  1. ^ Was Midnight really a single though? I always thought it served more as a teaser of sorts  Usually we only get two singles ahead of time. Maybe announce a tour and then drop HFAW a week or two before Dec. 4? . . . I don't remember how far ahead of the album we usually get our second single
  2. It's close, may not quite make it
  3. Okay but is anyone else excited that we have at least two 4:30+ songs on AHFoD? We haven't had multiple songs of that length since, like, X&Y
  4. Great article, although the fact that Chris stated they're breaking away from the concept of being a rock band really makes me sad. Coldplay the rock band is the band I fell in love with all those years ago, and I fear that Coldplay the pop band simply won't be able to compare. I don't want them to remake ARoBttH or Viva or X&Y or anything like that, but what I do want to have is another solid, quality album with great instrumentation, great lyrics, and a great message and atmosphere. They can go pop or electronic or whatever the heck they want, but once those things start to slip in quality then it's time for them to start rethinking what they need to do. Sadly, I've already associated a more pop-y sound with diminishing quality (see MX and GS), so hearing that they may be headed even faster in that direction makes me fear that my love for this wonderful band may be snuffed out :( Sorry for the depressing rant, but I'm not feeling good about Chris's statement
  5. I feel like the amount of time spent writing a song is directly disproportional to how good the song winds up being. The ones that just come out of a spur-of-the-moment burst of inspiration are usually excellent, at least in Coldplay's case See: Clocks Also, isn't the reason Japan usually has bonus tracks have something to do with it being cheaper to have an album shipped from outside the country than it does to buy it inside and so they need an extra incentive?
  6. Okay but Everglow is such a good title, guys I could see this one being either a slow piano ballad or an ambient song like Midnight but with even moar bass to get the Xylobands going
  7. Coldplay and Noel are far and away my top two favorite artists. Just the thought of the two of them collaborating makes me want to cry. I'm already calling that whatever song he's on is going to be my favorite off AHFoD--especially if it sounds even remotely like anything off Chasing Yesterday.
  8. I can't remember the last time something I read made me so sad :( I understand that people, tastes, goals, etc. change . . . but Chris saying that honestly feels like a punch in the gut
  9. I'm liking this song more and more every time I listen to it. It went from about a 4/10 on my first listen to about a 7/10 now. Loving it. As for lyrics, I agree with what others are saying in that they are, once again, somewhat lacking. After having at least half of them stuck in my head at some point today, however, I've decided that there are some really good lines stuck in between some of the fluff. Under pressure, under weight We are diamonds taking shape - Granted, this isn't the most unique line I've ever heard, but it evokes some really great imagery and I've always loved the idea that greatness can be born out of strife. Revisited in the line Gotta hold up half the sky and say. - Everything you want's a dream away and I'm a dream that died by light of day - Okay these are honestly some of my favorite lines to come out of the post-Viva eras. I'm finding it really hard to put into words exactly how I want to explain this, but . . . It has kind of sad undertones, depending on how you look at it. I'm reading it as: you can have anything and everything you ever wanted, but it's so easy to slip up and lose it all again. Kind of like a "life is fleeting" thing. It could also be commenting on how we want all these shiny new things in our daily lives, but a lot of it is meaningless and insubstantial when we take into account the things that really matter. . . . I'm reading too much into this I know, but in my defense I'm a nerdy English major :awesome:
  10. The title "Fun" automatically makes me think this is going to be one of the sugary poppy bland songs :uhoh: But hopefully I'm wrong! Never heard of Tove Lo before, apparently she's Swedish?
  11. ^I'm so confused about "Hymn for the Weekend" Before I knew anything about it other than the title, I assumed it was going to be a nice slow burner with a piano baseline, but apparently it's going to be exactly the opposite
  12. ^ I think I've watched a few of their videos :P Also something to add that I just thought of: As others have said, it doesn't really sound like Coldplay as we've come to expect them to sound. I played AoaL for my mom and that's exactly what she said also, so there's an outside perspective for you all  I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, it's just unexpected. While I do like the song, and it does make me feel slightly better about the album, I don't think I'm going to care for the album a whole lot of the entire tracklist winds up being a bunch of songs with this really heavy 80s influence. As someone else said, they kind of sound like Two Door Cinema Club. As a song standing by itself, it's fine, but if it becomes a precursor for an album full of funky 80s songs, then my views on it are probably going to drastically change in a negative way. But that's just my early-morning, sleep-deprived rambling, so take it how you will!
