  1. Think of the world "xylophone" as an above poster said. It's not pronounced xy-low-phone, but xy-luh-phone. I bet each member of the band will pronounce it differently.
  2. Not going to lie, the way they arranged the title like that bugs the crap out of me. But they did it for a reason...I wonder what it is.
  3. Something like Politik, I reckon. I'm of the idea that Paradise's name is ironic...I bet it'll be about the perception of a place or idea as paradise which in reality sucks the soul or something. Perhaps, it gives an outsider's perspective of what we humans think to be paradise.
  4. This came straight from the Whoracle!
  5. Ideally LP5 will be better than everything ever, especially if they have more stuff that's similar to MTM (not necessarily in sound, but the song did the best job of pushing their sound in a new direction while holding on to what made them great in AROBTTH). I don't find it very easy to make this kind of a comparison though. I have a feeling that LP5 will be the best album thus far, the way that Viva was very coherent and well-put together with great songs on it. LP5 will obviously have a theme, and I think everything will come together that makes it the best album to listen to. In terms of individual songs, I like UATW, MTM, and HLH more than anything they've ever done. Owned jajajajaja. I liked the artwork from Viva...the costumes not too much.
  6. I'm almost sure that's the piano intro to LIFL. Not the other way round.
  7. You might be right juanma, but I hope you're not because doing a live-video would be saying no to a LOT of creative ideas, many of which are in this thread alone. +1
  8. They've been doing this since Glastonbury...another poster said it was applying the chorus effect to the guitar, which I agree with. The effect basically takes what is played and replays it on top of what's being played but at minute differences in tune, which makes it sound like one thing is being played (or sung) by a chorus and thusly sound more full. Not technically a backing track so much as it is a clever guitar effect. And yes, it sounds great!!! :D
  9. Especially when your balls disappear.
  10. ^Regarding the "overwhelming" I think that is more related to the sound mixing at individual concerts. Sometimes the backing tracks are very clear, other times not, only because the technicians need to the really intricate job of making all the instruments/vocals sound balanced. It's pretty variable with the Scientist...I don't have a lot of videos to back me up at the moment, but the volume of the strings is really variable. ^^And "pretending to play" isn't really pretending because you can tell that when Chris or Jonny play the instrument that is on the backing track, THAT goes on top/takes over the backing track. You'll know what I mean if you listen to the instrumental bit after the 1st chorus of Lovers in Japan live at BBC 2008 because Chris makes a mistake. If that makes sense. Otherwise I agree with your points though...epic bump btw. If I haven't said in this thread already, one thing I've realized recently is that they really DON'T need backing tracks to sound "big" or "stadium-ish".....only listen to Everything's Not Lost, Life is For Living, GPASYUF, the end of Amsterdam...
  11. For some reason, I thought I was two hours ahead, not behind. Needless to say, I was very confused to see the Vaccines instead of Coldplay.
  12. !!! Everything I write is in the key of Db..... ... ... it also turns out everything I write = A Message.
  13. Based on what we've heard so far, we DO need a couple more piano songs to balance things out. But certainly, a good stripped song is in order. I'd love if they did something like High Speed since it was very space-y of a song. Like MTM! Honestly though, I don't want another Amsterdam, where it's just piano for a long time and then full band at the end. I'd rather have something like Politik, Daylight, Clocks, etc. :wink3::wink3::wink3: The bassline of Major Minus will have to do though. Indeed! Although I don't really think the Scientist and Green Eyes can exactly be classified together. :p
  14. But but but....there are two channels...woeifjaowiejf. Not to mention Coachella had 3 channels.
  15. ^I remember that...only thing I can think of (that I can dig out quickly) is Chris's claim at Liverpool Christmas gig that because of Will, they're "the hardest soft rock band in the world." THIS x1000. Actually, Jonny still does use some cool effects but it's never quite the same as the album version. :(
  16. Um, no webcast of Lolla?!?!?!?!?!?! :/
  17. You're making us spend TWICE AS MUCH TIME for the SAME BLOODY MATERIAL. Ah well....I'm too young/inexperienced to have seen the days of when double posting had any real consequence. :P I was there for dial-up internet though! :P:lol: Anyhow....everyone else has said what I was thinking. They could release Us Against the World as a one-song album and I'd still blow 15 quid just for it. And if you really get down to it, I'd argue all of the songs are comparatively more stripped down than any of their Viva counterparts, with the exception of ETIAW, and even then, I'd argue it's less "big" if only because the guitar line is so prominent compared to Jonny's inconsequential guitar parts in Viva la Vida.
  18. +1, it might not work for you, but this is my primary method of writing music. I tend to come up with cool one-to-two liners, and then while I'm on the spot I write an extra couple lines to make it a verse. But for the most part, when I write, I have a number of pages that each is its self contained "one-liners that I come up with" page, which eventually become songs. DAMN, I came up with a cheesy eyes-sky comparison line.... :embarrassed: BUT IT'S GOT KIND OF A PUN SO IT'S ORIGINAL. I think. :veryangry2: The first time I tried to write the instrumental to a song I just ended up with a faster version of Politik. Which is one thing to be aware of - you'll most likely end up coming up with words or music that someone else has already done...but that's okay, because at that point, you're only at square one and whatever you do with it will become very unique once you apply your own touch. :) Yep! An idea I got from the Twisted Logic version of the Scientist is to play a bunch of songs I like backwards. For the most part, a chord progression that sounds good will sound good even when reversed, but completely different. So do weird little things like this and you'll never know what you might find!

^Is that link legit considering the user was banned? TDOYAM sounds brilliant though. I heard the TIOBI vibe too because of the predominance of falsetto on every line. But aside from that, I don't think it's fair to call it not-good-enough or too similar to Oasis. This is a brand new song with some great lyrics... it's a very matured spin on the youthful despair in songs like Fade Away and Half the World Away. And somehow, I find the song very romantic even though it doesn't seem to be specifically a love song. :)
  20. OH OOPS. I'm so sorry, I confused you, Samuel, and tarheelsrule. :embarrassed: You have to forgive me, it's 3:30 AM here. :embarrassed:
  21. Jaja no worries I didn't until fairly recently. UNC = University of North Carolina (as evidenced by Samuel's avatar) and they have a rivalry of epic proportions with nearby Duke University...so the fact that I saw "Duke" graffiti (even though I live on the exact opposite coast of the US), his hilarious HLH graffiti, and the fact that he likes the UNC Tar Heels......it's an ironic combination no?
  22. ^I lol'd mate. :D :D :D Actually, I saw "Duke" graffiti'ed on a train bridge once...and it set off HLH in my head. How appropriate though, I take it you're a UNC person? :p
