Try reading the whole thread, and maybe you'll find out.

gay...

my country is like the only one in all Latin America to accept gay civil unions. Actually the gay community here is very powerful. Starting with some of our presidents... lol...

Oh well... besides Uruguay, it seems...

So does that mean it's now Urugay??

Heh, well... that whole concept bugs me (that there is a "gay community"). People shouldn't segregate themselves into political groups like that because it's obnoxious and does nothing for their cause. It should be approached from a "freedom for individuals" angle instead - after all, what is the government doing making laws about marriage to begin with?

If I was gay and lived in one of those death-penalty countries I'd quickly find a lesbian to hang out with and pretend we're husband/wife.

Symbiosis! :D

Symbiosis! :D

Can that be cleared up with antibiotics??

Oh yes... by that I meant specifically pro-gay rights community.

The "gay community" conception also annoys me, I think it's basically a group of certain people that consider being stupidly promiscuous, caring about nothing but looking good and making stupid pink-extravagant parades is the right way to call on society's attention about their problems.

Ooh - listen to you..............................

Lol one of my friends who is gay named joey hits on my straight friend at school all the time, its effing hilarious. he'd hit on him in front of the class, so everytime i see him(the kid getting hit on) i ask him how his boyfriend is doing, he usualy flicks me off and says fuck you when i say that.

I was reading through this thread and I found this really old post. As amusing as this is, it's part of the reason gays get a bad rap. I've had crushes on plenty of straight guys but I'd never embarrass them about it in front of their friends. It's just common courtesy.

Also, on another topic mentioned in this thread - I don't believe homosexuality is nature's response to "overpopulation". The Earth is capable of sustaining FAR more humans than there currently are. Like, several billion more. (The real limiting factor to population growth is affluence. Rich countries tend to have lower birth rates.) I think it's important that we not write homosexuality off to natural causes because then the race to find a cure isn't as pressing. The purpose of science is to give us options, and I'd like to have the option to be straight.

Homosexuality isn't actually illegal here, ie; there's nothing in Egyptian law that states that it is illegal here, so that map is inaccurate.

"Homosexuality is not mentioned in the law … However, since the current campaign of persecution of gay men was started in 2001, laws against 'habitual debauchery' (Law 10 of 1961 on the Combat of Prostitution) have been used to arrest, prosecute and imprison gay men. Sharia law does not apply." The "campaign", though, is thought to have almost ceased early 2004." (ILGA)

100%with you on this one.

It's nice to see all the support from straights on here, but I wonder if this is a symptom of their age, rather than a gradual shift toward society's acceptance? I don't mean to be a cynic but young people are generally more socially liberal than adults - maybe after people have kids and a family they stop being so tolerant of homosexuality?

Also, I was curious what peoples' thoughts are on gays adopting children. I'm sort of torn on this issue, because part of me thinks it's a good thing to offer them the kind of love only a family could provide... but at the same time I think it's good to have both a strong male and female role model in their developing years. Also I'd be afraid they'd get teased mercilessly by kids at school.

Hmmm I'm 34 which is pretty old around here ;-), and of course I can only speak for myself, but I've never really cared what other people do in bed or who they have sex with. I know many gay people (from work), and they're just like everyone else - some are nice, some are stupid... I agree though that I know a few people around my age who would happily say that they have nothing against gays and each to their own etc, but would totally freak out if one of their kids turned out to be gay.

I'm not sure about this either. While I do think that many gay men would probably make much better fathers than many straight men, I still think that a child should have a father and a mother, a male and a female person to grow up with. I think a big part of our society's problems these days it that so many children are being raised by a single parent, I'm a fan of the old-fashioned family I guess... :embarassed:

Always remember...with age comes wisdom...that should answer your question on children, as well. In my opinion, to each their own! Yup.

Im only 20 and one could say I am pretty liberal. My family is fairly moderate to liberal. I was raised to accept people no matter what they believe in or whom they love.

As far as homosexuals adopting children I strongly support it. I understand that people want a man and a woman in the house, but thats just to force apon the child the gender roles from our society. That a man has to be masculine and a woman feminine. But, we do not just learn from our parents who we are sexualy, we learn that from school, friends, television etc... A gay family can raise a very straight child. Plus, im sure alot of homosexual couples have friends and family members in which men and women play large roles in the child's life giving them the support from men and women, both gay and straight.

The children of the homosexual parents may or may not be teased. Hopefully, people begin to tolerate/accept homosexuality. Just think not to long ago America looked down at blacks and whites getting married(some still do), or different religions getting married. It is too bad that a child who has two loving parents will get teased just because they are both women or both men

This is America we are supposed to be free.... the land of equal opportunity.(This goes beyong the gay rights), and while we have alot of freedom here, we still have a long way to go.

sorry i rambled.. i just got really into my post:embarassed:
