Arctic Monkeys!

Featured Replies

from Pitchfork:

"On November 14, Hip-O Records/Universal Music Enterprises will release Rhythms del Mundo, a collaborative record that unites members of the Buena Vista Social Club with their pasty white musical brethren. After obtaining permission from the various bands to modify their material, the Cuban collective (under the guidance of arranger Demitrio Muniz) created brand new backing tracks for the original vocals of songs like "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "She Will Be Loved".

Even Arctic Monkeys, who are known for not loaning their music to anybody, gladly submitted "Dancing Shoes" to the Club."

And this is the tracklist:

01 Coldplay - "Clocks"

02 Jack Johnson - "Better Together"

03 Arctic Monkeys - "Dancing Shoes"

04 Dido & Faithless - "One Step Too Far"

05 Ibrahim Ferrer - "As Time Goes By"

06 U2 and Coco Freeman - "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"

07 Maroon 5 - "She Will Be Loved"

08 Kaiser Chiefs - "Modern Way"

09 Omara Portuondo - "Killing Me Softly"

10 Vanya Borges feat. Quincy Jones - "Ai No Corrida" *

11 Sting - "Fragilidad"

12 Vanya Borges - "Don't Know Why" *

13 Aquila Rose & Idana Valdez - "Hotel Buena Vista"

14 Coco Freeman & Franz Ferdinand - "The Dark of the Matinee"

15 El Lele de Los Van Van and Radiohead - "High and Dry"

16 Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo - "Casablanca" [bonus track]

you can listen to clips from here

Personally, I think it's sounding VERY cool :laugh3:

MONKEYS BAN CHARITY VIDEO

00056EEE-7A96-13C6-8DF40C01AC1BF814.jpg

WHEN it comes to saving the planet, most bands are jumping on the charity bandwagon.

But not the Arctic Monkeys. The band have been accused of putting their "ethics" ahead of beating global warming in a furious bust-up with a leading charity.

Climate-change group APE (Artists' Project Earth) had signed up the Monkeys alongside U2, Radiohead, Coldplay, Dido, Kaiser Chiefs and Sting for its Rhythms Del Mundo charity album compilation.

The Arctics agreed to allow their song Dancing Shoes to be given a Buena Vista Social Club-style re-mix for the album. But have now been branded "super-precious" after they scuppered the video accompanying their song - after they'd seen it on GMTV.

Despite the charity splashing out £10,000 on the Club Havanastyle video, the stroppy Sheffield lads, led by bratty frontman Alex Turner, right, said that they "don't do advertising" and don't want it to be appear on TV again.

They also don't want their name appearing on advertising for the CD.

And things reached a head this week when one of the Monkey's management team rang the charity and allegedly shouted: "F**k global warming."

Our source tells us: "The Monkeys were initially very excited about the project as it's for such a good cause. The charity sent them a copy of the video for approval and presumed everything was OK. But once it was shown briefly on GMTV, all hell broke loose as the Monkeys' people consider it 'advertising'."

Now the charity is furious and says the band's actions are not only harming the album, but hurting the fight against global warming.

"The song can't be played on the music channels because now there's no video to go with it," says our nark. "So sales are seriously hit. The other much bigger acts such as Coldplay and U2 have been true professionals - unlike the Monkeys."

A spokesman for the band failed to respond - but you can see the video on You Tube where it's been getting rave reviews.

LMFAO the Mirror. No one is safe from their poisonous grip. :laugh4: "source" "nark", wow, what trust worthy journalism they offer. I believe bits and pieces, but until it comes from another source...

If they win a Grammy I'd basically shit myself. Then die from the laughter.

Here's who they're up against, from grammy.com:

Best Alternative Music Album

(Vocal or Instrumental.)

* Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

Arctic Monkeys

[Domino Recording]

* At War With The Mystics

The Flaming Lips

[Warner Bros.]

* St. Elsewhere

Gnarls Barkley

[Downtown/Atlantic]

* Show Your Bones

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

[interscope Records]

* The Eraser

Thom Yorke

[XL Recordings]

Ohhh I want the Flaming Lips or Yorke to win. Because the Arctics won't even want it anyways. :laugh4:

dude, you know gnarls barkley's going to win that. anybody on that list would be awesome to win it anyway. the yeah yeah yeahs album rules.

Totally. On both counts.

Personally I think We Are Scientists should crash the party and come flying on the stage mounted on ostriches and steal the awards for themselves.

Just a fantasy, though.

oh. my. god.

LMFAO.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ooooh I was reading about the new album in NME today, it sounds like it's gonna be a corker. Alex said that this album so far has a lot of 'From the Ritz to the Rubble' and 'The View from the Afternoon' sound to it.

Which sounds fucking excellent to me as those are two of my faves from the first album (lmfao, or just the ones that make me air-drum the most :laugh4:)

Although i'd still really like to hear some 'Riot Van' type of stuff too. I think they're much better at slow tracks than they think they are. 'Despair in the Departure Lounge' is one of my fave Arctics tracks, it's brilliant.
