You can hear Lost! in this video...
thanks for finding the interview! i love Lost? and i think i'm gonna love Lost! too... but i can't help noticing the hip-hopness of that beat.. not that i think it sounds bad but there really is nothing coldplay are not prepared to do on this album (even a dance loop on CSC)! its going to be a very interesting album...

COLDPLAY.COM UPDATED - CONTESTS REVEALED
i used my hotmail account and still haven't received anything back a week later. i wasn't sure whether to sign up 500 times either for fear of being penalised. alternatively, it may be viewed favourably as a sign of dedication...

Violet Hill FULL VIDEO!
its hard not to agree that they could have done more with this video, but i think one of the great things about them is that they dont take themselves too seriously... they are arguably the biggest rock band in the world, and yet the video for their first single looks like a home movie of them messing around in the backyard... i think it rocks.

Short Interview on Amazon.com-Violet Hill
that's so funny... you know how you play a song really loud and do the air guitar thing in the mirror and pretend you are coldplay (everyone does that right?) haha... anyway today i actually found myself doing the bass guitar bit of VH! who does the bass guitar?? just goes to show that Guy is shining on this song... btw was i imagining it, or was Guy not playing bass in the clip? seems kinda strange.. loving the Jonnyfest line too

best coldplay song yet
^valid point. interesting that (i'm pretty sure) they said that VLVODAAHF contains - at least in their opinion - their best song to date.. reckon its VLV? as much as i love the song, i hope the best is yet to come from the album...

LP 5
Me too.. my favourite song title all along (as well as cemetaries of london). i'm surprised the old painters didn't make the final cut, given that this painting theme has dominated every bit of coldplay artwork (official and unofficial) produced over the past few weeks (ever since those first shots of the "new CP website" which i'm still holding out for...). wouldn't it be great if we got FOP next wednesday (we are getting another single on 21/5 right?) instead of another album single... i'd rather not hear half the album before it's released. alternatively, i'd gladly settle for them randomly announcing that they are tacking it on the end of another song like the did with chinese sleep chant..

Endings of newly released songs
wholeheartedly agree. have you seen the toronto dvd version of clocks where they do the buildup/countdown at the end? I know they do this alot when they play it live, but in that particular version johnny does this incredible thing on the guiter, particularly in the last 2 seconds of the buildup, that sounds increadible. i love they way their songs sound so much more explosive live, which is why i got excited when that guy who claimed to have heard VH first (and turns out he did!) said that johnny will be going harder on the guitar than he ever has before in the studio...

Life In Techniclour... can you hear Cemeteries Of London?
does seem short, but if they stuck to their 42 minute time restriction for the album (which it seems they did since Chris recently said that brevity was its strength), and theres 13 songs (incl CSC, ROL, escapist), and the songs we have so far are around 4 minutes each, then theres gonna have to be some unusually short tracks on there... besides, for some reason i feel like if it is an instrumental (which i kinda hope it isnt), what would be the point of stretching it out? then again, i havent heard it properly yet, so that's my ignorant opinion

The Viva La Vida (song) meaning thread!
sorry in advance for the lengthy response... i read someone's interpretation somewhere on this forum that i think explains this issue.. something about dictators always believing that "history will prove them right". i agree with it. the persona in the song doesn't appear to me to be very remorseful for his sins. see the way he says "never honest work, but that was when i ruled the world" - suggests to me that he's justifying what he's done based on the socially accepted practices of the times. and he seems to not be able to get over the fact that he used to rule the world - that he doesn't anymore is of greater concern to him than any wrongdoing he did. when he says "the walls closed on me" and "my head on a silver plate", its full of self-pity, and he almost says "feel the fear in my enemies' eyes" with pride. I agree it's probably about an ancient Roman leader falling from his throne.. while there is clearly a religious dimension to this persona, i doubt very much that it's about Jesus, for various reasons, but mainly due to the reference to "my enemies' eyes"... even those who crucified Him would never be referred to as "Jesus' enemies"... Christianity just doesn't work that way. plus, i've noticed some people (not so much here, but elsewhere) surprised by CP's religious references in the new material... GPASUYF clearly indicates faith of some sort, so i don't know why... feel free to disagree (not that you needed my permission...)

Life in Technicolor: what do you think?
isn't it ironic that by placing yourself in the "proper fan" category, the effect then is that anyone who is a massive fan, and wants to hear it badly, can't; and anyone who doesn't want to hear it that much, can! twisted logic imo. funny how our sense of morality kicks in at the most inappropriate of moments...

