  1. Thanks. Sorry to be dense...but did the band release them?
  2. Where did those lyrics come from on the Wiki??????
  3. Good <early> Morning from the U.S. BBC1 cued and ready to go!
  4. I'm definitely in the minority but I like the recorded version better. I find it more sonically interesting, as if they are using effects as instruments. I love that they aren't playing it safe. Good for them.
  5. Ridiculous. Just because they allowed Apple to pierce her ears does not necessarily mean they will cave on every issue. Truth is, pierced ears at 5 is not totally not out of the realm of reason. As mentioned, it's very commonplace in some cultures. Now, if they continue to cave to any tantrum, they will have problems. But there's also something to be said about teaching your kids that each event stands alone and some times the answer is "yes," and sometimes it's "no."
  6. I was watching an old interview (2005) on youtube and someone commented "LOL, Chris Martin is as high as a kite." Nope, 'fraid not. That's just Chris being Chris. However, I will say his eyes were extra wild during the interview. :laugh3:
  7. Most definitely with Chris. I love when they are being interviewed as a group and you can just see him practically biting off his tongue to give the others a chance to answer. But they often sit there, waiting for him to say something. I just love his boundless energy. I love his goofiness and that fact that although he is serious about his band, he can keep it in perspective. I don't watch/listen to interviews for information, I look to them for personality. And Chris sure has an abundance of personality!
  8. I cannot stop listening to the Pinkpop performance of this one. I just can't. And don't try and make me. :P
  9. Standing ovation! Maybe the Beatles should have remade "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "Love Me Do" over and over and over. It is also true that music is about time, place and where we are in our lives. I'm older than a lot of you, for sure, and I get so frustrated by my peers who are totally locked into the music they loved from ages 15-25 or so. It's like music stopped once they got settled into careers & adult life.
  10. Do we know how many albums they have left on their contract with EMI? If they are nearing the end of their contract it wouldn't bode EMI well to piss them off. They are one of the few bands that still sells albums in meaningful numbers. And even if EMI has some control, I cannot imagine Chris & Co. saying, "OK, let's write some poppy shit to make them happy." Whether I like the song or not, I have to believe THEY are proud of it. I'd be really disappointed to think they'd put out something they honestly think is crap to please the record company.
  11. I'd be surprised. I think they have reached a level where they are not record company tools.
  12. I have a long standing contract with myself that I don't listen to leaks. But I have been listening to the live stuff obsessively without thinking twice. I don't think it will ruin the album for me. If fact, the live stuff is making me more anxious for the studio releases. I mean, I listen the albums I like over & over & over without growing tired of them so I don't think the live stuff will matter. I think this is really personal, though. You know how you react to new/old music.
  13. ^Agreed. Any band worth their salt want to grow, create and test their collective talents. I'd be leery of one that rests on their laurels, never straying from a proven formula (that's for the manufactured 'boy bands', etc.) With that said, it should be expected that their fan base would change. They should expect to lose some fans, while gaining others. That's the nature of art. Bands with longevity manage to keep solid numbers, but they aren't necessarily the same fans. As the band changes, so do their fans. I love this quote from the drummer of Interpol (my favorite band for the past 10 years) that addresses this very thing: Sam Fogarino: "We're just trying to forge our own path.... to do what feels right to us - all that are into it are invited to explore with us. All that do not care to join, there's many other paths to choose from." 9/2010
  14. Thanks for sharing your experience. Rest up & feel better!
  15. Yeah, Chris needs to get home before the veggie paella gets cold. :D
  16. What with these people? Haven't they been obsessively listening to the new songs since Friday? They should know the titles and most of the lyrics by now!
  17. Thanks for all the birthday wishes from coldplaying.com. My son will be impressed! I can't keep up with cake-watching, blog watching & coldplaying watching! Too much multi-tasking!

I know nothing about the business of music but I'd suspect that the old forumlas are dead. Used to be the record company made most of the money on record sales and the band made the money on shows & merchandising. In the digital age, the record company can't break even on sales alone so I wonder if they now get part of the gate also?
  19. I think this is going to become a live favorite. I'll bet Johnny's riff is going to become a Coldplay classic, like the Viva chant and the Clocks piano intro.
