Post-Rock Bands

Featured Replies

Alright, here's a thread for all sort of post-rock bands..

you just talk about these bands as much as you like, and post links for downloads.. pics.. etc.

Personally i like Explosions In The Sky a lot.. i've been into this band for quite a while now..

i'm new to listening to it so i'm not that good.. so making this thread will probably widen my knowledge in it ..

(thanks Lirak for the idea )

edit: oh and i forgot to mention Sigur Ros, one of the best bands out there, EVER! :nice:

I downloade Explosion in the Sky some days ago, only heard 2 songs so far.. but i really loved them

Sigur Ros, My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai, Do Make Say Think, Tortoise, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Slint, Spiritualized

these are great post-rock bands. check something from them if you can

oh and i probably forgot someone

EDIT:

Eluvium!!!

well i'm not good at this specific genre but i do enjoy sigur ros, mogwai and tv on the radio.

I don't know much about this sub-sub-genre, as I believe in the 2-genre system which has fallen out of favour lately as it's too simple. Music is either Good or Bad.

indeed a very good thread, i would reccomend Samuel Jackson Five, 65daysofstatic, because of ghosts and september malevolence (besides those bands that were already mentioned).

Yes that's it. I heard, while I was talking with some buddies, that I listen to a few Post-Rock bands, never knowing which genre it really represents.

Post-Rock would mean what comes after Rock, but for me My Bloody Valentine or Explosions In The Sky (who I love) are quite Rock bands.

And when it comes to Godspeed You ! Black Emperor (that I love too), i think "Post"-Rock sounds a bit pompous for a band that's doing nothing very different from Pink Floyd's 1970 Atom Heart Mother.

Anyway I like all those bands that have been mentioned here.

Mogwai are the best in Post-rock .

GY!BE have to one of the best bands I've ever listened to. Mint.

Explosions are brilliant. Their new album is they're best imo, I'm glad they;ve started using other instruments, makes them sound a bit different :D

My Bloody Valentine are considered post-rock? Hmm

Oh THAT's what you call this sort of music. What a shitty name, that means nothing.

I don't know the definition anyway so I'll just say

Godspeed You ! Black Emperor,

Kepler,

Ölvis (I think he really doesnt fit, only some songs),

Stop it, you're killing me (I think they broke up, though, or changed their name to vanashing panda, something like this, I think it's just one person anyway)

and.... Uh, I can't think of the others right now.

hi-five to all who mentioned Explosions In the Sky!

Sigur Ros are rather poppy sometimes though, right? I mean the last album...

Oh well, I don't know, what do these categories mean anyway.

(Damn, Chris015 I cant stop staring at your sig!)

Sigur Ros are amazing. huh? what do you mean by 'poppy' ?

I mean, sometimes they don't sound like what I thought 'post rock' sounds like. I didn't mean I don't like it.

the lyrics?

In your signature you mean? No the band.

If you were refering to Sigur Ros, my icelandic is rather poor.

I sometimes dislike how Jónsi sings in falsetto almost always. I sometimes get sick of it and skip the track.
