  1. The Cat Empire needs to headline a friday night sometime... Just saw them yesterday. Awesome! These guys sure know how to cook up a partay :D
  2. The Finals: Act 3 1 - Snow Patrol vs. Sigur Ros 2 - Radiohead vs. Arcade Fire Finally, the round I've been waiting for... where I can vote for both Radiohead (outstanding musical genius) and Snow Patrol (sentimental favourite). Ah, I can officially die happy now... :laugh3:
  3. Btw Dave, just in case you hadn't noticed, the link (for Finals: Act 2) to your siggy hasn't been updated yet ;)
  4. The Finals: Act 2 1 - Snow Patrol vs. Radiohead 2 - Sigur Ros vs. Arcade Fire
  5. The Finals: Act 1 1 Snow Patrol vs. Arcade Fire 2 Radiohead vs. Sigur Rós I'm voting clearly for Radiohead. Can't choose between Arcade Fire and SP... One's got my head, the other, my heart.
  6. I don't think the wrong band was highlighted, just that The Strokes are still preferable (to the even less remarkeable Snow Patrol - which is not my personal view btw, I think SP are heaps better). And what a crime - U2 vs Radiohead in round 2?!! There'll be some huge casualties there... At least it wasn't Beatles vs Arcade Fire (I nearly thought they were going head to head coz they're in the top 2 ties).
  7. Round 2 1 Oasis vs. Arcade Fire One of the best musical groups currently, no contest. 2 The Beatles vs. Muse Greatness, greatness, greatness vs... mediocrity 3 Bright Eyes vs. Death Cab For Cutie 4 Keane vs. Arctic Monkeys These two bands could've made way for a couple of other more tuneful (and most definitely more talented in the case of Keane) bands. *sigh* 5 Blur vs. Mew 6 Sigur Rós vs. Red Hot Chili Peppers 7 Snow Patrol vs. The strokes 8 U2 vs. Radiohead Ouch, this is too much - for these 2 bands to meet so early :( I wonder whether the votes will be as close as most people think?
  8. Round 1 1 Arctic Monkeys vs. Elbow Elbow could show them Monkeys a thing or two about subtlety 2 The Beatles vs. Dashboard Confessional Not going to argue with possibly the world's greatest band ever! 3 Sigur Rós vs. REM Sheer musicality vs slightly less tuneful music... Pity they had to meet this early 4 Arcade Fire vs. Explosions In The Sky Explosions who? 5 Death Cab For Cutie vs. We Are Scientists Sorry dunno you Scientists... 6 Radiohead vs. The Clash One word - Genius. All of 5 of them. 7 Blur vs. The Killers The Killers could learn a thing or two about varying their styles 8 U2 vs. The Libertines Over 2 decades of fine music :) 9 The strokes vs. Maximo Park :\ 10 British Sea Power vs. Bright Eyes For the band that brought us their 'Decline...', tongue in cheek :laugh3: 11 Oasis vs. The Smiths Oasis win for their far more engaging sound. Sorry Johnny Marr, great guitar work, but where's the fun if you can't hear it? 12 Muse vs. Stereophonics For bringing back grand, overblown (although sometimes over-repeated) rock n roll back! 13 Keane vs. Ben Folds Tough one. For once I'm going with Ben Folds coz I really don't think Keane's sound works, although they do have some brilliant bits piano-wise... 14 Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Interpol Scar tissue and their southern drawl... 15 Mew vs. Nick Drake Nick Drake, coz I don't know Mew :( 16 Bloc Party vs. Snow Patrol Sometimes overly dramatic but at least they have more than one trick up their sleeve - no matter how good a trick is, it gets old, Bloc Party
  9. Well, I'm not really into shorts either but these films surprised me - I'd never have thought you could cram in that much narrative into 7 minutes...
