Official Juno Awards Thread

Featured Replies

So, Coldplay is playing at the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys... and I bought pit tickets this last weekend. Actually, I have a few extra... and I'd like to offer them to local fans to buy before I try and get rid of them somewhere else.

So, you can use this thread, or PM me to find out more about the tickets.

As well, this thread can be used to say more (as more is found out) about the performance of the boys in Halifax. I'll let you know anything I find out and any other local fans can dish the news here if they find anything out (i.e. local concerts, radio contests, etc).

Any speculation on what they'll be playing? Do you think they'll have a new single by then? (April 2nd)...

either way... Coldplay will be in our great city soon! :D :D :D

I think it's safe to say that they'll play something other than Talk, Fix You or Speed of Sound by then, and that if their next single isn't out yet, that performance will be indicative of what the 4th single will be.

My guess is Swallowed In The Sea or White Shadows, but I guess that's everyone's guess for next single!

I've heard White Shadows or The Hardest Part from a lot of places too. I think A Message or X&Y would make great singles too.

They could go Green Day style and release every album track as a single :idea2:

If they went beyond a fourth single, they wouldn't release it anywhere outside Europe. They still don't get the radio play in North America that would make a fifth single successful.

If you look at where X&Y singles have been on the charts so far, Speed of Sound did well, while Fix You and Talk have not really ...

But releasing a lot of singles would be cool! Though it hasn't really been their style in the past.

I know a lot of people are speculating The Hardest Part, but I'm not convinced that this is very official. I've never heard the band talk about this song once in an interview, aside from when they were explicitly asked about it around the time of the album's release.

The band's favorite songs out of those unrleased:

Chris - A Message, What If

Will - White Shadows

Johnny - Low, White Shadows, What If

Guy - Low (not positive about this)

I'm basing this on a bunch of stuff I've read that they've said etc...

So if they are performing Square One at the Brits, then they probably are playing that at the Juno awards. very exciting!

maybe square one is the new single  that would be cool :D

They're doing Square One at the Britts?!

Since when?

Is it confirmed?

Yea, I haven't heard anything about Square One (although, it will be good to hear a new song live.. even though I love Talk)...

But, that'd be good...

Did they officially announce they were going to do that at the Brits?

^not that I've heard, though I guess we'll know tomorrow, won't we?

Just out of curiosity, I know me and autumnjoy got ahold of some of the earlybird tickets, but did anyone else on here?

The announced what all the lineups where doing on some website... Check coldplaying.com they list their source but who knows, maybe they will change their minds. As of right now, coldplay is scheduled to play square one

X&Y - Coldplay EMI

Nominated for Best International Album

Right from the first single, "Yellow," going to No. 1 at rock radio in Canada to the British pop band's No. 1 single, "Talk," Canada has embraced the band. With concerts that sell out in a minute to police escorts at radio stations, Coldplay is well aware of Canada's devotion. The most recent album, X&Y, debuted at No. 1 in 32 countries, including Canada. Their current tour includes a stop at the 2006 JUNO Awards in Halifax.

I could have told you that... do artist even go to award shows that they're not nominated at? :p Oh well.. that's great, huh? And I'd bet that there's a better chance they'll win because they're there (I always find thats a wierd coincidence)..

Anyways, congrats to the boys!!! :D

I can't wait to see them in town.

The Junos are gonna be good. Broken Social Scene is performing. :uhoh:

and the Black Eyed Peas?

oy.. who ordered them? :P

  • Author

man, tickets sold out again in a matter of minutes (for regular seating) and a friend of mine has a sister that paid... oy... $100 for nosebleed seats!!! I paid $95 more for standing on the floor, and tickets to all the concerts in the city on the weekend and tickets to the hockey game...

:D

  • 3 weeks later...
Patio season is coming to Halifax two months early this year thanks to the Junos.

Although restaurants and bars normally open their patios in May, Halifax regional council voted Tuesday to change the rules to accommodate the crowds expected for the big music event. Patios will now open on March 27, four days before the Juno festivities are set to begin.

Oy... anyone notice that?

Question- what person in their right mind would actually WANT to sit at a resturant patio in Halifax in March/April? You're going to either get rained on, snowed on, or at the very least, frozen solid. :worried2:

Granted, the resturants are probably going to be packed, but...