Endings of newly released songs
even though their experimentation with song structure is already evident, particularly on VH, i think the ending of VH is reminiscent of endings like that of square one (more so the live version, which i usually hear with a piano rather than guitar).. so "coldplay endings" havent been abandoned entirely. hopefully we'll get some "home, home, where i wanted to go"-type climaxes...

Coldplay.Com EXTRAS
Tracie, i was going to write a long response explaining why i think you may be wrong, but i reeeeally want you to be right, so i'm gonna leave that one. but i will say... 2m downloads does not necessarily mean 2m fans who would travel across the world to see CP... loads of people will download/take anything because its free. plus, it wouldn't surprise me if many "CP fans" don't even know how to get tickets to those concerts.. i know lots of people who say they like CP but i bet still don't know that VLV has been released. again, fingers crossed the other 1,970,000 downloaders get moving...

Coldplay.Com EXTRAS
keep in mind, us lot would have rushed to sign up when the announcement came through, which would have quickly increased the %, but there's only so many of us... once we've signed up, who else is going to keep that initial momentum going?

[Organising US/CANADA] Coldplaying Member Meetups @ "VIVA LA VIDA"
if i'm reading this correctly, you have a spare ticket that will go to waste if you win... SHOTGUN!! (incase the phrase doesn't have international significance, basically i now get first preference for the spare ticket) and (although my chances of being there are slim-to-none) i think the CPing member meetup is a great idea

Life in Technicolor (No links)
i hate to sound like a tosser, but this is really ethically challenging... as the biggest CP fans in the world, are we supposed to be listening to everything that gets leaked asap or exercising more restraint so as not to reduced the importance of the official release? my gut is saying watch the video!!! but my mate (also a huge fan) is saying don't. a third opinion wouldn't hurt... EDIT: tnspieler – didn’t see your post before i posted. Glad i’m not the only one feeling slightly guilty (or at least tying to avoid feeling guilty)

What is your favourite Coldplay song today?
Lost! ... "you'll be lost... every river that you tried to cross..."

Viva la Vida (song) = Beautiful...?
LOL. i was going to post exactly the same response earlier today. Let's get off the guy's back now. It can't be easy admitting to yourself that you're not as big a Coldplay fan as you thought you were.. i would be devastated if i were in the 2% or so of people that Chris singled out as people that "are not gonna like it".

VIVA LA VIDA Album Reviews
that's quite funny at times

The Problem with Viva la Vida
agreed. just because they're not playing the instruments we traditionally associate with each of them or not playing them in the same way doesn't mean it's all chris. they are probably playing other instruments that we are yet to identify - take till kingdom come as an example - chris on guitar, will on keyboard, guy on harmonica.... the absence of heaving drumming and sexy bassline is obviously deliberate (or they wouldn't have done it). they're clearly trying to create an atmosphere that would be disturbed by those elements. but notice the contrast with vh where will and guy really do take centre stage in the song... its almost all drum and bassline, which suits the mood of that song... so i don't agree that they're being left out of the album or taking a backseat to chris (any more than usual at least! :P)

Viva la Vida (song) = Beautiful...?
i doubt this deserves its own thread but i think it's woth mentioning incase it hasn't already been said (which i'm sure it has by now..) a theory was floating around that vlv was just famous old painters under a different name... i think we can conclusively dismiss that idea (although the recent picture of the song titles on the piano pretty much gave this away anyway)... vlv does not appear to be at all linked to painters of any sort. fingers crossed that we still get to hear famous old painters.....

"Viva la Vida" Lyrics Thread
haha getting closer guys... but 'never an honest work' is not gramatically correct... i believe it's 'never honest work' in the 2nd and 3rd choruses. second, i've had many discussions with people over this today and although i agree it would make more sense if he said 'will call my name', since that's more unexplainable than being called to heaven after so much wrongdoing, i'm 100% certain it's 'won't call my name'

The Album To Remember Them By...
thing is.. when they released speed of sound, people carried on about how its just a ripoff of clocks... and if they did the same thing again, the media (and the rest of the world) would crucify them. reality is, when coldplay release an album, the world has something to say about it. the only option CP had was to put out something so different that at least if people were gonna talk about it, it was going to be bagging them out for recycling their own melodies. i personally love the 2 new songs and i reckon it could very well be the best album yet...
