:facepalm: Yeah, that pretty much sums up my thoughts on this thread.

Here's my review for Chris' tape. Before I start, I'd like to say how clever (and amusing) it was for you to name the tracks the way you did. :awesome: I was able to see some of the info, but it didn't affect my opinion of the tape any, so it's whatever. Anyway, here we go. 1. "Paranoid Android"-I LOL'd so hard when I realized this was actually "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall." Given that I pretty much took it as such, I'm going to assume this was a troll track and congratulate you for it. If not, well, you should still be happy that I got so much joy from it. 2. "Lick My Love Pump"-This was an interesting track. It consisted of what sounded like a foreign family having a dinner conversation with piano in the background. One of the speakers sounded like Jónsi to me, but unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that's not him. As unconventional as this track is, I really like it. 3. "Bitches Ain't Shit"-"Alright now. Shhh. I have the nicest surprise for you, but you first must wash your hands and get ready." :wtf: This turned out to be a bizarre story about a boy named Hip-Hop interspersed into an electronic track. "The flowers liked Hip-Hop, and Hip-Hop liked the flowers. He lived with his sister, Skip-Hop, and his brother, Slide-Hop." I was kinda WTF at first, but I like it because it's so different. It reminds me of Pogo, actually. 4. "Yellow"-We take a trip from electronic to folk. Even if it weren't from the album art that I saw, I would've probably thought this was Andrew Bird due to a comment Sara made in this thread about how he whistles. I've never really taken a listen to him before, but I quite like this. The track is really kinda cute. 5. "Barbie Girl"-This went back to electronic. I got kinda bored with this one, honestly, because it didn't really go much of anywhere. It layered a little bit, and it did change at one point (about halfway, I believe), but it went right back. It's not bad; it just didn't really appeal to me. Sorry. 6. "Some Say Love"-I know this one. It's "I'll Try Anything Once" by The Strokes. I've only gotten into them recently (from the last exchange, actually), but I rather like them. Somehow, Julian Casablancas reminds me of Alex Kapranos when he sings on this particular track. That's probably a stupid thing to say, but it's true. Anyway, yeah. Nice. 7. "I'm My Own Grandpa"-This is a more ambient/experimental track. It reminds me of Eksi Ekso, actually, which is good because I've been rather into them lately. I can't help but feel this sounds familiar. I'm not really sure why. Anyway, I like it. 8. "Barbie Girl"-It has this ambiguous and ambient intro. Then, acoustic guitar comes in and removes all uncertainty. This is a very nice and very calm instrumental number. I like it. 9. "Beautiful Day"-I feel the need to say right away that this was my favorite track on this whole tape. It grabbed my attention from the beginning and held all the way to the end. I saw the album art, and I was really excited. A friend of mine has talked a lot about Wye Oak, and now, I understand why. This song is amazing. It has nice texture, I like the jazz organ, and it's just something that I know I would listen to. This track is a home run. 10. "Fuck the Pain Away"-This one reminded me of Thom's solo work. It's probably the beats; they sound like something he would use. The track somehow seems to work for me. I'm not sure why. When the vocals came in, I was reminded of Björk. Is this her, by chance? Just a guess. 11. "Do They Know It's Christmas"-This contrasts completely with the previous track. It's a folky tune. It's so adorable! "Settle on your own, sweeping dust from stone, with a letter from home." It's so happy, it's almost corny. Understand that I mean that in a good way. It's just...cute. 12. "Sex and Candy"-It starts with acoustic guitar that continually loudens and softens, almost like it's timed. I like the contrast. Awww, clarient. How charming. I think that made me think about Sufjan Stevens for a moment, as he tends to do that in some of his music. It's not, though. Yay, piano. I like this one quite a bit. 13. "Macho Man"-This is actually "Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl" by Broken Social Scene. I remember this track being on a couple other mixtapes, if I'm not mistaken. I really should listen to more Broken Social Scene. It's not that I don't at all, but I forget about this band sometimes. 14. "Electric Feel"-Thank God this isn't really MGMT. I probably would've been irritated. The only problem I had with this track is that it was so short. I wanted to hear more. This ambient track serves as a very nice interlude. I approve. 15. "Poker Face"-I smiled upon first hearing this track. This begins with solid bass drum and acoustic guitar. "Come away with me. We'll find our home. We'll find our peace." This reminds me of Bon Iver, but it's not him. Justin Vernon's voice is a bit softer than the one I got on this song. The female backing vocals compliment the male ones. "I, I am a fool now, I am a fool now for you." I like it. 16. "Orange Crush"-It opens with drums. WTF at these vocals. D: Knowing this is U2 didn't help me at all. I've only heard a couple of tracks by them, but I don't remember Bono ever sounding like that. I know a lot of people here who like U2 (Michael went to see them in Anaheim on Saturday), and I don't mean to offend anyone, but Bono's singing pretty much killed this song for me. Sorry. 17. "Für Elise"-While I was initially disappointed that this wasn't "Für Elise," I did realize that you had a lovely track as a replacement. This sounds '60s to me. That's not a bad thing, mind you. The song in itself is actually quite cute. I can't help but smile as I listen to this. You picked an excellent closer. Here's my wrap-up. Chris, as usual, you have made an awesome tape. I strongly suggest that everyone else take a listen to it. I await the track listing now. :smiley:

The timing of the resurrection of this thread is uncanny. Just yesterday, I listened to the artist in question for the first time in 6 months, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Granted, I only ended up listening to one song, but hey, maybe I'm getting over it.

Talk to him about it. Talking solves so many problems. You say you're worried that it'll wreck your friendship. Back when I was in high school, I had this guy (who was one of my best friends at the time) who I fell for multiple times. In a two-year span, I told this guy that I liked him three times. THREE. Not once did he judge me for liking him, nor did he judge me for the fact that this happened so many times. He told me that while he was flattered and while he still viewed me as a friend, he didn't want a relationship with anyone. He just wasn't interested. Anyway, my point here is that if he's as great of a friend as you say he is (which he must be because, y'know, he's your best friend), he won't suddenly unfriend you. He'll talk with you about everything openly and be honest, and he won't judge you on those things. If he does, well, then he really wasn't as good of a person as you thought he was, and you should probably re-evaluate your friendship with him. But yeah. Talk to him. I know, it's scary. I've been down that road many times. You'll feel so much better, though, when it's all said and done. I hope this helps. Good luck. :hug:

Too true. I see people do it all the time. My former best friend was (and still is) the worst person about doing that. She'd always keep talking about how she was in love with some guy (who, by the way, was almost always impossible for her to be with in the first place) when she didn't even know him. She was hopeless. You can love someone with them loving you back. It's called unrequited love. It suuuuucks. Lust isn't necessarily sexual, although it is a lot of the time. You can feel lust for someone without wanting to have sex with them.

All this biology talk is reminding me why I am not a science major. SHEESH. :dizzy:
