  1. I actually think it wouldn't be hard - the first 2 minutes of the song is pretty atmospheric and choppable - not that I want them to. Same goes for the end of the song. That gets you to about 7 minutes already.
  2. Agreed. Infinity Sign isn't bad but it's just not as *developed* as LIB seemed to be, or for a genre-analogous track, Chinese Sleep Chant. LIB had an excellent energy, and such an excellent bassline in particular. I thought DQ or LIB could've fit decently well on EL since that album was part non-Western music, part-VLV-inspired, part-stripped-back, part stadium-rock somehow - thinking of songs like Orphans or Arabesque.
  3. Where in Overtura does it show up?
  4. I would like to post album opinions soon but first would like to vent that I missed the verified fan presale deadline by 15 min thinking it was 11:59 et instead of 9 pm. Sigh.
  5. *pulls out hair* my autographed CD shipped yesterday but UPS says it wonโ€™t arrive until Monday. MONDAY
  6. Or they could be reproducing 4 variations of their signatures or something. Also one could rub the ink and see if it smears?! Also is there a proshot of this Berlin performance everyone is alluding to?
  7. Can someone explain the plot of the video? There was a LOT going on.
  8. Chinese Sleep Chant heads in that direction a little though I guess shorgaze is its own genre too. it also occurred to me Bani Adam is quasi instrumental. If you heard their Apollo performance a couple weeks ago thereโ€™s a cool instrumental with Coleman Barks reading poetry - similar vibe with atmospheric guitar!
  9. It could be cool to have a serious instrumental which isnโ€™t common for Coldplay! Something like Explosions in the Sky or Sigur Ros. Only other ones might be LIT, Sunrise, MX, colour Spectrum, and O.
  10. Where? ? I am anti leak just because it doesnโ€™t seem to be what the band intends for how we enjoy the music. I listened to Overtura (many times), the released songs, and Human Heart since the band seems to want that for us. Am also curious when preorders arrive. I ordered the autographed CD but normally I always buy through a local record store so Iโ€™m not used to this!
  11. Is this autographed copy from Warner legit? Because I already pre-ordered it LOL. Coldplay sent a text about it. https://store.warnermusic.com/music-of-the-spheres-autographed-cd.html
  12. Oddly I feel the same. AROBTTH is somehow a bit flat and claustrophobic? I think it's particularly evident on listening to the live version of Amsterdam vs album. On the album there's like 2-3 guitar tracks at the end that add some texture but honestly don't make the song better. Several of the non-singles aren't amazing in this way - esp A Whisper, AROBTTH. GPASUYF feels like it should have a bigger crescendo at the end but it doesn't. I will say the Scientist is pretty perfectly mixed/mastered in my opinion. Also re X&Y, I totally feel Guy. The worst offender is the Hardest Part, which has that ages long fadeout. When Chris and Will (and full band that one time during AHFOD tour) play it live they always shorten that a ton. They also started shortening Speed of Sound starting in the Viva tour and even more in the MX tour onwards. If you could cut down on the Hardest Part, Speed of Sound, and the end of A Message I bet you could at least get X&Y beneath an hour without cutting songs. One thing I do love about X&Y's production is the SYNTHS! Which Brian Eno was partially responsible for on Low at least. But I just love all the slightly detuned spacy synths. It EXACTLY captures the mood, doesn't feel like "too many layers" like in MX or AHFOD, yet very much help bring out the pianos and guitars. Square One, SOS, Talk, A Message, Swallowed in the Sea, basically the whole album except for Fix You and TKC are all amazing for this.
  13. Yes, I'm using the word "mistake" loosely. It's more that there's 2 guitar tracks on top of each other, and you'd normally expect them to be the same so the fact that they're not implies either a mistake or something intentional. My GUESS is that Jonny meant to make them identical, made a mistake on 1, but he or the band chose to keep both. But I agree - dissonant and organic in a cool way. The live version loses that dissonance but obv still sounds good.
  14. I agree on a lot of these points and think your framing is a good direction to talk about these things! -I'll add that UATW is one of their best songs ever but the production is so-so, with the notable flaw that Will's voice is mixed quite low. I actually have less of a problem with UFO. I'd also add that HLH and Charlie Brown are a bit weird from a production perspective, for me the most noticeable thing being that on HLH, Jonny's 1st guitar solo gets all muddy and almost sounds incorrect when he does the big descent (as compared to the live version). -I actually disagree about GS in that I think it sounds watery on purpose. Most of that album is produced exactly as it's supposed to be because everything minus ASFOS is supposed to feel underwater. I think on Oceans on the first instance of "got to find yourself alone in this world" Chris is intentionally going in and out because it sounds like someone singing at the crests of waves. (see what I did there?!) -I also agree about AHFOD though I find the title track pretty impeccable. Army of One and AOAL have the vocal samples a little bit too loud. -MOTS *is* very clean and punchy. Same goes for Orphans by the way, where you can hear Guy's bassline really clearly even without headphones. I do dislike though on the mixing for MOTS how low Jonny's guitar lines are except for in Coloratura. But otherwise MOTS is quite nice. If you go back and listen to ETIAW or Paradise or HLH there are just SO MANY layers of synths and stuff and it's a bit much compared to what you get in HP.
