Music video Richard Ashcroft or Liam Gallagher?
  3. I'm listening to Jacob Collier's Djesse Vol. 1 album right now... if Coldplay works with someone like this, then I'm all for it. And his style makes me want to hear him collaborate with Thom Yorke as well, haha.
  4. I swear I remember something about this! EDIT: He did indeed! Listen around the 35 second mark of the video. When you look at the lyrics, it actually fits pretty well with the themes they've got going for Everyday Life so far. I could go on and on but in short if they want the setlist to really reflect the message of the album, Hypnotised would be a great song to include in the set.
  5. If the band decides to go against established tradition and opens shows with a song that isn't the first one on that era's record--and my theory about dividing the main set into Sunrise and Sunset halves isn't correct--then I think Orphans would work very well as an opener. It'd do a great job of getting the crowd fired up.
  6. I can't remember exact dates for many of these but here's my current list of artists I've seen live off the top of my head: Coldplay Thom Yorke U2 Muse Foo Fighters Vampire Weekend Beck New Order Chvrches The 1975 Foals ZZ Top Snow Patrol The Fray Samantha Fish Smash Mouth .38 Special Christopher Cross Trace Adkins The Lumineers The Killers Blink-182 Pat Benatar All Time Low Angels & Airwaves The New Regime Eric Johnson Sleeping With Sirens Mayday Parade As for artists I plan on seeing? I'm hoping to see Thom Yorke again next year. And the awesome lineup of Green Day, Weezer, and Fall Out Boy are coming to town next summer on their "Hella Mega Tour" so I definitely want to see them.
  7. How interesting... I'm not familiar with Jacob Collier's past work but he does sound like someone Chris would recruit! The interviewer apparently thinks one of the two halves of the double album is supposed to be more experimental than the other? I haven't listened to the Zane Lowe interview so I don't know if Chris has actually said anything about it but I've certainly heard nothing about it. If this is true, then I suppose Sunrise is the experimental half because that's where we're going to find Arabesque. Though the entire album sounds like it should be experimental in some sense. I'm not quite sure what to believe :joy:
  8. That music video makes me want to hear a live version that starts acoustic and builds up to the full band.
  9. It's a really cool video, so different from what I expected but really charming and joyful without feeling sugar-coated by too much eye candy. There's a lot of focus on the band, which is something I love to see.
  10. Viva la Vida vs Politik
  11. I'm gonna guess they'll play Orphans and then either an older song like Viva or perhaps something new like Trouble In Town if they have dropped another single by that point.
  12. Arabesque vs 42
  13. I'm still annoyed by the intro to Miracles (Someone Special) where that synth cuts out for a second a couple of times. Just feels weird when I listen to it, I seriously thought it was a glitch at first. But I suppose it was intended to be that way because it was never changed. Hopefully the little glitchy bit of Orphans gets fixed for the album release. I can't imagine why it would be left as it is. But at least it doesn't really detract from the song.
  14. Orphans vs Charlie Brown
  15. I hope the band realizes that experimentation isn't going to appeal to the casual fan who only knows Clocks, The Scientist, Viva la Vida, and Paradise. And I don't want them to shy away from daring tracks in the future if there's more than one of them on the album and the casual fans aren't too thrilled about it while the die-hard fans love it.
  16. Orphans vs Lovers In Japan
  17. Guy's phenomenal bass parts on Orphans and Arabesque
  18. Life in Technicolor vs The Escapist
  19. I'm not saying Everyday Life is going to compete with Kid A. What Radiohead did with Kid A was on another level. But Arabesque signals a similar abrupt change in direction, honestly even more drastic than Viva. Here's to hoping there's more than one track in this era that's as inventive as Arabesque.
  20. I'm not saying Everyday Life is going to compete with Kid A by any stretch. But Arabesque signals a change in direction that is honestly comparable to Kid A. It borrows from Viva, but at the same time it has this profound freshness that comes from true experimentation.
  21. Arabesque is from the "Sunrise" half of the album, so I'm guessing that half isn't gonna be as upbeat as I expected. I figured that would be the lighthearted half and "Sunset" would be the darker half. Doesn't look like that's gonna be the case! Arabesque is dark, even a little bit angry, while Orphans (from the "Sunset" half) is honestly both lighthearted and dark, with that fun, pop exterior hiding some really sad themes undernearth. I'm curious to see what it really is that sets each half of the album apart from the other.
  22. I recall reading from someone here (I can't remember who) that the video shoot in Malibu was supposedly for a "terrible" song according to someone who witnessed it... so I was a little worried about what was to come. But assuming the song was Orphans, I'm hyped for that music video. I'm hyped for everything this era has to offer. The world turned... not quite upside down, but on its side? :p
  23. It's pop Coldplay without Stargate and overproduction -- something I've been wanting badly for a while now. It's catchy, it's a fun listen, yet it's quite meaningful and sad beneath the upbeat exterior... I'm interpreting it as a song about kids in a war zone who have nowhere to run and just want to live their lives. This is their true Everyday Life versus the Everyday Life they want to live. It kinda compliments ALIENS and Moving to Mars, except these are the folks who can't run. It sounds to me like a mishmash of Lovers In Japan, Strawberry Swing, and ETIAW.
  24. I'm in love with this song... currently my favorite of the two we got today, because of just how bold it is. I'm curious about what it'd sound like on VLVODAAHF in place of Yes; right now Yes is the only other song in their catalogue with a clear Arabic music influence, and Arabesque just fits that Viva vibe so well, which is only natural considering that era was when it originated. I still can't pin down who exactly is singing the French verse, is it Stromae? Gosh, they already live for that kind of stage, but this song? On the pyramid stage? *dies* I really hope they have an actual saxophonist onstage, too.
  25. Only two Coldplay albums have surpassed the 50 minute mark: AROBTTH and X&Y. It has been rare to get more than 45 minutes of music from the band at a time during their career but I'll take it!