  10. I present to you... Tropfest 2007, the biggest short film festival in the world! Each film is <7 minutes long, and it's an annual event held in Canberra, Australia's capital and was attended by 17,000 film buffs this year :D The site hosts videos for all the finalists of Tropfest 2007, and some of the real good ones I've seen are An Imaginary Life, Between The Flags, The Grey Cloud and Road Rage. They're all good quality, the lot, with a proper budget and everything... Most of them have a cinematic feel to them, like you're watching something made for cinema, only that the footage is real short. :laugh3: Watch out for the sneezes (which is the compulsory item that must be included for all entrants this year) ;) As a teaser, check out this year's winner, An Imaginary Life --> http://ninemsn.video.msn.com/v/en-au/v.htm?f=39&g=e0bc333c-1c5b-42b1-995b (my only gripe is that the only way to view the films are via nineMSN's media player :( )
  11. Two rather disturbing but great YouTube videos to share... One's the (in)famous Grim Reaper Ad that was shown in Australia in 1987 in the wake of the AIDS epidemic (it's the 20th anniversary today :D - still as shocking as ever even in the face of all the gruesome stuff we routinely see on TV nowadays). This one seriously gave me the chills when they played it on TV this morning! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U219eUIZ7Qo The other one's more light-hearted. I present to you, a CNNN clip on the genius of everyday Americans... NOT! :laugh3: It is seriously funny (although a bit disturbing as well if you think about it). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJuNgBkloFE
  12. Just updated my Top 100 Albums list :)
  13. Happy Birthday Mary! Ooo, haven't been around in awhile, just fortunate to have been checking posts when I did today... :D Have a good one!
  14. I'm finding my song list hard... Just too many to choose from! :P
  15. ^ Similar concerns... I just have it a bit easier coz I've heard >50 good albums :laugh3: Took quite awhile to get there though. :uhoh: I'm just going to leave off all the average albums and hope that the good albums I've never heard will be listed by others :)
  16. Werewolves of London - Zevon
  17. Haha, love that sarcasm. Yes, they were decent... And Shiver's quite a tune too.
  18. ^ Just did some googling... After a bit of a search, I've found the song - It's actually Shimmer by Fuel. It was one of the songs on their first EP - Porcelin (released in 1996) and was "a small radio hit". It was later re-released on their first full-length album Sunburn. Their most famous song, we all know is Haemorrhage (In My Hands) (Something Like Human, 2000) :D Sorry for the run-around guys :P
  19. I need some help with a song... Does anyone know the band that originally sang 'Shiver' - which was sung on Australian Idol last night (17/09/06)? It was quite popular on the radio around 1998 and possibly sung by Fuel (or any number of sound-alikes). It's a rock song - sounds a bit like Flood by Jars of Clay...
  20. Some candidates... - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not - Arctic Monkeys - The Eraser - Thom Yorke - Black Fingernails, Red Wine - Eskimo Joe (good Aussie band with great emotional depth that sounds a bit like U2 & other classic rock bands)
  21. Haha people, spread the love :D One huge reason why I really love this board and keep coming back! Just a little something = It's Creep from the V Festival  I'm sure some of you would've seen it, I'm just surprised I didn't notice it being posted here :)

  23. I guess remixes eg A Little Less Conversation would be credited to fatboy slim rather than the King himself? Thanks Nik! :D

  25. Question - A bit unlikely, but are covers (of songs) allowed? And if covers are allowed, what about live covers e.g. Stop Me (If You've Heard This One Before) as performed by Chris, Jonny & Noel Gallagher - which was originally recorded by the Smiths? And I guess if covers are not allowed, then what about if I vote for a song based on the covered performance (e.g. same scenario above) but credit it to the original artiste ie the Smiths? Also, are OSTs allowed? If not, what if they're all by the same artiste / composer e.g. About A Boy (Badly Drawn Boy) or LOTR (Howard Shore) or Catch Me If You Can (John Williams)? What about classical albums / compositions? And I guess in the same vein, what about individual songs from movies e.g. Star Wars theme, or classical compositions e.g. Rhapsody In Blue or Debussy's Clair de Lune (Yep, that song from Seven Years In Tibet)? And if classical songs are allowed, do we credit the songs to the original composer? And lastly, does The Eraser count as separate from Radiohead? What if people wanted to include Prince albums / albums from artistes with alter egos/frequent name changes?
