  1. That is such a weird list. I have so many objections, but I guess that is true for every list I have ever seen. Oh well, makes for good discussion :) By the way, one of the things that I thought was funny about the list is that there are many artists whose best song was passed over in lieu of another. Just goofy to me. Edit: Also, not one single U2 song on the list. That alone makes it null and void. For a station that seems to play alternative music, that is a joke. No Sunday Bloody Sunday, With or Without You, Where the Streets Have No Name, Pride (In the Name of Love), I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, or New Years Day...Please!
  2. Nice review and pics. U2 is such an amazing live band. Can't wait for them to come to the U.S.
  3. ^ Ditto
  4. ^ I would have no problem voting for Green Day. IMO, they are incredibly talented at the music they make...pop-punk. Comparing a band like Green Day to a band like Radiohead is like comparing apples to oranges. It doesn't mean they are any less talented.
  5. Probably Radiohead. Are you really curious to see what people think? World of Music is a quasi-Radiohead forum. I already know what people will think.
  6. ^ Kind of, but not really. I was watching some footage and the circular jumbo tron makes it easy to see all the action. It's in a stadium, anyhow. Unless you are right up close, the artists always look like ants. I was not happy when I heard that they were playing stadiums, but I have become more excited as I have watched some of the video. I am approaching it more as a spectacle than anything else, and I certainly want to see it live.
  7. Cool, a review from Glastonbury. I was waiting to read about it in a magazine, but this is even better. I look forward to hearing about the other days :)
  8. Ultraviolet is amazing! I am also glad that they are playing Unforgettable Fire.
  9. Going to California - Led Zeppelin
  10. ^ Ouch! No disrespect, but that's not the greatest list of concerts I've ever seen.
  11. I like the long intros, too. Also, I really like "Disintegration" (the actual song) and "Plainsong". Plus, you get "Love Song" and "Fascination Street," which are both classics. The Cure does some songs that I don't care for (but nothing on the album Disintegration). I am drawn to the dreamy, romantic, dark sound that they have. Songs like Pictures of You. I like (don't love) the new album, but listen to a song like "Underneath the Stars." That's the classic Cure sound, and I love it. I also like the more pop oriented sound the Cure puts out. One of my favorite songs is "In Between Days," and I also love "Push" and "Friday, I'm in Love." They are very diverse, and that's why anyone who knows anything about the band knows that an overarching label such as Goth is not appropriate. It's only part of the picture.
  12. Haha...all this time I thought this thread was going to be about Bruce Springsteen...silly me :laugh3:
  13. ^ That's what I've been telling people on this board for some time. He's the best.
  14. ^ That's easy...."Disintegration."
  15. In my opinion, the Cure are one of the greatest bands of all-time. Wish is a really good album. High, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Friday I'm in Love, A Letter to Elise, and (my personal favorite) To Wish Impossible Things. Check out Disintegration - it is their best album IMO. As for people who insist on using labels, Goth is probably a fair label, but it is far too limiting. A song like "In Between Days" is a pure pop song, and the Cure have a number of them. The Cure have a unique sound, and they cannot really be lumped in with other groups. Robert Smith is amazing in terms of his delivery and lyrics. I love the Cure.
  16. Well, her musical taste can't be all bad. She likes R.E.M. And if anyone bashes R.E.M. for being unoriginal, I will have you flogged ;)
  17. ^ Haha...well don't feel bad. I think Bono should win this category. I obviously stand alone in this belief because his vote total is 1, which was my vote :) At least others have received multiple votes.
  18. ^ Haha. Well, I do understand being upset when you are held hostage. Nothing's worse than listening/watching something and all of a sudden music you hate comes on and you can't change the station in time. Or the remote control is just too far away so you endure. I get that one. But otherwise, just don't listen. I can't believe I am spending time on a Nickelback thread.
  19. ^ Yeah, I can see that. It's just like, whatever....who cares?
  20. I don't understand the hatred toward Nickelback. The lyrics aren't deep, the hooks are predictable, and the overall sound is highly produced. But I have heard Chad Kroeger admit that they are not looking to do anything ground breaking but, instead, just want to play some rock n' roll. What's the harm in that? It's not like they are trying to trick anyone. There is a part of me that loves cheap pop-rock. I don't want to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway on a sunny day listening to Pyramid Song. For me, there are times when I enjoy their music. Plus, I am sure they could care less whether a select audience dislikes their music. They sell millions of CDs in a time when music sales have dropped off dramatically.
  21. ^ I forgot about Brandon Flowers. I, too, think he is one of the better current frontmen. It is definitely a role he has grown into. I don't follow Placebo. They are not very big in the U.S. But MJK? I really like Tool and have seem them live. They put on a good show, but he is in the dark and stands in the back by the the drum kit. How can you be a great frontman if your not actually in "front?" It's actually in the title.
  22. ^ Yeah, I've seen all 4 choices live with their respective bands and, even though I am a big Radiohead fan, I prefer Chris Martin to Thom Yorke as a frontman. It has nothing to do with who I think is more talented or produces better records. Just watch the Live Aid performance with Queen. Freddie Mercury is larger than life and owns the stage/crowd. That's what makes a great frontman to me.

  24. As with all these questions, one's definition greatly impacts the response. My definition of a great frontman is someone who has a big persona and can perform magnificently in front of a stadium audience. Oddly, musical ability only plays a small role in what I consider a great frontman because I almost take it as a given that he/she is going to be extremely talented if entered in the conversation.