  15. Strong agree! One thing I was just reflecting on is that I was about to declare an opinion that Up&Up is a better song in some ways, particularly because Jonny's guitar solos (esp the first one) are so unrestricted / it really goes somewhere and isn't repetitive. But you can make the same argument that Chris has virtuostic levels of piano playing on Coloratura. It's nice to see each member just go REALLY crazy. So that's just a nice thing. By the way one other random observation - in both live performances of Coloratura, Jonny on the second line of his solo plays the note that we were all calling a mistake (the E above the B). Makes the live solo sound a bit different than the studio version where a double tracking of his guitar superimposes a D and E on top of each other.
  16. I'm hearing standard tuning but with a capo on the 1st fret. It's likely standard because on the Bbm minor chords you can hear the Bb note in the top of the chord which usually wouldn't be there if he were using a "Chris" tuning. That said, if you wanted to try to do the song with a Chris tuning, you might try something like: Eb - Ab - Db - Gb - Bb - D I think Charlie Brown is in this tuning or similar.
  17. I came here to do the same!!!!!!!! Putting aside Howard Stern's extreme level of smugness, some fun observations here: -Jonny adds a ton of texture at the beginning and other instrumental interludes. Also he has a huge smile with Chris when they both realize they haven't made any mistakes. ? -Guy's and Will's vocals bassline are SO TIGHT. -Jonny plays ebow and slide the replicate that oboe part in the middle of the song and it sounds amazing. Also his guitar solo hits so hard (though I think he was slightly out of tune, which is easy to do when using a slide) -There's a couple new Jonny guitar parts such as during the 5/4 section on the ebow and harmonizing the vocals on "all the satellites imbue" on the final chorus. -Chris plays a lot of the harp parts on the piano and it is some skillful stuff! My only complaint is that they used Coldplay's normal live piano sound which is a bit too bright/clanky for the song relative to the album version.
  18. I'd argue Church, Everyday Life, and Trouble in Town are all great stadium songs. And I imagine they'll always do the B/C stage performances, which will enable things like Daddy and Guns to get played. I'm also still processing what I feel about My Universe but I agree with an earlier post that basically said "ASFOS is a bit better." Coldplay has been very adept at adapting other mainstream trends from other artists: -Viva la Vida = picks up on the heavy string use in early Arcade Fire -ASFOS = the Aviici formula but with more piano, guitar, and bass -AOAL = very much the style of mid 2010s songs that had a crapload of vocal samples as part of the "instrumentation", yet with some amazing guitar/bass. -SJLT = the Chainsmokers formula but again with more piano, guitar, and bass So it shouldn't be unexpected that MU is a bit of a 1980s-inspired but pretty unique track. My biggest complaint though is that it has less of a musical "journey" than the aforementioned songs. VLV builds into a huge singalong, ASFOS and SJLT have some of the most powerful beat drops AND some amazing guitarwork by Jonny. MU sort of...goes nowhere in my mind since the verses and choruses are very similar...the only break/transition is really to the outro. Especially compared to Coloratura which just came out and goes about 5 different places. All that said, the BTS parts are great, the song is catchy, the outro iis really well produced and has some cool instrumentation even if it's more synthy than it is the normal Coldplay formula. I guess I just wish it would employ some of the tools that came into play in previous Coldplay songs.
  19. I am still teaching it to myself but here's a quick starting point for you; apologies for any mistakes and I'm not sure what your skill level is but: Intro: G-D-Bm-G D-Gm/D-Bm/D-D7/D G/D-Gm/D-D Verse (play only a D in the bass/left hand) D-Gm/D-Bm/D-D7/D G/D-Gm/D-D x2 Chorus G - G - D - Bm Am - G - Gm D - Bm (with a G#) - G - Emsus4 Verse 2 D-Gm/D-Bm/D-D7/D G/D-Gm/D-D Chorus 2 G - G - D - Bm G - G - D Am - G - Gm D - Bm (with a G#) - G - Emsus4 Interlude D (with a G#) Bm - E7 - [chord I haven't figured out yet] - G F# Glockenspiel/flute part Bm - G - F# x4 5/4 waltz part G - A - Bm - F#m x2 the piano bit before the guitar solo G - G - F# - F# Guitar solo G - G - D - Bm G - G - D - F#m Final chorus G - G - D - Bm G - G - A - A7 G - G - D - Bm G - G - A/E - A/E [D - Bm (with a G#) - G - Emsus4] x2 or 3 D - Dsus4 a few times for the "poets prophesy above" part D (with a G#) for the harpy bit Outro C - G/B - Bb - D/A - G#dim7 - G - finish on D
  20. Is this concert posted somewhere???
  21. As run of the mill as the setlist was, Jonny and Chris do a fun new jam at the end of Magic that's a bit more upbeat than previous versions!!!!
  22. In case anyone missed it, the band posted a video of Will rehearsing for Coloratura with some fun drums and his singing! Live performance sounds IMMINENT!!! https://www.instagram.com/p/CTaJRDpIQCt/
  23. Is anyone listening to the broadcast today? It seems like the "exclusive live performance" songs are just peppered among various album tracks, B-sides, and other live performances. Good choices by the way on the diversity of tracks. Many B-sides like Things I Don't Understand, I Ran Away, etc. But the way the live songs are is super difficult to follow and annoying but I've so far heard these performances: -Clocks, with just Chris -VLV with just Chris -Yellow, normal version -Orphans, interestingly with few or no backing tracks so you can really hear Chris and Will singing together. I'm also noticing POTP snippet is being used as Sirius's transition music alongside HP, Coloratura, MU, and some other existing songs.
