  1. No, not because we know the song's going to end, but because it's just absolutely beautiful. That piano and Chris's voice....redeems the crappier parts beyond belief. In fact, everything from the moment Jonny joins is pretty much epic. Seriously though, THAT PIANO. Which troubles me, because it looked like, based on the Paris debut on the song, Chris may be standing up for this song. Hopefully this isn't the case because there's so much piano in the song...and if they make all of that backing track I will be very annoyed. :veryangry2:
  2. Lotus Flower and Paradise aren't very comparable songs, but I guess that wasn't the point of this thread. Lotus Flower and TKOL is in general kind of "dull", but I love the whole album actually. I'm such a weirdo (and a creep). Paradise IS hugely catchy...in terms of pop/rock-ness it does a great job. And it's not as overblown in synth as ETIAW. The combination of these factors made Paradise a fun song on first listen which I didn't get on ETIAW. However, the chorus kind of kills the song for me. Everything on TKOL you need to listen to a whole bunch of times to appreciate, which is a mixed blessing because then you can like it all without guilt, but in the end, it may not be as "fun" to listen to because it takes a lot more effort to get a reward. That said, Coldplay really needs to tap into its AROBTTH and VLV veins because both of those albums balance catchiness and musical finesse perfectly - looking back, Clocks is such a catchy tune yet I don't think anyone here will say it's stupid or poppy or anything. (which people probably WERE saying back in the day)
  3. It's a reference to an Alexander Pope quote. :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_breaks_a_butterfly_upon_a_wheel%3F The only reason I know this is because the quote is used in the Oasis song Falling Down. :embarrassed:
  4. They've changed up IMP every time they play it...in this tour Jonny does a lot of new stuff on the guitar for it. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Paradise replace IMP for one or two years and then IMP will seem fresh and nostalgic as you said.

WOW If I Had a Gun and What a Life...both epic tracks. Noel's lyrics....just....

Is there an album version of If I Had a Gun??

Wow, What a Life sounds amazing! Better than TDOYAM (and I loved that song). It really reminds me of something off X&Y, so I'm with you Melwen about that White Shadows comparison. And I don't think anything will stop Noel from performing a handful of Oasis songs. And of course he'll sing Liam songs too - he already has with Wonderwall, Fade Away, Married With Children, It's Good To Be Free....admittedly most of the Liam songs he sings are B-sides though. I imagine he'd not sing Acquiesce though. That would be rather sad to see actually.
  8. Actually, Just is pretty slow. It's just loud. :p I think one of their fastest songs is this...I LOVE the green lights. <3 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naCAdshYVTA][HD] Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling Into Place (Live @ Saitama Super Arena - Oct 5, 08 - Tokyo, Japan) - YouTube[/ame]
  9. I think this song lends itself well to a video because of the whole wedding story. Very good imagery, I say. "clutching to pots of gold," "Once upon a time on the same side..", "could've had a castle" etc.
  10. Every Guy is a Family Guy!
  11. YOU'RE THE TARGET I'M AIMING AT! <(^__^<) Or alternatively, did you attempt to return an item, and the cashier told you, "I'm not gonna take it back."
  12. Honestly, I don't hear it at all. My understanding of the song is not thorough, but here's what we have: POC: Am - Dm or Am - Cmaj7 - Dm (main riff, verses) C - Dm (the you could be a princess part) Dm - G - Am (lalalala) Am - G - possibly a Dm - Am (outro) Up a half step? Bbm - Dbm...etc HLH: Bb - Eb (verse) F - Eb - Bb (prechorus) Bb - Eb (instrumental bit) F - Eb - Bb (chorus) Bb - Eb (solo) So on... F - Eb - Bb - Dm - Eb - Bb (the whoa oah part) Bb - Eb (outro) Basically, neat idea. But no, I completely disagree with you rafael. ON THE OTHER HAND, POC has some of the same lyrical structures, like the "got to go, got to go" vs "it's so cold so cold". Oh and yes, LIJ and Lost are pretty similar based ONLY on chord progression. But chord patterns get pretty similar in rock music.
  13. THIS IS AMAZING. To get you in the mood for that Cydonian patio!
  14. It's probably both / deliberately ambiguous. In terms of an alien, I see eye sockets and teeth.
  15. Every troll is a terrorist! I propose we make this a game where the latter noun must be used in the next title (see how I went "troll" to "troll"?)
  16. I think a lot of people in this thread think Noel and Liam are the same person...
  17. The only instrument I can really discern is the tack piano, bass, and drums. The rest I don't even know what to call. The 2:15 "flutes" sound like they could be xylophone but distorted or more synthy sounding (kind of like the noises in the ambiance of HLH). Oh, and why does everyone call the main riff a "synth scream". What is that supposed to be? I always thought synth scream referred to the thing at 2:22. But whatever that is, it sounds AMAZING. That's my favourite moment of the song jeje. And, I still understand the argument that it sounds like it's off VLV. The drum rhythm and tempo is very similar to Violet Hill. Fairy-tale imagery, big sound, synthesizers. It's all VLV to me. Not to say it's not a good track, or that it won't make sense in the context of the new album.
  18. Timewarp, if you look at the UATW tab I posted, you can see that there's a "2nd guitar" part, which is all the chords in standard tuning......but it just doesn't sound as good as it is in Chris's tuning/thumb chords. I write my tabs as left to right = closest-to-you to farthest from you, when looking at the guitar while playing it. I hope that makes sense.
  19. 3/6, and 12/9 in DDMM though.
  20. ^WHAT. :( Moving to Mars is one of my favourite songs ever. And I think bdevil fits it with the story decently, the idea that somebody is tearing you from your loved ones. And I really like the Up in Flames phoenix idea. Redemption and stuff like that could certainly be a theme.
  21. I really like this theory. I have a feeling that this actually IS plausible if we have scenario like this: they're designing the cover art of Photoshop, and the text box they make is too big to fit the words on two lines, and then someone spots the "oxyl", which is the most overt reference to something else. But of course that would suggest they knew what the title would be right away...and we still have no idea HOW they came up with those two words, even though we now know that they hold a lot of potential meaning.
  22. They DID say "bass heavy"...even though Clocks is mostly remembered for its piano riff, the whole song really relies on the bass.
  23. Ahoy, is there a stream of Outside Lands? :embarrassed: My friend and I really want to listen.