  13. Okay so this is honestly nothing like I expected the song to be  I the first time I listened to it, I just had this really confused expression on my face the entire time. BUT, after listening to it several more times just a bit ago, I think I like it! Also, I'm going to add in some stuff about my general thoughts on the album so far . . . Adventure of a Lifetime -Guy's bassline will not be denied holy cow +1 -Jonny's guitar is excellent. One of my favorite riffs, although it does get a bit repetitive +.5 -Lyrics - Could be better, could be worse. Rather generic, certainly nothing any more impressive than we've heard off the last two albums. I cringed a few times -1 -BUT THAT LINE "I'm a dream that died by light of day" is fantastic. The whole song is worth it just for that line +2 -The power of the 80s is strong with this one -It's dancey without veering too strongly into pop, which I was honestly expecting it to. I actually danced to it while I was getting ready this morning +1 -Outro - Please no. There haven't been any good "ooh" or "wooh" chants since Viva -2 -Hand claps - Again, please no. Same as above -1 -What even is that twangy instrument thing at the end Total score: .5 above expectations (I'll give it a 7/10 for now) A Head Full of Dreams Artwork - I've already stated elsewhere that I'm not a huge fan of the busy, psychedelic look. Definitely prefer Coldplay's traditional clean artwork. It might just be a thing to get used to though -1 Tracklisting -Let's face it, we all knew there was eventually going to be a song called "Birds" -Somebody totally called Kaleidoscope as a song, but I have no idea who -wtf is Tove Lo and why does Coldplay have a track called Fun on their album -One Man Army sounds like a relic from the Viva era. pls be true -For some reason a lot of these I just can't picture as Coldplay songs. They're not bad, but there's no title that's really unique like there have been on other albums idk Background Knowledge/Misc. -NOEL GALLAGHER NOEL GALLAGHER NOEL GALLAGHER +1 million -Stargate as producers - Still not sold on this one, but AoaL turned out pretty good so I'm continuing to reserve judgement I don't even know how to score this part but: I'm interested to hear the rest of the album. Adventure has alleviated some of my fears about their direction and choice of producers. If the Noel Gallagher thing is true then I am literally going to die (hands down two favorite artists of all time collaborating? Sign me the heck up). I'm hoping for a nice blend of funk-rock and the traditional indie rock that embodied the guys' first four albums. Can't wait!
  14. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE FUCKING NOEL GALLAGHER ON THE ALBUM?!?!?! I AM DEAD
  15. I'm gonna head to bed for a bit, everyone. I'll see you all in the morning! Let's hope the full song is as amazing as the snippet :dazzled:
  16. I'm not even going to try and post until I actually get up and around for the day :P Also ANYONE WHO HASN'T EXPERIENCED A COLDPLAY PREMIERE BEFORE . . . I have a method to listening that I highly recommend if anyone wants to try it :D
  17. I'm so excited to hear the lyrics for this. If the title really is Adventure of a Lifetime then there are so many directions they could take it . . . C'mon Coldplay, you got the bases loaded with the instrumentation, now hit it home :wacky:
  18. ^ I agree that I would rather get a good song that does rather poorly . . . but at the same time if it does too poorly the guys (or their record company) might be disinclined to try a similar style in the future :uhoh:
  19. *puts "Animals" on repeat and rocks in corner*
  20. I know, I know :P I was mostly kidding as I agree that it's too early to tell how the album will turn out based on a 7-second snippet. It's still promising though--I haven't been this excited about a Coldplay song since, well . . . actually I don't think I liked Christmas Lights, ETiaW, Paradise, Atlas, Midnight, Magic, or Miracles as much as I like this one, and those are the only single releases I've been around for. It makes me hopeful that we may get a touch of Oldplay-magic on this album :wacky:
  21. We may have to rename the Oldplay thread
  22. ^All the links just redirect to my iTunes program and take me to Coldplay's page :P Might be because I'm on a Mac though For once I'm not dreading writing this paper--it's making the time pass nice and quickly
  23. I'm interested to see the reactions after everyone hears the full song. This is the first Coldplay release I can remember where virtually all the initial reactions were positive. In fact, I don't think I saw a single person who was disappointed with the snippet yesterday. Here's to hoping the full song lives up to the sneak peak!