...I'm shivering just thinking about it.

yea, I heard that... althouhg, if today's temperatures are any indication, it might not be too bad a few weeks from now

(I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S ONLY A FEW WEEKS AWAY!!!! SOOOOO EXCITED)

In other Juno news... I saw on the telly that Black Eyed Peas has been confirmed as well as Headly... So, not too exciting, but... still should be a couple more Canadian acts announced... hopefully... *crosses fingers for Arcade Fire*

Halifax native Buck 65, R&B newcomer Divine Brown and indie soul star Massari are the final acts announced for the April 2nd Junos in Halifax.

The group joins previously announced performers Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Bryan Adams, Michael Buble, Nickelback, Bedouin Soundclash, Broken Social Scene and Hedley.

The Junos will be broadcast (7-9 p.m., CTV) from the Halifax Metro Centre with Pamela Anderson as host. There is also an eTalk red carpet pre-show beginning at 6:30 p.m.

A Year to Remember at Halifax's 2006 Junos Awards

The Juno Awards have been getting bigger and bigger every year, but it looks like this year's trip to Halifax could prove to be the best destination yet for the music awards with a number of announcements over the last month that are sure to inspire fans. Among the 11 musical performances that have been announced, some of the biggest names include Coldplay, Michael Bublé, Nickelback, the Black Eyed Peas, and Massari.

Since CTV took over broadcasting the awards in 2002 the Junos have been held in St. John's (2002), Ottawa (2003), Edmonton (2004), and Winnipeg (2005). Each year the show has seemed to become just a little bigger. Hosts like Shania Twain and the Barenaked Ladies took the stage and wowed the crowds, events took place all over the host cities, and of course, awards were handed out.

But 2006 just seems to be a notch bigger than ever before. With Pamela Anderson as this year's host, and all the artists who will be performing, on top of the Juno Weekend events, it's easy to get a bit excited about this year's Juno festivities.

The full list of performers for the Juno Awards telecast on Sunday, April 2nd include: Coldplay, Michael Bublé, Nickelback, Black Eyed Peas, Hedley, Buck 65, Divine Brown, Massari, Bedouin Soundclash, Broken Social Scene and 2006 Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Bryan Adams.

For fans attending the events in Halifax it doesn't stop there though. On Friday, March 31st at 7:30 p.m. at the Halifax Forum fans can check out the Juno Cup where Canadian musicians take on NHL Greats for a fundraiser supporting the music education program, MusiCan.

On Friday and Saturday, JunoFest takes to the clubs and music venues of Halifax and will include over 100 local, regional and national artists. Among the artists set to perform are Pilate, Corb Lund, Sloan, The Road Hammers, plus Juno nominees Elliott Brood and Ron Sexsmith.

Fans can also head over to Juno Fan Fare on Saturday to get autographs from their favorite Juno nominees, and on Sunday afternoon before the big Juno telecast, the Songwriters' Circle will include Alan Doyle, Martha Wainwright, and Ron Sexsmith, among others, talking about their careers and performing songs.

Finally, there's the industry's Gala Dinner and Awards, which is where most of the Juno Awards will be handed out. Unfortunately, this means that a lot of amazing artists won't get their time on national TV, but it also means that Sunday evening's telecast won't drag on for hours.

If you aren't lucky enough to have a ticket to the Junos, or to catch any of the other events over the weekend, you can tune in to CTV on Sunday, April 2, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm (ET). Plus, stay tuned to The GATE's Juno Awards Spotlight for ongoing coverage, including interviews, photos, the 'Juno Blog', and the top stories from the Junos.

anyone know if they are playing these awards on the US???

Sienna, I have no idea.

Up untill Coldplay announced that they were coming, even most Canadians didn't really care about the Junos, so I don't think that any American network would show it, but I have a reputation for being very cynical about these things.

That said, they are aired on CTV, and CTV has some big fancy deal cooking with MTV, so there's always a chance that one of MTV's US channels might show it.

CTV? That's the country music channel here in the US I think.. but hell I'd watch it if they'll be televising the Junos!

CTV stand for Canadian TeleVision haha.

I could have tried to get tickets but I don't really want to see Nickleback or Black Eyed Peas, or Bedouin Soundclash, or Hedly or Pamela Anderson hosting. I'm saving my money for the Our Lady Peace concert.

Plus the highlight of Juno fest is the *FREE*! concert with the Trews, Matt Mays, Pilate, In-Flight Safety......on and on. Now that is something to look forward to.

 Up here CMT is the country music station. CTV is more like the Canadian equivalent of ABC or NBC.

On another note, if the last acts have been announced, it means that Arcade Fire won't be playing. Rats. I was really hoping they would.
