[8-Feb-2012] Coldplay @ Club Nokia, Los Angeles, CA, USA
I've been to Club Nokia once before and the floor is all GA standing, but for whatever godforsaken reason, Coldplay is notorious for placing seats on the floor at venues no other artist uses seats for, so I have no idea what they'll do. While the venue isn't the greatest, it IS intimate, so those who score tickets will probably get the most intimate Coldplay experience possible aside from things like that exclusive KROQ gig. Good freaking luck getting tickets in the first place, of course. ;)

In Radios is totally my favorite Rainbowhead album.

Coachella 2012 Line Up
I will be there like every year (living 2 hours away kinda helps, I guess) and my brain might melt on the desert ground this year, and no, that won't be from the heat (though I hope the temperature's more mild this year than last). I am already horrified thinking about what Saturday's set times will be, because I know I'm gonna have to miss at least half the awesome acts I want to see that day. Too stacked. Goldenvoice (the promoter) said the double weekends were to let more people go since last year had crazy demand, but everyone knows it's mostly for money. I'm going the first weekend. We'll actually get the grass, lol.

U2
All That You Can't Leave Behind is conflicting for me. On one hand, it's both their safest and poppiest album. On the other hand, it was probably a necessary move for the band after Zooropa and Pop were so experimental and pretty divisive among the fanbase (personally, Zooropa grew on me a lot, but I never liked Pop), so it brought back their mainstream attention and industry relevance. And "Walk On" is a great anthem.

You're going to Coachella too? I was totally hoping SP would show up there, but oh well, lineup is stellar without them. See you there! :)

Their LA show just went on sale and I'm sobbing because it's scheduled for the worst possible week of the entire year for me - my graduation week where I also have a crapload of final exams. Painful restraining myself. (though they did pick the single worst venue in the entire city) "In the End" was a pretty inevitable single. Video is okay, not great.

Radiohead
Good news: I paid off Coachella 6 months ago and finally get to see Radiohead live. Bad news: Santa Barbara is 20 minutes from me and the Bowl is a really intimate venue as opposed to an arena, but those jerks had to schedule that show the night I leave for the desert in order to be at Coachella. WHY. (no, I'm not gonna go and then arrive in the desert at 3am, I need rest for the fest) Oh well, at least I am still finally seeing them. Just not in an intimate setting.

How many gigabytes of music do you have?
39.11 I've deleted a lot, so I'd probably have around 60 if you count everything that's not on my computer. Almost all of it is 256 or 320 kbps in MP3 or M4A, so it'd be much more if I decided to rip stuff in FLAC.

[1-May-2012] Coldplay @ Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, CA, USA
I have no doubt in my mind they will, which is part of the reason I'm passing on these shows. They came here on 3 different occasions during the Viva tour - June 2008, Nov 2008, and July 2009. Speaking of the Dodgers, I wouldn't be surprised to see Coldplay move up to Dodger Stadium next time around seeing as how they're booking multiple dates at practically every arena and the demand is still overly crazy. So I hate to say it, but our little band has reached stadium popularity in North America.

I guess Lakeview or Downey would be closest for you. (I come from Ventura County so I always use Chatsworth.) They tend to run the buses to the Bowl every 20 minutes or so, and after the show, they'll run them every 5 minutes back. The bonus of the Bowl being more of a luxury venue is that they have a nice restaurant and a full-blown mini-mart. All of this is expensive, mind you, but being able to take pretty decent-tasting hot foods to your seats is quite awesome (unlike those cheap arena hot dogs).

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
I haven't posted in this thread since October. Sweet Christ, his kids are fat. I give it 10 months before Kelly gets pregnant again, which is double what it took last time, so I'm giving them some leeway.

[1-May-2012] Coldplay @ Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, CA, USA
Welcome to the Bowl, guys. Anybody's show here will be a lot more expensive than a standard show unless you're aiming for one of the back few sections where you can't see a bloody thing from. Seeing as how Coldplay's prices were already outrageously expensive for arenas, I am not surprised in the slightest that the front section is exceeding $400. VIP perks at the Bowl, for the record, include free parking and catering. That's about it. Parking at the Bowl is the worst in LA (and that's saying something), so if you aren't VIP, FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST, GET A SHUTTLE PASS. http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/visit/getting-to-the-bowl/park-and-ride.cfm There are plenty of shuttle stops all around L.A. County and it's only $5 for round-trip. Trust me, you want to do this. Bowl parking is extremely limited, stacked, and is a total nightmare worse than anything you've ever seen. I'm actually not going to either show, but since I've had good times with you guys at past Coldplay shows in LA, I'm shedding some advice as I am a Bowl veteran. ;) Have fun, guys!

White Lies
Impressed they've reached arena status over there! Good pics! They still don't really come over stateside. They only had a handful of dates here over the summer (oddly missing an LA date), and I was lucky enough to be at the one festival they played. Otherwise they were just playing small clubs of 400 people.

Lauryn Hill
It's funny, first time I saw her (at a festival), she was unexpectedly fun, and I'd never bothered with the Fugees either. Danced my ass off. The second time I saw her, however, she was absolutely terrible. A lot of this was based on sound problems and horrible mixing, but she was also in a less spirited mood with no energy (she actually had a kid earlier that week) and it wasn't enjoyable at all.

The Best Songs Of 2011
"Morning Mr. Magpie" eventually DID grow on me, but it's still one of the weaker TKOL tracks. I'm glad Metronomy got some credit, but overall, one of the weaker year-end lists I've seen. Me neither. She looks more like LLAMA Del Rey and kinda sings like one too.

Hollywood Bowl will always be far more expensive than your typical arena or amphitheater show, and to make matters worse, going for a standard seating option will land you halfway back AT BEST. The garden and terrace boxes or whatever they're called are typically double what anything behind them costs, usually going to either VIPs or season ticket holders (i.e. local billionaires). I don't even want to get started on the pool circle section. It's all seated, and for every show I've been to there, most people never stand up once the entire show because they're eating dinner or sipping wine the whole time. It's a deluxe venue where status sadly does count, and it's the reason that I hate the Bowl for rock shows. It's a lovely place for orchestral stuff, and the fact that Coldplay is choosing to play here instead of Staples makes me think they'll bring out an orchestra for something, but for me personally (especially since I'm very bitter about MX), I'll wait for their inevitable fall return date at another venue.

Have fun! :awesome: Don't forget - their final show of the tour streams TOMORROW at http://www.americanmary.com

Florence + The Machine
It's basically "more B-sides" vs. "more acoustic tracks and crappy remixes" so go for the deluxe edition and get "Heavy in Your Arms" and whatever other B-sides you don't get with that off iTunes. A few months ago I would have recommended BTL so you could get "Strangeness and Charm", but there's now a studio version so there's no need for that anymore.

PITCHFORK ALBUMS OF THE YEAR
Was kinda hoping M83 would upset Bon Iver, but they went with the safe option. Oh well. Favorite list so far is probably Consequence of Sound's.

We Used to Wait > Rococo > Ready to Start No disrespect to RTS, but it's lousy as a live opener. And Sprawl II vids = Lovely. <3
