[News] The first song written by Coldplay? It's 'So Sad' and not 'Ode To Deodorant'

Featured Replies

Voices spread on web and real speculations state that the first song ever written by Coldplay is 'So Sad', a song never released and never listened by nobody.

In any case, Debs of Coldplay.com has a tape. In this tape someone registered the song.

In fact, ex-manager Phil Harvey has confirmed that 'So Sad' is the very first song written by Coldplay...

All the Coldplay fans will hope that this situation will end with the same result as for Ode To deodorant...

that sounds crazy:confused: . I reeealy hope we can get a copy of that.

You know there is prob earlier written songs, which will never see the light of day because chris thought the lyrics were crap.

I doubt it will. People begged for years for Ode, and the only reason we got it was because there were what? 3-5 tapes that are floating around the world in the hands of collectors - one happening to be Corricopat who was gracious enought to get us all a copy.

Ā

With this new "revelation" I do not think it will ever see the light of day. How many copies of this supposed demo tape exist? 1?

Ā

Maybe Chris has one and maybe Debs has one, since Ode was the tape they sent out to get noticed. So possibly 2 copies. Does anyone actually think they will let those tapes go?

Ā

I hardly doubt it - petition or no petition.

Ā

Best case scenario - Debs will see this petition and 10 years from now when Coldplay puts out a boxset of their material or a retrospective cd or the band breaks up and EMI/Parlophone needs some cash - they will release this song to the public. Anytime soon is merely wishful thinking.

Ā

Makes me sad that I will prob never hear it.:(

^ I agree. Debs has always had Ode to Deodorant and she never spread that around. It can probably get her in very deep water as well, putting an unreleased song (especially for free) out like that. I also thought it was known that Ode to Deodorant was not the first song written.. it's just the first song they released, along with Brothers and Sisters.

Ā

where did they find Phil for God sake?

Maybe he confirmed it a long time ago? Though Phil and the boys still keep in touch, apparently. Chris talks a bit about him and how he contributes to the band in one of the Aussie interviews!

Anyway, is or not is a good motivation to struggle?

Even if the worst case scenarios are true, what harm can it do to sign the petition?? Go for it!!

It'd be nice to hear this song but I don't think we'll ever hear it.

Apparently he's still around! I don't remember very well, but I think it was the Merrick and Rosso interview where Chris talks about him..

If it's not that one I'll listen to the others again and see which interview it was.

Well, I doubt we'll ever hear it. To be honest, it kinda sucked that we heard Ode to Deodorant, because I kinda liked that secret about it, and the mistery.. And now that we all have it, that mistery is kinda gone. And I'm glad we have a new mysterious song now :P
