Chris Martin voted ''The worst lyricist ever''

Featured Replies

im gonna be truthful and say that Radiohead's lyrics blow Coldplay's away. That being said, Chris Martin is nowhere near the worst lyricist ever.

I cant stand all those people saying that

hey everyone want to make money! why not! i like both coldplay and radiohead and i dont see why people cant just shut up and listen to the damn music instead of making stupid comments claiming to be able to prove that thom's lyrics are better than chris' blah blah! its all subjective, so it means shit all to me!

:)

Radiohead, Coldplay bla, bla, bla...

both are so chucked and you flaterers of them too!

Chris Martin was voted ''The worst lyricist to ever walk the Earth'' by Radiohead fans

im a radiohead fan. im ashamed of my fellow radiohead fans. can someone explain to me since when did radiohead fansd start hating coldplay? did i miss a trend?!!! they are my two favourite bands... i would have thought people like radiohead would like coldplay, and vice verca....

maybe its cos the radiohead fans who did vote this, cant stand it that coldplay have taken the postiion radiohead held after ok computer... but then radiohead said themselves they didn't want to stay in that postition, that was partly the point of kid a/amnesiac....

i'm confused.... :o

^^Maybe you are not a good Radiohead fan then

Well you do have to agree that the lyrics to the songs of X&Y are not that good..but they make great vocals for the songs though..

some radiohead fans are assholes as simple as that, dont blame the band, blame the people with no life who spend time arguing on message boards about how much they hate one band and trying to lecture others about it :idea2:

Funny, I had a feeling someone like the singer from Crazy Town would get it...

(if you don't get it, take a look at Butterfly's Lyrics here

What's the point.

I havent even read all this post so I don't know what everyone has said while I write this but I love Radiohead and also Coldplay. They are both very different bands and I don't get why the so called fans at the radiohead site are THAT bothered about badmouthing Coldplay all the time.

They aren't doing themselves any favours and I don't want to be part of their crowd. I am more of a fan of Radiohead than they will ever be and I don't have to waste my time by having such pointless debates that alter nothing.

It's just to make them feel as if they have done something worth while with their day.

EDIT: I hate you, all you pointless time wasters.

Parachutes Lyrics = Raw, emotional.

AROBTTH Lyrics = Refined, beautiful, emotional, tear jerking

X&Y Lyrics = Advanced, hard to comprehend meaning, flowing

X&Y cannot be compared to AROBTTH, they are different albums and nothing will EVER 'beat' AROBTTH lyrics, because they were exceptional IMHO.

My 2 cents.

my brother was like i dont know how you love coldplay and dont like radiohead they are the same thing! i have to strongly refute that! I just cant get into radiohead what so ever, i hear them as 2 totally different bands.

these people need to get over it.

anyone can play radiohead,haha

I would never say X&Y's lyrics are advanced. I cite What If as my example:

"oooh, that's right"

What? Call those lyrics?

And the new version of Talk is atrocious lyrically, some of it doesnt even make sense. "I feel like they're talking in a language I don't speak, and they're talking it to me"

You cant talk something to someone. That's poor, Chris..

I liked the lyrics on Parachutes and A Rush Of Blood To The Head better. Which doesn't say anything about the lyrics on X&Y.

You quoted that Radiohead lyric WRONG, actually. "The Gloaming" may not be much of a song musically, but the lyrics do make definite sense if you quote the entire sentence, not take a tiny part out of context [repetitions removed]:

"they will suck you down to the other side

to the shadows blue and red, shadows blue and red

your alarm bells, your alarm bells

they should be ringing

this is the gloaming" (pretentious word for dawn)

So, not brilliant lyrics really, but very moving the way he repeats certain lines. This is one of the rare cases anyone can pretty much understand Thom. Hmm, what countries' flags are "blue and red." Could this, possibly, be his response to 9/11, a song condemning jingoism and "eye for an eye" violence?

I don't even know why this should be necessary because it's pretty indisputed Thom is a better LYRICIST than Chris Martin, but here, just to prove the point, has Chris ever come up with something like this? The subject of the song is actually very much like what Chris writes about. Now seriously, which is better?

- This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about when I trash these feeble-minded conformist tools. Wannabe avant garde art student philosophers. I don't give a good f#ck what Thom Yorke sings about, I commented on the idiocy of this hyperbolic thread, obviously started by some effete Radiohead fan. RH as a band is brilliant. But, some of Thom Yorke's lyrics display the prose of an angst-ridden middle school student. Don’t speak as if it’s a foregone conclusion that Thom Yorke is a superior lyricist. So what if Chris Martin chooses to sing sappy meaningless lamentations of love lost instead of biting political commentary masked in cosmically obscure Teutonic references? What makes Thom's lyrics better?

Similar subject matter I'm sure... one is total abject inanity, the other poetic commentary:

"Drag him out your window/Dragging out the dead/Singing I miss you

Snakes and ladders/Flip the lid/Out pops the cracker/Snaps you in the head."

v.

"Created, then drilled and invaded/If somebody made it/Someone will mess it up/And you are not wrong to ask who does this belong to/It belongs to all of us."

But I digress. This thread didn't start as a comparison between Radiohead and Coldplay. It started as a thinly veiled attack on CM as the worst lyricist ever, which is ridiculous.

WHY NOT BE HONEST? Fred Durst? Nashville Pussy? Good Charlotte? Jimmy Buffett?

And another thing, I DIDN'T misrepresent or misquote The Gloaming.
