  1. I do love the cover of Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns. It's simple but it really says a lot about the album's theme. IMO They've (Coldplay) already done alternative cover courtesy of Mylo Xyloto. X&Y also came in various colors depending on the release (Blue-Standard Release, Red-Latin American Tour Edition, Black for Japanese Tour Edition...). and Ghost Stories also had a different cover for Deluxe Edition released by Target. Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends Prospekt's March Edition also came with a different cover (black background with gold font). A double album would be great of course but I don't think it would come into existence because if we look at the previous three albums, we can see that Coldplay preferred to release short but cohesive, theme-based records.
  2. I don't hate Princess of China, I just don't want Coldplay to feature the same artist in the new LP again.
  3. I wish they'll win at least one. (although the categories are quite questionable, imo)
  4. Please come to Manila :chris::jonny::guy::will:
  5. ...Or it can be the other way around. I think the majority of songs that didn't make the cut were usually shelved and will never be released. Unless the band decides to rework some of those again to fit in with the theme and style of the next album.
  6. After the dawn of Ghost Stories, it's really hard to predict the release of a new album although the album is really beginning to take shape based on Rik's blog. A release this year is still highly possible.
  7. A double album would be great but I doubt it will happen.
  8. Coldplay (MYLO XYLOTO) - The fifth album was my first anticipated Coldplay album. It's such a colorful year... They headlined a lot of festivals way back in 2011. Atoms for Peace (AMOK) - The supergroup's debut album. I became interested just bec. Thom is in it. Oh, and because of electronic music too! became a fan after hearing Reverse Running and the live acoustic performance of Ingenue. Arctic Monkeys (AM) - This awesome record was my first anticipated album of Arctic Monkeys. It always give me a retro-rock feel whenever I listen to it. Much much better than Suck it and See. Classic. The Strokes (COMEDOWN MACHINE) - I initially became interested on their music after I heard Angles in its entirety. I feel Comedown Machine was a good follow up to it. Arcade Fire (REFLEKTOR) - I anticipated this album after I listened a lot to their back catalog. The record is quite long but I love it. I just don't understand the 10min instrumental intro though. Bjork (VULNICURA) - I just discover her music recently and the new album (that was leaked initially) was my first anticipated album from her. I always imagine Bjork to be the female version of Thom Yorke (musically speaking). ELBOW (THE TAKE OFF AND LANDING OF EVERYTHING) - Another classic album from another post-Britpop band. I feel that the album sounds similar to its predecessor "Build a Rocket Boys!"). U2 (SONGS OF INNOCENCE) - I'm not familiar with their music until I tried to listen (bec. Coldplay are often compared to them) to their last 3 effort. Songs of Innocence was my first anticipated album from this hall of famers. I'm still waiting for a new Radiohead release.
  9. Ghost Stories Deluxe Edition:
  10. @ fritzeal- Hi, I'm glad another Filipino visited (or in your case re-visited) the forum. @ isha- speed of sound is an instant classic though it was fix you that I truly adored on the day I first listened to the whole album. X&Y... such an underrated album.
  11. It's alright :) When I was in college, I became too critical of everything. I began to ask questions about faith. At that time I thought it was normal to be like that since our course is Philosophy. Mali ako. I just realized one day that I'm doubting the faith. And it ate me up eventualy. I soon became bored of our daily sched and began to skip morning prayers and mass. It was a dark and sad time. Luckily I'm beginning to rediscover the magic of faith thanks to daily reflections/meditations, poetry (which is my passion), and of course music ;)
  12. Unfortunately no. I just watch the news for updates regarding the papal visit. I wished I had the chance to see him in person though. By the way, I'm a former seminarian so it means a lot that the pope was able to visit our problematic country.
  13. You should also consider the cohesiveness of the album and the standout style as well. Maybe AROBTTH is better when we speak of individual songs but I must say that Viva has a leg up on the experimentation process as well as on the flow of the whole album.
  14. I basically learned about the band when I was still in college. Then I became a fan of their music. Pinakinggan ko araw-araw bawat album bago yung release ng MX. By doing that, I realized the evolution of their music. What I learned is that the real power of Coldplay is they always stay relevant no matter what - I'm speaking here of style and genre. Coldplay has a wide palette of genre that's why they are so interesting. Kahit na nahilig ako sa Radiohead recently (which by the way has loads of oustanding, cerebral work), Coldplay is still the best.
  15. Nice to meet you here in this forum Harlene. I'm Erwin and I've been in this forum for quite some time now. I think I joined before the release of MX.
  16. Happy 17th Birthday COLDPLAY. Thank you for existing and for the timeless songs you've made :drinking:
  17. MX only has 11 songs if we exclude the 3 instrumentals. It's even shorter than VLVODAAHF in terms of running time/duration. That being said, I agree that X&Y had lost its magic due to its running time (I think it's more than an hour) but I'll argue that it has really some good and interesting tracks. yes maybe for some they are not as good as AROBTTH of VLV but the magic of this two albums lies basically on the connection it makes. I'm not saying that the other albums doesn't establish connections with the hearer/person. For me, this two albums rely heavily on what you really strongly feel at the moment. You know I really enjoy MX when I'm happy while I tend to play X&Y whenever I want some space.
  18. Yes, you're totally right  By the way, I'm from Pampanga but I currently stay in Madaluyong bec. of work. I'm still hoping they'll include Manila in the LP7 tour though.
  19. Maybe the release date will be on the latter part of the year because it's highly unlikely that they will play on Glasto (based on the interview). That will be different from the MX era.
  20. I voted Always in My head because it is always in my head literally. Midnight behind by an inch.
  21. I would love this to happen
  22. I agree. I don't have anything against POC. In fact, it works well with the rest of the song in MX. Rihanna has a unique and powerful voice as well. If Chris and the band will include another song on LP7 with her that will be okay. But like you said, it would be more interesting if they collaborate with someone else because we already heard a Coldplay song with Rihanna in it.
  23. I'm hoping for a Coldplay, Radiohead, U2 and Björk release :guitarist:
  24. I know the direction Coldplay is taking right now can attract/ is attracting a lot of criticisms but I just can't understand the fact that here we are waiting for a new LP to arrive and yet there is too much pessimism going on around. The album is not even released yet but is panned already by some. How can someone criticize something that doesn't exist yet? It doesn't make sense to me...
  25. I agree though if we listen again to interviews (of Chris Martin) the band is all fired up at the moment. I think the main question that they need to ask themselves after LP7 is "do they really need to ignore critics and just do what they enjoy the most?". I think it will be beneficial for them to listen to some critics again and start challenging their talent more as individuals and as a band (not just learning new stuff and fusing it with their current sound or drawing inspiration to what is relevant in terms of style in the music industry). A possible sub question: "what do they mean of being relevant?". Is it to adapt to the current genre and style or to create music that would left critics wondering how they pulled it up (even Pitchfork media).
