That's the way i see it, i'm gonna attempt to have coldplay marathon during one of my revision sessions, from Don't Panic to Til Kingdom Come and see if i can notice their evoloution - I'm pretty sure i'll notice one. The fact is both Parachutes and AROBTTH are building blocks and without them, X&Y would never be playing on my IPOD. For that reason alone they deserve respect (as well as the fact they are just as good as Parachutes and A rush of blood to the head) - In my opinion that is :)

You have a point that the previous albums were building blocks. but they managed to cut the sappiness and put actual emotion into it. just as miggy d said, you need to relate it to past experiences and its true colors shine. For me it was the first time I ever went to a rave (because the music has a very house/electronica sound) or the first the girlfriend I had (innocent love) and the first breakup (the fear of being alone). Great Stuff this album!

If X & Y is what electronic music sounded like I'd have a lot fewer CD's in my collection. :sick: A few ambient synths do not an electronic album make.

i think x&y is better,but not by much. Theres only one song that i skip over on x&y and a couple on arobtth.

Their albums have gotten progressively better, and none of them have been even close to bad or mediocre, and X&Y is my favorite thus far. I hope they continue this course of evolution!

Of course, depending on what mood I'm in, this list is always changing

Everyone here seems to adore A Rush of Blood... but I found that that album was much harder to get into on repeat listens compared to Parachutes. I think that Parachutes is a very good "rainy day album" for the most part, with that kind of dark tone over the whole album. However, Rush of Blood never fits into a category like that. There are songs that work for really good moments and others that work for really blah moments and then the middle of the album (well, green eyes/warning sign/a whisper) feels very... out of place? Green Eyes is good, but I felt (and still feel) that they wanted to make another Yellow with that song. Warning Sign and A Whisper, I think its really the guitar work that annoys me. It's too biting and just not really Coldplayish. The work on X&Y, while it may not seem like Coldplay to the casual listener, definitely has Johnny's trademarks and it just sounds right. Warning Sign and A Whisper felt like missteps and that absolutely kills the album for me. So here it goes, in terms of listening preference and overall goodness:

The sound in X & Y is really amazing, but A Rush of Blood... didn't sound AT ALL like "mtv crap". The last album was brilliant in every way, and as for the new one, well, we got some really good songs like What If, Square One, Fix You and Speed of Sound, and I think that the album is yet to be "discovered".
