Biggest Disappointment and Surprise of Mylo Xyloto
Surprise: Easily Don't Let it Break Your Heart. I mean, the lyrics are nothing special (though not TERRIBLE by Coldplay standards) and the title is still horrendous, but the music is beautiful. Loving the wall-of-sound production. Up in Flames is also far better than I was expecting based on the studio version. Disappointment: U.F.O. is kind of...boring. The melody is completely forgettable. Doesn't stand up to other acoustic Coldplay tracks. Hurts Like Heaven's first guitar solo has far too much reverb as well (though I actually like the robot harmonies).

Sounds like The Killers.
Not really. And I'm a pretty big Killers fan. Sounds like straight up X&Y-era Coldplay to me. Great song though.

How does the album work as a concept record?
Everything up to this point makes sense. Here's the thing...they don't solve their problems in Princess of China. That's where their problems peak and they finally break up. Up in Flames is the male protagonist (Mylo) reflecting on the relationship which they just ended ("so it's over..."). Near the end, Mylo decides he wants to do whatever it takes to save the relationship ("can we pour some water on (the flames)?"), and that's where A Hopeful Transmission comes in. It builds into Don't Let it Break Your Heart, where they finally kiss and make up, and Up With the Birds is the finale/walk into the sunset.

The PROS & CONS of "Princess of China" (plus 1-10 sliding poll)
Pros: - Great melody. Catchy as all get-out. - The crackling synths were a nice touch. The main synth-line (Rihanna's first "oh") is fantastic as well. - Rhythm section is super tight on this song, definitely one of Coldplay's best ever. - Rihanna's voice sounds great. So does Chris's. But I can barely hear it, which leads me into... Cons: - I don't have a problem with Rihanna singing such a large portion of the song. HOWEVER, the duet sections don't really sound like duets because Chris's voice is mixed too low. - I'm not sure anybody else hears it, but I feel like after each measure there's a very slight pause in the background synths that makes it sound like the track is skipping or something. It might just be me, but it's driving me crazy. - Lyrics. 'Nuff said. - Here's my biggest problem with the song...the synth scream isn't nearly loud enough. After the quiet bridge with the electronic flourishes, that scream should have hit me full force, loud enough to knock me off my feet, before the main theme stomps back in. The scream is far too quiet. Overall, a pretty good song. Musically it's brilliant, but there are a few production blunders that I would have fixed. I probably would have redone the whole lyric as well, but the same goes for pretty much every Coldplay song, so...

My favorite song on the album
Didn't catch me first listen, but I really like it now. Yeah, it sounds a lot like Things I Don't Understand. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I still wish it had a different title/lyric, but whatever. You can barely hear Chris's voice anyway.

Princess of China: Worst Coldplay song ever?
You seem to all be forgetting about a little ditty called WHAT IF. Easily the worst Coldplay song ever. Anyway, I think that hating on this song just because it doesn't use "real" instruments is just...stupid. Ignorant. Piano and guitar aren't the only "real" instruments, you know. Synths are perfectly good instruments, and I for one refuse to dismiss a song based on their usage. Now, whether or not the synths are used WELL...that's a different story.

Whatever happened to these?
Don't get me wro-wro-wro-wro-wrong, I'm really enjoying the album...I'm just disappointed that these lyrics (WHICH WERE ON THE FREAKIN' COVER) didn't even make an appearance.

Whatever happened to these?
Whatever happened to these lyrics? The two of us, we drove A speeding ghost and a shadow Luminous the road to the sea We swam from the shallows To bottle lightning’s glow Where we’re gonna run God only knows Better than any lyrics on the album, and the they don't even put them ON the album.

What do you think?
Should have just been part of Every Teardrop, instead of its own track. Mildly interesting.

Ian Brown/Stone Roses
The Stone Rose's debut is one of my favorite albums ever, no competition. I Wanna be Adored is easily in my top ten 80's tracks. Wasn't a huge fan of The Second Coming, but I'm still stoked!
