JIMMY KIMMEL SHOW - THIS FRIDAY

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! TV appearance in the US has been brought forward to this Friday night (20th July)! More information here

Cheesy, tacky video. Just like the song.

Bad choice of single IMO.

...then again, it is very catchy, so I guess it'll probably do well. And it is slightly better when performed live.

It is worryingly catchy Steph but yeah too cheesy to do the Park any good through exposure I reckon. Shouldve gone with Parisian Skies maybe? So different to the usual. Or Sandblasted and Setfree?

See I don't even know if i'd choose those either! :laugh4: Eeeps.

I just feel like they tried far too hard with this 2nd album, particularily lyrically. And it just comes off pretentious and cinge-worthy. I mean, I adore Paul's songwriting, but I think he just pushed his style a bit too far on this album.

Songs like Karaoke Plays, Your Urge and A Fortnight's Time, lyrically, just make me want to puke, to be quite honest :sick2:  But it's hard to hate them because they do have other good aspects like great riffs etc.

Usually i'm one who's all "oh don't take notice of reviews/the NME" etc, but I actually hope that Paul specifically takes on some of what the reviews said about this 2nd album, because sadly I really agree with them.

Still gotta love the Park though. :D They've never dissapointed me once live, and i've seen them a good 6/7 times now, so I have a lot of respect for them.

Yeah live they are a really good 'lift you up' sort of band. You get involved, sing along etc but yeah album number 2 could have been better. I like where the actual music was headed with a change from the usual drum beat intro then a guitar riff like almost every song on ACT even though I love it but yeah the lyrics are just dire sometimes...I tore a sock to bind up your golden hair? Really Paul? Did you actually do that? And did this girl (assume its a girl) appreciate it? 3/5 stars in Q is probably about right tbh. But Steph how the hell are you? Hardly chat to you at all these days! You been away or going away?

I'm really good thanks mate!!! :) How about yourself? Starting uni soon yeah?

Yeah i've kinda just been on myspace and not much else recently. Don't even use MSN much anymore. But I did re-activate my facebook today! So that'll make it a bit easier to keep in contact :) if you still use yours that is!

but yeah the lyrics are just dire sometimes...I tore a sock to bind up your golden hair? Really Paul? Did you actually do that?

:laugh3:Ahahaha me and Kara always take the piss out of that line SO much  *CRINGE!*

Thought I should post this year....a video of 'Books from Boxes' I took at Pure Groove Records, 40person in-store gig, 5th April this year:

Yesterday I went to posh Hamburg (the new harbour area is gonna be amazing!) to see Maximo Park and their first of altogether two concerts in Hamburg was absolutely brilliant. They did a mixture between the first and second album. Highlights for me were "Sandblasted And Set Free", "Limassol" and of course "Apply Some Pressure".

I didn't expect that they would play "I Want You To Stay", "Parisian Skies" and "The Coast Is Always Changing" but they did! :D The biggest surprise for me was "Acrobat". I've never seen them performing this song before. Paul read his lyrics from a book which looked like a bible or something like that. Unfortunately I don't remember the whole setlist.

By the way their British support band "Blood Red Shoes" was astonishing! They reminded me a bit of the White Stripes.

Oxford Warm Up Show Announced

So another chapter draws to a close as our biggest UK Tour ended on Saturday with our third sell-out Brixton show of the tour. That will be our last UK jaunt for sometime now, and will probably be the last time we play so much of OEP in a single night, as next time we hope to return with a whole raft of new songs. In fact it could also be the last time we play Acrobat so much. It has been a long time coming and I think it has finally found its place in our live show, so thanks to all those that screamed and sang along!

But things are not over just yet as we have one final show back home headlining at the Newcastle Metro Arena on Saturday December 15th. It will be our biggest one-off show of our performing lives and we are working hard to make this a night to remember. There are still tickets left. If it's your first time to Newcastle you could do a lot worse than make a weekend of it and even squeeze some Christmas shopping in. Apparently Newcastle is a 'party city'!

2 days before the Newcastle show we will be playing a little warm-up show at the Oxford Academy on Thursday December 13th.

TO BUY TICKETS - THIS LINK - WILL BE LIVE FROM THIS SATURDAY MORNING AT 9AM

That's this Sat 21st October at 9am - limited to 4 tickets per person.

Thanks for reading.

Maximo Park: 'New album will push us into weird space'

Maximo Park have revealed that they have around 24 songs written or part-written in preparation for the recording of their next album, which they hope to release in early 2009.

The band told BBC 6music that they hoped the album would push them into a "weird space".

Maximo Park played at the V Festival last weekend (August 16 and 17), where they debuted a new song, 'The Kids Are Sick Again'. Frontman Paul Smith said that the song was about the effect of advertisements on the youth today.

"I guess I thought society as a whole is bombarded by advertisements and to me that's why the kids are sick again," he said. "It's a funny sounding phrase but it's a serious song - so it's a nice blend of being amused, but [also] I hope people sit up and take notice of it."

Drummer Tom English added: "They [the youth of today] can't express themselves anymore and this is for them."

Smith went on to reveal that the band had completed writing 20 new songs and had part-completed "three or four" in preparation for their third album, the follow-up to 2007's 'Our Earthly Pleasures'.

Speaking about how the album might sound Smith said: "We want to push ourselves in to a weird space."

Ohhh I cant wait to see Paul & The Park again and hopefully soon! they have to be some of the nicest guys Ive ever met, and Paul's knowledge on architecture and literature was quite impressive.

This is just great news to read!

being from new castle, its pretty difficult to understand these guys

oh, god, these guys are great!

2009 looks like a golden year for the u.k. music scene, jesus christ almost every fuckin band will release a new album.

And think about the verve and oasis.....both with a new album out to promote trough the whole 2009,we just need a blur album now

Excellent :)

Blur will never reform long enough to do an album, they might do a one-off show for charity, but sadly it's seems unlikely they will come back together.

actually saw these last night! They were really good. New songs sound good too!

Surprisingly enough they played a hefty amount from a certain trigger :)

Lucas is a lunatic and paul broke 2 mic stands good times :D

Maximo Park new album Quicken The Heart out in May

The album will be released on CD, LP (of course) and special edition CD + DVD, which includes a 65 minute tour film that is based around our sell-out home-coming show at Newcastle Arena. It’s been made by our friends Film Bee (who made Found On Film) using the live footage from the big screen and added backstage tomfoolery. To get a flavour of it, have a look at the clip from Limassol by visiting the all new website maximopark.com
