  1. "Life goes on it gets so heavy." One of the best lines in Back to the Future is, "that's heavy", and Marty has to explain this phrase to 1955-Doc Brown. So perhaps, this album is about an outsider/alien from the future who speaks a different language that looks like ours but doesn't make sense to us. And this alien is here to explain to us what things like "that's heavy" or "Mylo Xyloto" or "M.M.I.X." mean, or shouldn't mean. /random thoughts at 3 AM.
  2. Actually, A Message goes Ebm - Db - Ab, and Paradise goes Gm - Bb - F - C. :p
  3. But see, Lost is the other way around - the vanilla version DOESN'T have the guest, while POC has the guest straightaway. Which is weird. But this could be right.
  4. I can hear Jonny in VLV alright. It's more clear in live versions though. It's subtle but still adds to it a lot. And of course, he plays the strings in the first half of the song (live). Paradise...similar story, but he does get the solo now. Jonny will probably play the synth strings for the first part of the song. Actually, I'm secretly hoping most of the string parts become guitar solos for Jonny. But all the other songs, Jonny is the driving force. Even ETIAW centers around Jonny's riffs, I would argue, except for the first 45 or so seconds which just has synth and acoustic guitar.
  5. Very similar sliding-entry, repetition, and guitar effects...so yes. And the chord progression is superficially similar. But the actual melody itself is pretty similar to MTM. Pretty cool though. :)
  6. Oh, and if you're going to make an argument about how bad the lyrics are, at least get the lyrics right. Just saying. Bury me in armour, When I'm dead and hit the ground, My nerves are poles that unfroze. I don't really understand why you think the lyrics are getting worse. UATW and VH are pretty solid by any measure. ETIAW/Paradise...not so much. But there are still some good gems in both, and they're hardly indicative of the lyrics we're getting this era. Which are just as good if not better than before.
  7. Is it me or is this version out of tune??
  8. It's pretty slow at iTunes, which I'm guessing will be close to the final speed. But I actually like it even when it's ridiculously rushed. Rock Am Ring is also pretty fast, and I just love that feeling of.......what is most comparable to skydiving or biking down a hill.
  9. I'd probably just gush about CB, HLH, UATW, MTM, MM...the usual.
  10. See: The King of Limbs, Kid A. :p
  11. A pretty good prediction, actually.
  12. Given Oracle's last statements, this song is "not good enough" without Rihanna, and it seems impractical for her to ALWAYS be with Coldplay just for one song. Unless they tour together. Would that be a good thing? Who knows? What are your thoughts? Coldplay performing the song without her? Or doing a different version (an acoustic one perhaps?!) Or having Rihanna ALWAYS there?
  13. I listened to the studio version for the first time after kind of hating it, and I've discovered...it sounds...just right. Fancy that. Anyone else revisiting this song and enjoying it? Still hating the vocals?
  14. The title makes me think of A Message...so I'm sticking by that. :p

  16. I like this name too...it would have been hysterical if Coldplay named LP5 UWTB given that Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds comes out the week before.

Kill For a Dream is pretty good. :)
  18. I don't find it catchy so much as annoying. It can be kind of neat and artful, but after already doing the stutter in Major Minus and ETIAW, it's just a bit excessive now. The same goes for the "ooohhh's." It was cool at the end of the Scientist or Viva la Vida, even that one bit in HLH. Paradise just seems to mix what was good about other songs and then overdoes it - strings, oh's, catchiness...everything. Which I guess is the excess that is present in a lot of pop music. I mean, the chorus of this song is one word repeated way too many times. That's my problem with the song...that said, I still like it better than a lot of stuff...
  19. Of course, I just wished I was a little more intellectual to have known the quote beforehand. All in all, I think the lyrics to this song are good, if not better than ETIAW. But that's because I think of the whole "para para para" thing as part of the music-scape and not the actual words. :p
  20. Us Against the World would be pretty epic and fitting, although perhaps a bit less inspired. I would have enjoyed Major Minus, A Hopeful Transmission, and ETIAW too. ETIAW may be stupid, but so is "VLVoDAAHF" (actually I just find the second half of VLV's title kind of stupid to add....well, in retrospect I really like the title but at the time it seemed unnecessary and long).

  22. I feel like I'm going to duplicate this post a lot but.... Us Against the World Charlie Brown Hurts Like Heaven Major Minus There. We know at least 1/3 of the album will be good to brilliant. Actually, the studio version of MM is kind of wonky but I'm banking on it getting a new mix. Edit: MTM rocks too, except it's not on the album. :(
  23. Adele or Florence Welch...that choice tore me up. Here's the kicker for me. :) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTS7PF4ed78]Paul Weller & Adele - chasing pavements live - YouTube[/ame] But yeah, I really wish it would've been another British artist.
  24. ^Yeah sorry to be a little trollish, but the last 15 seconds DESERVES its own thread. Yes, I'm a fangirl of high specificity!!! Oh, and that string bridge after the first chorus is pretty cool too. :p
