Arcade Fire

the last track is better than the first track and has made me like the first a little bit more, but then at the same time wished it was the last track which was longer, and the first which was shorter.

Yeah, I followed a path similar to yours. I am a big fan of VLV and MX (the "midplay" era, ahah) and when I discovered that Coldplay mentioned several times AF as an influence during that period, I st

EXACTLY!

this album is looking like a 9.0/10 for me but still doesnt feel like album of the year for me. there are a couple of others just ahead of it.

It is definitely top 5 for me. Not sure where though.

i'd go as far as to say 'the suburbs (continued)' is the most beautiful thing i've heard in a long time. but it probably makes more annoyed that it made it on because they clearly do still have something but they just didn't show it in the rest of the album.

i think they could become another one of those bands that try different things, but not anything i have an interest in so i eventually just stop listening to their new releases. like kings of leon or badly drawn boy. hopefully this album was only a blip. the final track gives me hope that they can turn it around.

funeral: 9.5

neon bible: 8.7

the suburbs: 6.3

It is definitely top 5 for me. Not sure where though.

same here. it might very well be in the top 3 for me but I won't really know until the end of the year (the hype, new album release, and concerts probably skew my rating to make it higher).

Other albums that are in my top 5 of the year:

Teen Dream-Beach House

High Violet-The National

Forgiveness Rock Record-Broken Social Scene

The Suburbs-Arcade Fire

those are the albums I know will be in the top of the year, though I don't know the order (well I guess I probably like BSS the least of the ones above

well i have just reached a new level of fangirlyness. the show as you know was amazing the crowd was really really into it and from the first song o fthe show it was just raw energy zooming across MSG i could not keep still for one minute hence my poor vids i was just having so much fun i was laughing and screaming and singing all at the same time. i think i screamed Regine's name quite a few times, she was amazing, they all were amazing, best show of the year for me yes even better than Muse where i think i had the same seats for . thanks for whoever posted the set list, unless its a Coldplay show i can never remember the set list, ok uploading vids now so it might take some time but they will suck compared to what you all saw last night

This album seems pretty polarizing. You either love it or don't care for it.

Personally I love it and on first impression am much more impressed than Neon Bible.

I love the new wave sounds on the album. Love the Neil Youngesque vocals on some songs. I think this album contains Win's best vocals and lyrics. Also think that Sprawls II is the best thing that Regine has done with Arcade Fire yet.

Its a dense album and like they said in an interview it has alot of info.

ok here we go sorry about the singing it normally ends after the first line of the song hehhe

THIS. Ive listened to this album about 20 times now since it got leaked and I think its absolutely amazing. My top five will probably look that that above unless anything incredible comes out in the next 5 months.

Awesome vids Christa! You have no idea how jealous i was of you last night :P

I've been listening to The Suburbs over and over lately.

It really is nothing special. I don't like it. Such an average album.

do you live in the "suburbs"? what are they like in NZ?

i think a large part of the reason why i love this album so much is because i feel that i can relate to it directly having spent the last 20yrs living in the suburbs. they have encapsulated the sound perfectly on the album.

I do live in the suburbs...But I never look at albums in that kind of way. It's just music to me.

I've noticed a similar thing - I have never really lived in the "suburbs", but the fact that it's a pretty foreign concept to me just intrigues me more!

Osheaga review

http://thebrokenspeaker.com/2010/08/07/concert-review-osheaga-2010-day-1-part-two/

A hometown show. Fireworks. Release day of the most anticipated album of the year. Perfect weather. It certainly was a special night at Parc Jean Drapeau as Arcade Fire took to the stage as headliners of Osheaga. Right from the start they showed they were ready to put on a great show playing the jumpable and energetic Ready To Start from their new album the Suburbs. If casual fans were unfamiliar with the new songs, no need to worry as they held nothing back playing older favourites Neighborhood #2 (Laika), No Cars Go, and Haiti keeping the crowd dancing, clapping, and singing along. New song Empty Room was next as the band played their hearts out under the visual of a large barren concrete open and empty room on their video screen. The religion-in-question anthem of Intervention followed. What has turned out to be a fan favourite from the new album, Rococo is also proving to be a powerful live anthem with shouts of Rococo and explosion of orchestral strings, vocals, and distorted guitars. Crown of Love and its disco infused dance party ending were next. The band then made the live debut of Deep Blue which was an exciting treat and also a great way to see who in the crowd had downloaded the leak as some sang along word for word. This was followed by the nostalgic and lamenting We Used To Wait. The dynamic combo of Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) of Rebellion (Lies) put the crowd into a frenzy as the band played what has to be one of the most thrilling live combo of songs out there. The energy did not simmer after this as the band played the punk influenced Month of May, a song built for live shows. The band then debuted the first live performance of Half Life II (No Celebration) before waving goodbye and ending their main set. After loud cheers the band returned for an encore starting with Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels). The crowd was surprised when a snow storm of confetti began near the end of the song filling the skies with the image of white snow followed by Win Butler declaring it was Christmastime. Before the snow had settled to the ground they started playing Sprawls II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) for the first time live. After a mistake, laughs, and a restart, the band delivered a song in which Regine completely steals the show and provides her best vocals to date with Arcade Fire and shows how she can captivate the audience with her singing, hand motions, and dancing. The show ended with a chorus of 25 000 people singing Wake Up in unison as the band concluded their three song encore and a spectacular show.

The setlist contained an excellent combination of new songs and old classics. While it can be a risk playing so many new songs in one set (nearly half were from the Suburbs), this was not a problem as songs such as Rococo have the ability to become instant favourites. Owen Pallett joined the band onstage for their entire set adding to what is already a very talented and entertaining to watch string section. It was great to see him singing along with all the songs. Arcade Fire are such a great live band because they put all they have into each performance. While the subject matter of the songs may not be the happiest thing out there, they are songs that people can easily relate to and be impacted by. Oh, and did I mention there was a massive firework display off in the distance that started during Rococo? It was just icing on the cake of a perfect festival day.

same here, though i love the album in general. but it has a suburban feel to me w/ songs like both halflights (sound very nostalgic to me, though it's a new song)
