LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
I listened to the leak... now I just need to wait for Flags! I have no idea if that bonus track will leak on its own before release day.... here's to hoping it's as good as All Your Friends and Ghost Story.

Everyday Life = « jesus is king 2.0 » ?
Everyday Life does not seem to be too influenced by the actual beliefs of Christianity. We've got Church and When I Need A Friend, but we've got stuff influenced by Islam as well, which appears to be an extension of Chris' exploration of Sufism (Islamic mysticism) before AHFOD, which resulted in a Rumi poem appearing on the album. The name Bani Adam comes from a poem by another Muslim poet named Saadi Shirazi, who justified the oneness of humanity from the fact that we all share a common ancestor, we're all one species. We "share the same blood." I think whether you are creationist or not, that's a very beautiful message that doesn't necessarily have to condone religion.

Everyday Life Leak Discussion [SPOILERS INSIDE]
One of my favorite little details on this album is the haunting heartbeat noise you hear at the end of Trouble In Town... and again in Daddy. It's kind of like the sonar-like tone throughout Oceans, but more subtle and honestly very meaningful if you think about it in the context of the lyrics of both songs.

I daresay Jonny's guitar work in the latter half of Trouble In Town may be some of his very best. Right up there with the solos in songs like Talk, A Message, GPASUYF, Cemeteries of London, and Violet Hill. They're back. If you are an Oldplayer, especially a Viva fan, then I think you are unlikely to be disappointed. It's some truly great stuff. That's right! Kaleidoscope was just less risky because it still included some pop Newplay, heheh.

Ooooh... if that's the case, then it especially makes me hope they do something not all that unlike what they did with Ghost Stories Live 2014 and all the bonus content.

Everyday Life Leak Discussion [SPOILERS INSIDE]
Right now, I'd have to say... X&Y Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends A Rush of Blood to the Head Everyday Life Parachutes Ghost Stories Mylo Xyloto A Head Full of Dreams I certainly never expected to enjoy LP8 enough that I'd rank it higher than an "Oldplay" album. It's possible that with more listens, Everyday Life could creep into that top 3. Time will tell.

Everyday Life Leak Discussion [SPOILERS INSIDE]
Alright, so I just finished listening to the album... Wow. Wow. This is the return to form I've been hoping for. There isn't really a single weak moment... instead there are so many highlights, so many cool little moments and so much experimentation throughout. Who would have thought we'd get a gospel song (BrokEn), a really old fashioned track that sounds like something my great grandparents would have loved (Cry Cry Cry), something that sounds like a Catholic hymn or Gregorian chant (When I Need a Friend), something that sounds like Chris busking on a beach in Costa Rica (WOTW/POTP), something so downright angry and political (Trouble In Town, Arabesque, and Guns), a classical-sounding piano piece that doesn't end as quickly as Postcards From Far Away and then turns into this piece with vibes that remind me of A Spell A Rebel Yell (Bani Adam), a Stargate-produced song that isn't cheesy and horribly mixed (Church), a song that sounds like it could have been on Parachutes (Old Friends), voice memos throughout that don't detract from the flow of the album... Well done. This is something truly special.

Everyday Life Leak Discussion [SPOILERS INSIDE]
I'm giving in and listening right now. I'm currently on Eko... so far this album is something really special. That's all I'm gonna say now.

Haven't listened to the album yet but these early reactions are really encouraging. Especially those from the folks who frequent this thread. Sounds like we're getting Viva Pt. 2 after all... and Arabesque + that snippet of Guns weren't just a fluke.

LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
I figured the album had leeked. It's quite delicious, really. Everyday Life is a unique variety. Much preferable to that "ahfod" kind that was all the rage a few years ago. :p In all seriousness I haven't heard the album yet. I may give in soon though :joy:

Liam Gallagher
So Liam actually did it... he actually did add Acquiesce and Gas Panic to his set like he said a couple months ago. And he's got Bonehead playing with him again, too. How about that? ?

LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
I had another dream about the album last night, after dreaming about Sunrise a couple weeks ago. Can't remember exactly which of the new songs we haven't heard yet was which, but one of them totally sounded like something from Parachutes and one sounded a bit like a slower version of Lost! with less percussion. I really liked what I heard, fingers crossed... I was actually fairly spot on back in 2015 when I had a dream about AHFOD (the song) before it came out, I dreamt it was an uptempo stadium rock anthem with Chris singing lots of "whoaaaas." :D Y'all are spot-on... I don't think Sparks has a chance at all, at least they are acknowledging its existence but this is probably just gonna be the AHFOD tour audience request thing all over again. I voted for Sparks but at least Viva has a chance and fits the vibe of this era more than Magic, ASFOS, and SJLT.

Noel Gallagher
Sometimes I feel like the only Oasis fan who adores most of what Noel has done with High Flying Birds. Honestly I just think he's getting better. Black Star Dancing is an awesome EP. And yes, Sail On is one of his best HFB tracks. Noel debuted a new song called Wandering Star the other night at a show in Auckland in support of U2. Pretty good stuff if you ask me:

You want to know something I wish Chris would do again? Dust off an electric guitar for more than just GPASUYF. Like, listen to those classic live versions of Warning Sign as well as the studio version. Never mind the fact that Chris absolutely kills it in songs like One I Love, Crests of Waves, A Whisper, and Moses that feature him prominently on rhythm guitar. Or at least insist that they turn up his acoustic guitar in the mix. It's there in a lot of the songs from the last 3 albums but apart from obvious outliers like UATW and Oceans, you can barely hear it. It’s kind of ironic when you compare that performance with this one: I don't know, One Love Manchester was meaningful, and I love both Noel and Liam, but there's still a kind of magic to that 2002 performance which was lacking in 2017.

LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
Blink-182 did a thing throughout the lead-up to their latest album Nine where you could call a phone number and it'd play a teaser from the upcoming single. I tried calling Coldplay's Community number just in case they tried doing the same thing. It was worth a try, got to hear that message from Phil which was cool :D That is absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't be surprised if they took some inspiration from that old, antiquated countryside aesthetic. Now that I think of it... Will's part is a little underwhelming on Everyday Life. But then again I still prefer it to that fully electronic sound on Ghost Stories. I'm no drummer, but I love what Will did with live versions of ASFOS starting around late 2015 or so. His playing is noticeably different, it sounds so much more natural than what you hear on the studio version and the GS Live 2014 version. Reminds me more of DLIBYH. They are confirmed for the Global Citizen Festival next year. But whether that means a show focused on Everyday Life or LP9, who knows... Hopefully when they do their next big stadium tour, maybe in 2021 or 2022, they'll incorporate Everyday Life into the set. I liked how they used some of the Ghost Stories songs on the AHFOD tour... playing Always In My Head and Magic before Everglow was great IMO. And those visuals during AIMH were gorgeous.
