  1. The second sale in January did. The first batch of passes were on sale for a full week several months beforehand, which had WAY more passes than the January batch. Which is kind of a ploy on the part of Goldenvoice (Coachella's promoter) to claim they sold out within hours.
  2. I've noticed U.S. festivals have been on a sales upswing lately. These past 2 years are the first time Coachella's sold out within a week (usually it's taken a few months), while Lolla and ACL sold out last year in a few months even though they hadn't sold out at all in recent years. I'm just glad we're still nowhere near Glasto demand levels.
  3. Don't mind if I bump this from 6 years of obscurity and zero activity... Any more fans in the 6 years that have passed? :P Three albums out now. Just caught her live the other night. 4. No release date yet. I believe it'll only be available for paid subscribers to u2.com, at least upon initial release.
  5. I'll give the fans a pass on those (this was a fan-voted tracklisting) since they've been on numerous releases before. Same thing goes for Sunday Bloody Sunday.
  6. Was it their own show or a festival? I thought they were great at their local headline date here last year, but I've heard they're historically mediocre at fests.
  7. U22 (live album) final tracklist dropped a few weeks ago: 1. Bad 2. Where The Streets Have No Name 3. Magnificent 4. One 5. Ultraviolet 6. Even Better Than The Real Thing 7. With Or Without You 8. Beautiful Day 9. City Of Blinding Lights 10. The Unforgettable Fire 11. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For 12. All I Want Is You/Love Rescue Me 13. Moment Of Surrender 14. Until The End Of The World 15. The Fly 16. One Tree Hill 17. Stay (Faraway, So Close) 18. Walk On 19. Zooropa 20. Elevation 21. Out Of Control 22. Mysterious Ways Fairly good blend of big hits and lesser-known fan favorites IMO.
  8. True conversation I had with my therapist the other day: Therapist: "I hate Muse. Except I like that one Undisclosed Something song. It has a cool bass effect." Me: "I HATE THAT SONG." Eventually he recognized me at a show. It was at that point that I knew I followed the band too much. :laugh3:
  9. It's funny since I've seen both Sharon van Etten AND Wye Oak open for The National. Both were great, and I honestly didn't know a thing about Sharon beforehand. Been doing a bunch of free shows this month. Caught free mini-performances by Nada Surf, Gotye, and Coldplay (lol) earlier this month and then saw My Brightest Diamond last night. Cursive and Veronica Falls will wrap up the month for me, as it's been a very fruitful month for free in-store shows and free TV tapings. Also got tickets for The Temper Trap next month, then of course comes the Coachella madness in April. Seriously contemplating ACL later this year, especially since the Bonnaroo lineup is good but not quite good enough for me to throw down the travel expenses.
  10. That was even better than the Arcade Fire one last year.
  11. It's funny, I once spoke to Tom Kirk about Micro Cuts, and he said it DOES strain Matt's voice. It's a reason it hasn't been performed recently (R/L excluded) since he has to hit those notes with a huge force that he doesn't have to in other falsetto-heavy tracks like Exo 1. Matt's voice has indeed deepened a bit over the years and it sounds like he wants to preserve that falsetto as long as possible.
  12. Same. Whereas Keane was a guilty pleasure band of mine when it comes to piano pop-rock, The Fray has always driven me up the wall. Both are labeled as "whiny pop-rock", but at least Keane's first two albums had some great melodies more akin to Travis campy-ness than outright sap sentiment like The Fray. I got their first album when it came out and it was all very middling, even when you drop all the obnoxious singles. Then I tried listening to the second album to give them another chance, but it was even worse than the first. I honestly had no idea these guys had a 3rd album coming out, and I truly do not care. Not everyone here is still a Coldplay fan. ;)

  14. I'm not talking about what yours or my individual song opinions are, though. Believe me, I like Clocks better than most of those songs. But Foo Fighters have mainstream recognition at least equal to the level of Coldplay. Picks for performers are more about appeal than critical acclaim. CP and FF have both of those, of course, but I wouldn't give CP the advantage in either category. And Super Bowl performances aren't bound by genres. For crying out loud, they got the Black Eyed Peas to perform in 2011, and I think the majority of us can agree they suck, but that was an example of both rock and pop taking a backseat.
