and Paradise have comparable ammounts of pre-recorded sounds. As a non-specialist, I think the Viva songs you mentioned use, individually, a small proportion of backing tracks, considering how much this kind of device is used in a song like PoC, which includes pre-recorded vocals. Anyway, I think I'm saying this just because I appreciate the hability of delivering a organic live performance, a as live as possible one. It's always possible to create a new version of a song to play it live. What also annoys me is that they use pre-recorded keyboards in a song like ETIAW even though, it seems to me, it could be done live.

Showtime in different timezones: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Festival+of+Flame+%28London+2012+Paralympic+Games+Closing+Ceremony%29&iso=20120909T2030&p1=136 It's the first time I'm doing this, so if anyone could please check if I made any mistake (specially if I was dumb enough to set the time wrong), please, let me know.

I think they're not. If the helpers are allowed first in the venue, they wouldn't be able to hand the xylobands as well, if I understood correctly what you're saying. I think it'd be the workers checking tickets who hand the xylobands when concert attenders get in the venue or something like that.

Could you explain to what extent they are relying less on backing tracks? Songs like Princess of China and Paradise, to name just two, are heavily dependent on backing tracks, not to mention bits in various songs where they use pre-recorded keyboards.

From what I read from the reports and reviews concert-goers wrote up, the first 15 people or so queuing were asked to help (it looks there are more than 15 people in the photo Jason tweeted).

The Official School Thread
I won't say anything about these specif subjects because I wouldn't choose them myself (and they wouldn't be obligatory on my course), but I'd rather my teachers were enthusiastic about their own subjects than assign something way too basic, something that only gives you the idea that this or that exists and end of story. Having said that, I agree with you when you imply that sometimes teachers exaggerate the ammount of reading and of tests.

The Official School Thread
I agree with both of you. I'm on college now. This shit happens here as well. I fucking hate it when a student asks a question or makes a mistake while trying to answer a question the teacher made and the teacher treats him/her as if s/he were stupid. Acting as if the issue was obvious and/or regarding your students as morons won't help them understand the subject the least bit. I also hate it when the teacher goes 'Well, I won't dwell long on that part because you read the textbook and...'. Well, each student learns on his own way. Some like to read a text before the classe, some afterwards. The fact that some read it only afterwards doesn't mean they're lazy. Besides, if reading something was a guarantee that the students would understand it, what's the point of going to class? I know it's important to read at least what the teachers assign, but they shouldn't take it for granted that everybody is the same and that doubts or misunderstanding won't happen, even they read the textbooks. It's not because they read it halfheartedly (though it does happen). If you're acquainting some subject for the first time, for example, you're prone to miss some details and not pay enough attention to significant parts. It's only a human feature. What I hate most is teachers whose ego is so inflated that they can't stand when I student confronts some claim the teacher made: classes shouldn't have anything to do with individuals; it should be all about the subject itself, irregardless of the person standing in the front of the class.** I have absolute respect for decent teachers, but they should realise that students learning the subject they are teaching is more important than their egos. I also can't stand when teachers make up an answer when they don't how to answer a question. Being bold enough to admit that you don't something and trying to find an appropriate answer should be a pre-requisite of being a teacher. I think you should put yourself in the first place. If you don't agree with some of your teachers behaviour, then study for yourself, not for them. What you learn at school will probably be relevant throughout your whole life. edit: **I just realised what I said can be interpreted as 'students and teachers aren't people'. Far from that; I only meant that people shouldn't think they're untouchable or way smater than everybody else.

Thanks for the thread! Wouldn't it be a good idea to add his twitter's url on the first post (since his his tweets are going to be posted here)? It may be easier for people who don't know it to find it :) Edit: thank you!

Coldplay @ the Olympics? Any one else gutted?
That'd be great. The paralympcs could be one tenth of the olympics dimension for all I care. It'd just be great if Coldplay played at its closing ceremony.

The Official Phil is Hot thread (now known as the greet Phil thread :P)
Hi, Sarah :) Long time, no (virtual) see. The news is awesome, but, even though most of people are curious to see him, he should be protected because he's a little baby. He has no control whatsoever of what's posted about him. I'm well aware none of you guys intend to do any harm, but the baby's (and his family's) should be a priority. I hope no one is personally offended by my opinion (and sorry for going over the same subject).

Post pictures of the gorgeous Chris
It isn't. It's just some photomontage someone made with Chris' head and, if I'm not mistaken, Jake Gyllenhal's (I have no clue how his name is spelled) body :D

What are you reading right now?
Yeah, some Orwellian influence is present as well. 1984 is a brilliant book, it's one of my favourites. Btw, hello, fellow Brazilian :)

What are you reading right now?
Yeah, surely, I was just saying we have information that MM was influenced by Cormac's book, but, as far I as know, we don't have any mention of other books' storylines influencing that song in particular :)

Major Minus was influenced by The Road, by Cormac McCarthy, as can you see here: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78636 Saying that it was influenced by The Road doesn't entail it wasn't infuenced by Remember Who You Are, but I have never seen Coldplay or anybody from their crew mentioning that book. Btw, I'm reading A Clash of Kings.

How many phones they sell is of no concern to me, honestly. I do understand that doing music is a job like any other, I just don't understand some of their promotion moves of late.

Small Reminders/Updates & The Coldplay Messenger (feat. Roadie #42!)
I'm one of the few people who love X&Y. Although there's nothing revolutionary as there's in Viva La Vida, for example, some of its tracks are quite masterpieces, like Swallowed in the Sea, What If and White Shadows. Yeah, weak argument at best. I have the same feeling about Muse, for instance. They're a stadium band, but that doesn't mean at all they're a bad band. Very much to the contrary, actually.
