Albums of the Year - 2005
Question: purely philosophical but what happens when those of us who don't listen to as many albums vote? Won't that skew the points?

U2
Anyone care to update me on what's been going on? What's a U2 hate thread doing on a Coldplay forum and *worse :P* a thread in response to the anti-thread doing here? :dozey: (18 pages is just to much to go through...)

Coldplay on MTV Germany ** VIDEO ADDED **
Random observation: Did anyone notice that Will seems to be suppressing humour in his voice in the last few seconds of the interview? Dunno how the editing affected the interview, but it seemed a bit like Will & Chris had a big row not long before the interview, and they're all trying hard to put it behind them and be ok during the interview. Not to subscribe to the rumour mill, but Chris hardly dared to look in Will's direction throughout (although they did seem ok again when Will asked the Anton question about Clocks). Will did look pissed :o and Guy & Jonny looked rather sober or down even. If there was a row, it looked like it was Will getting angry with Chris? On the other hand, the band have been looking rather disinterested and serious during interviews lately... The MTV news RAW interview anyone? Maybe nothing happened, just that they were tired and disconnected from their surroundings when the interviewer was not directing questions at them. Or could be they found the questions boring  Notice how each of the guys warm notibeably when actually saying something :)

AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
@Callum. Your siggy right now is rotflol  Better get one going soon :wink3: @Bonita. Glad you're back from camp. Wasn't even aware you went... so that's why you haven't been around the last few days. Look what you've caused --> I got you mixed up with Bonnie over Aussie footie + Coldplay. Long story, but in short it was both :o and :embarrased: What a howler! (though in hindsight, I should prolly be blaming Bonnie for that :dozey: Her new av. is sooo subtle in contrast to the previous ones  I'm still not used to it... *Isn't it, Bonnie???* <-- ok jk, don't get mad :P) And @Bonnie... damn right about your music scene. I'm jealous!

Radiohead
^ Thanks RA-D, I'm d'loading it now, hope I'll get to see a smashing gig by the time I get home :D Haha Camu, like RA-D said that wasn't their first Glasto gig, though I hear it was one of the best Glastos ever :) How'd you find Glasto 2003? Great no? :wink3: I liked it sooo much I've put it on my siggy :D Btw, how's the 'meeting people is easy' dvd? Is it a concert DVD (too lazy to google it & check it out )? How's it compare to CP's Live 2003?

White Shadows / U2 comparison
Twisted Logic moreso. That's the first thing that struck me when I first heard Twisted Logic. I've never heard I Want You (She's So Heavy) :o but X&Y *floating on a tidal wave* riff's sounds like Karma Police's bass to me, while Twisted Logic reminds me of "Someday" (Hunchback of Notre Dame OST).

N-Nigeria- White Shadows / U2 comparison
:o Is that possible? How many hours a day do u listen to music??? I'm knocked-out by the thought that I might actually be clocking similar play counts for Coldplay coz they're on almost all the time. ------- an_cat OMG, your Coldplay history is sooo like mine! I also became a fan after Trouble... the experience was life-changing to say the least :D. I'd heard them around Yellow when the single was released. Radio DJs were getting all hot n bothered about "this new band called Coldplay..." I'd heard Yellow on the radio, and wasn't in the least bit impressed although they sounded alright. The music just didn't click. Then Trouble came along and the video (UK version) just blew me away... I never would have latched on to U2 (and so many other bands) if I didn't have Coldplay first. Parachutes was perfect for me, and as I grew into AROBTTH and X&Y, my musical tastes expanded along as well. I'll always have them to thank for that. As for similarities in activism, I think any good band with a conscience / who feel passionately for things happening in the world would do what Bono & Coldplay have done... so many causes out there need addressing, and I would expect bands who've a heart to be supporting some of them. I guess the way Chris & Bono are similar during concerts is their energy & the way they channel/express it... They both bound around the stage a lot and sing their hearts out :P And I so agree with you that Chris should vary his voice more within songs... For me, one of the best tracks I've heard is "Where Is My Boy". It more or less covers everything of his voice, and all the emotion there is just wow. And I can't wait for the day they decide to go mad and Chris has a go at singing like MJ / Justin Timberlake using his falsetto  (he's already used it in his Ash and The Streets collaborations, but too bad there are no original CP productions out as yet :P) And to return to something that has anything remotely resembling the original point of this thread, I guess the most we could say is that Coldplay are inspired by U2. Most times, the songs trigger off "this part so might have been written by such-and-such..." reactions. Or ocassionally I hear little quotes that've been done before in various odds and ends. I find it endearing that Coldplay gives tributes to the great bands of yesteryear by make a study out of their styles and at the same time, adds on to music by exploring new ways of expressing those styles :)- AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
^ *Oops* sorry. :embarrased: (I knew that actually, dunno how I thought the person who posted was Bonnie04 :P) *must be far too many things going through my head not to have noticed*- TALK VIDEO - WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Hi Bonnie. The mpeg (avi) & wmv formats are here (personally I like the one by Chappers best, although there may be a slight reduction in audio quality) http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23814&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30 And there's a mov file here http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23814&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=90 Just scroll down the pages :D- Happy b-day Nadia (aka lunar1126)...
*bumps thread* Haha, today's your day... Come people, wish this lovely girl HAPPY BIRTHDAY!- Chris and Jonny
Thanks Nettie for that "Chris leaning into Jon" pic... That is the best I've ever seen :pleased:- TALK VIDEO - WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I like your description  As for some of the (mostly guys) criticisms levelled at this video... I agree. Maybe we are taking the song too seriously but the emotions part of this video is totally lacking. I'm not gonna slam the video though... It's too creative, and has the boys taking the mickey out of themselves for once. Am I the only one who feels decidedly undecided about the video?- Australian fans ;) and New Zealanders? :D
 Apparently... Did you ask her for her secret? :sneaky: Nah, won't throw rotten fruit at you, too cliche... :idea2: But I've something even more cliche... rotten eggs! :D *throws rotten eggs* :vanish: *hides* :disguise: Since you're "lazy as a couch potato", I figure i'd give you good practice so eventually you'll be able to "fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee" (It's usually Mohammad btw, although Mohammed / Mohamad etc is common enough. Over here they even abbreviate it --> Mohd.) But I guess I'll give you a break since you've had a tough exam and all, you poor thing... Hope everything else went well :nice: It is good to have you back :D- AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
:embarrased: *sigh* there goes another one... I don't pay attention to the Merseysiders too much... My eyes are trained on to Manchester (we're having far too many woes lately). I guess I'll shut up about Australian footie for now lest I end up making another worse-than-Barthez-the-clown blunder :P And yes Bonita *totally agrees* Coldplay are great :pleased: Spread the love!- White Shadows / U2 comparison