  15. Whoa, that's like having to go to YouTube traffic school. :laugh3::rolleyes:
  16. Everlong? Check. Learn to Fly? Check. My Hero? Check. Best of You? Check. All My Life? Check. Times Like These? Check. Those are, of course, older hits of theirs that have had a long time to settle in the mainstream world. There's more uncertainty to recent hits like "Walk" or "The Pretender", but you can't seriously believe more people recognize "Politik" than "Everlong". Unfortunately for both, you're not allowed to play the Super Bowl until you're at least 50 years old in fears that you'll "scare off" the older generation.
  17. Seen Paradise live. Still hated it. The fact that even a lot of the members here who usually defend every aspect of the band are disappointed by this performance just goes to show you how weak it was, both in performance delivery and song choice. Politik was never a single, yet that didn't stop Coldplay from kicking ass with it at the 2003 show. Face it, this was never meant to be their year, especially with their only nominations being weak singles that were released before the album was, which isn't even eligible until next year.
  18. Nope, only pre-show and red carpet are streamed. CBS needs to move into the 21st century already and not time delay an awards show. Every other major awards show realizes that in the Internet age, you'll spoil it if you even see the front page of Yahoo within 3 hours of the show if you're not on the east coast. Anyway, there are illegal streams out there. Look for 'em.
  19. Wow, give me a break, guys. It'd be one thing if Coldplay lost to Nickelback, but Foo Fighters are a quality act who have continued their relevance into this decade, and quite frankly put out a much better effort than Coldplay anyway. And considering the whole of MX isn't eligible this year, Coldplay's lucky to have any nominations in the first place. Pre-telecast. Every year, the majority of awards are given before the TV broadcast. Yeah, no disrespect to Adele, but I'll take Thom Yorke dancing for 5 minutes over Adele sitting in a chair for 3 minutes.
  20. Agreed on all 3 points. Even when I discard my hatred for ETIAW, it's a POP song. LiT2 was nominated in the pop category a few years ago so they really can't make up their mind about Coldplay. I think Radiohead deserves at least something. Totally fine with them not winning Best Alternative Album (TKoL was a drop from previous efforts) but I'll be sad if Lotus Flower loses in every category.
  21. Congrats to Foo Fighters. They deserved it this year. Best album and singles they've put out in probably a decade.
  22. A new U2 album has been speculated by even the band themselves for 3 years now, so I'll believe it when I see it. In terms of bands who we know will have material out by year's end: - The Shins (Port of Morrow) - Miike Snow (Happy to You) - Regina Spektor (What We Saw from the Cheap Seats) - The Temper Trap - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Muse - Jack White - Franz Ferdinand - Grizzly Bear - Local Natives - Phoenix - The xx
  23. May as well give my opinion since I gave the earlier summary: I'm probably one of the more vocal critics of Mylo Xyloto around these parts, even though I haven't really criticized it within the past few months just because I got all the venting out of my system within the first month of the album's release. And honestly, seeing some of these tracks live didn't do much to change my mind. The band did seem a bit tired, and I fully believe those of you who attended the Nokia show who say they had more energy there, but even for a shortened set, this fell short of my expectations. Now, the band could put out albums full of recordings of dogs farting for the rest of their career and "The Scientist" will still be an amazing song at any show no matter what. And it was a nice surprise as the only old track (VLV doesn't count yet), as opposed to a more obvious selection like "Yellow". But overall, I'm still not a convert to their new material even after seeing some of it live. ETIAW was entertaining because of the scaffolding climb, not because of the song itself. I got in free so I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth and endlessly moan, and now I can at least say I saw them this tour (even if it was a 1/3 length show), but I wasn't convinced that I should be paying steep prices for a show this tour.
  24. Cameras aren't allowed to Kimmel's tapings except for phones, so I sadly had to settle for phone quality instead of the stellar pics I usually get, but here's the scaffolding climb: And a standard pic:
  25. Just got home. Setlist: Charlie Brown Paradise Mylo Xyloto Hurts Like Heaven Viva la Vida The Scientist Every Teardrop is a Waterfall Notable moments: - Show began with the band soundchecking the first minute of Charlie Brown briefly in front of the audience before kicking into the actual show - CB and Paradise were filmed for broadcast in a few weeks. Other songs were audience-only. - Chris screwed up halfway through Paradise and was forced to restart the whole song since it was being filmed for broadcast. Dropped at least 5 f-bombs in the process. - Chris's scaffolding climb during the end of ETIAW was something I hadn't seen before.
