The National

2011 Albums Worth Listening To
she promised two last year and only delivered 1. so i hope this is worth the wait. probably my favourite solo artist in the world :) love her acceptance speech here. probably the first person to ever start with "hi i'm *insert name*" [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo2if-Xog_I]YouTube - Laura Marling wins Brit Award[/ame]

First Single and first album you ever bought
funny you say that. i didn't download an album until i was about 17. before then i would download about 800-1000 songs a year but if i wanted a full album from a band i liked i would go buy it.

Bon Iver
wow thats an incredible score for Bon Iver. i wouldnt score it that high. at the moment it is sitting on a solid 8.5 to 9 for me. that last track is really whats stopping me giving it anymore than that.

U2
i really like this review :) reminds me of when i saw my favourite band, Pearl Jam. it's funny how some of your favourite memories tend to be what the band said during the show rather than the songs. shows the importance of crowd interaction.

Get-well wishes pouring in for E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons
even sitting down he was taller than most of the others!

Have you ever stopped listening to something because of someone else?

Get-well wishes pouring in for E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons
can't say i know much about Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band aside from the fact that they were one of the biggest things to happen to music since the Beatles. but after watching this video i can see what all the fuss is about. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PTJHhUeAfc]YouTube - Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Jungleland (PROSHOT)[/ame] amazing musician! RIP brother.

Have you ever stopped listening to something because of someone else?
after John left RHCP i didn't listen to them for well over a year, at all! but then i slowly starting listening again and remembered why i love them so much. i had a similar reaction when The White Stripes broke up but i got over that rather quickly.

The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread
easy first match but they play tottenham, arsenal, chelsea, liverpool and man city in the first 10 matches as well as trips to stoke and everton, both teams they struggle against.

oh great. more confusing band names. just what we need.

Elbow
i meant their manchester shows haha. sometimes bands play venues that are too big for them because they want to use their full set up which wouldnt otherwise fit in a small venue. that might be the case with Elbow. had a friend in the "industry" telling me today that a lot of bands with a big production, hire out a 10 000 seat venue but make a deal with the organisers to limit the capacity to 6000 with lower hire costs and so on.

Kanye West!
so how are my young kanye fans going? listened to all the albums yet?

Elbow
30 quid (ie $55) is incredibly cheap for an arena show. the average cost of an arena down here is $90-100 with the better seats being $130+ but the thing is the production costs of bringing a show here are incredibly high. you're travelling to the other side of the world for starters and then you're travelling on average 1000km between each show when you get here. so the prices are completely understandable.

2011 Albums Worth Listening To
just listened to Smother by Wild Beasts again and it will take a whole lot of really amazing music to knock off a top 5 spot this year. truly magnificent album.
-
Elbow
i know i've had this whinge before but you're ticked off about $55 tickets!!!!! elbow's sydney tickets are going for $80!! and before you ask. our dollar is strong than yours, marginally. the show sold out very very quickly which means the next time they come down here they will quite comfortably charge even more and get away with it. but thats a very big venue they're playing.

Official Aussie Music Fan Thread
i'm the guy who stands in front of the merch stand and has a groan about the ridiculous prices. :smug: re Harvest. can't say i'm THAT excited about it. like i said on The National thread i think they've been on the road long enough and it's time they go back into the studio. i'm that big on Portishead or Flaming Lips. i'm hoping Parklife sells out really fast and they announce sideshows for a lot of the acts. Parklife isn't quite known for giving us many sideshows so i hope this year is the exception. not sure if you guys saw the Foo Fighters rumoured dates or not but that looks like it will be the tour of the year as the band is aiming to do stadiums only around the country. i will be there with bells and whistles and my very best moshing shoes :P

2011 Albums Worth Listening To
yeah based on 7 ratings...........sure its a great album though. quick flashback to 2010. what do people think of Best Coast? "girl" rock (sorry couldn't think of a better name) seems to be making a real comeback in the past year. with Cults and Warpaint already making quite the impact.

oh and i didnt get my ticket back after the show!! gggrrrr i hate that! but i always keep the ticketek receipt :P do the rest of you have a little box or somewhere to keep all your concert tickets? initially i just had an envelope. but eventually i ran out of space so i upgraded to a shoe box. sadly if there was one thing in my room i could save in a fire. i would take that box haha

U2
my favourite will always been Live in Paris 1987 : The Tear Gas Incident. followed closely by Zoo TV in Sydney. [ame] [/ame]

Bag Raiders
good to see aussie techno doing so well overseas. The Presets headlined a stage at Coachella. Cut Copy sold over 4000 tickets to their show in LA recently. Midnight Juggernauts just did a big south american tour. Architecture in Helsinki are also doing well and i guess you can sort of call Pendulum aussie and they're doing pretty big things in the UK. it's not exactly the genre this country is best know for, rock n roll has always been more our thing. i might check out Bag Raiders if they're in town. these local bands tend to do 3 national tours every year lol.

Bag Raiders
thanks for the aussie music exposure. but i always get these guys confused with Miami Horror.
