March 10, 200719 yr Well? What do you think? I know he jokes alot. I'm not saying I think he is. What do you think? I will say that sometimes it feels like he runs along this odd line between, "We're the best band in the world", and "We're ok, I mean sometimes, but we're trying, really we are". So, I think he might have some issues on either end but: Do you think Chris Martin is cocky?
March 10, 200719 yr He's said before that they're an incrediably arrogant band, but at the same time, they have all these other bands that keep them in check. I think he just feels like they need to work as hard as possible to validate what they've been given (Which he's said many a time). I don't know. The man is crazy. That's all I know.
March 10, 200719 yr Hes an asshole. I don't know.. I haven't met him on my own to determine that.. But lately it seems so.
March 10, 200719 yr Author Hes an asshole. I don't know.. I haven't met him on my own to determine that.. But lately it seems so. Hmmm. Has anyone seen him in Extras? I know he was acting, but sometimes, it feels like he's really like that. Even though it wouldn't ever be on that level. And in the end, I don't think he's like that, but sometimes, sometimes.
March 10, 200719 yr Hes an asshole. I don't know.. I haven't met him on my own to determine that.. But lately it seems so. ^^ :laugh3: yup, I agree. In the past year I've actually grown to dislike him. And it upsets me because back in the day I loved him :(
March 10, 200719 yr I wouldn't say he's too cocky... the opposite actually. I think he's too insecure, and so he says silly things to try to motivate himself, forgetting how dumb they sound. And then I cringe. But based on personal experience, he's one of the nicest people I ever met, and I really think the media (and cranky fans) like to distort him a bit.

I've never actually met him, so I wouldn't know. I could see him being insecure. Or at least one of those insecure guys that actually think their stuff is good(or alright), but want other's approval and what-not, so they dont' know what to do. Whether they should think badly of themselves, or puff themselves up.
March 10, 200719 yr I think you and Erin sum it up well. I doubt he's arrogant, ((when he says the next song/slbum is the best song/album EVER, he does that with other bands too, it's just Chris.), He jokes around alot, and it doesn't always translate as a joke, especially in print, lol, and fans take every word that issues forth so bloody seriously. I think he's insecure and sometimes overcompensates for it with what he says.
March 10, 200719 yr He's like we all would be with £25m in the bank, a hollywood wife, two kids, several homes, three platinum selling albums, a couple of worldwide tours, an SUV and worldwide status... happy. Jealous?

March 10, 200719 yr Chris is down on himself just as much as he 'ups' himself and the band. Just a strange guy..up and down type of person.
March 11, 200719 yr He's not cocky. And the band it's not arrogant AT ALL! I can say -from my experience- that they are very down to earth, funny and low key. Chris on stage is one thing, on the street is another. He's a normal person with the fans. But I think that maybe when talking to the press he's more serious because if you're not tough they can destroy you. At least here in Latinamerica the press was very tough and mean to them -and Chris didn't want to play that 'game' so people thought he was cocky.
March 11, 200719 yr One word... NICE. I've never read, heard or seen Chris being arrogant at all, from what I can gather he just likes having a laugh and feels very very lucky for having the best job in the world and is constantly thanking the fans for giving him the best job in the world - see his post card on the Coldplayer - he said 'thank you for my job' again! Even when he does come across as 'arrogant' you can be sure that a week or so later he'll be apologising and saying to an interviewer "I can be a real k**b sometimes". C,J,G,W are just 4 normal, down to earth, cool, funny guys that are probably still adjusting to being not Coldplay but COLDPLAY. Regardless of what you think of X&Y, the guys admitted that they were treating the recording/writing in the early phase of the record as a 'day job' and that they'd go out for a nice meal afterwards. The cool thing is that they realised the way they were acting and set about returning to the way things were when they first met. What am I trying to say? I don't know, so I'll end by saying Chris, Jonny, Guy, Will, you rock.
March 11, 200719 yr he can sometimes be a little bit over the top, yes. but we still love him! ;) same thought, the love is still there  i can't speak for everyone but i think a lot of what he says is either lost in translation or taken out of context.
March 11, 200719 yr Like I said on another thread, Chris once said that the 10% they put aside for charity was up one of the band's noses...I hope noone took THAT seriously, but I'm sure someone did... Alot of it is, as you say, lost in translation or taken out of context or people just can't tell when he's joking. Even when he is short with people it's usually because they're asking about his personal life or won't leave him alone.Defending your privacy or space doesn't make you cocky, just human. (And please spare me the 'he's famous so he shouldn't act like that' stuff. Fame and money aren't a miracle cure for imperfections.) He goes out of his way to be as accessible as someone in his position can be, but for some reason, some people would rather talk about the negative. EDIT: I'm not referring to anyone on this thread, or this thread itself. I'm glad there's a place to discuss it. (But you should have called it something stupid like The Cocky Chris Club. You'd have gotten more replies, lololol. )
March 11, 200719 yr I think its the pressure of being the most popular band in the world that probably gets him a little stressed out every now and then.
March 11, 200719 yr (And please spare me the 'he's famous so he shouldn't act like that' stuff. Fame and money aren't a miracle cure for imperfections.) Could you imagine if they were? Everyone would be so miserable... We'd have even more to live up to, people's self images would be even worse, and everyone would complain that the stars were too boring. There's a reason the Greek gods were pretty messed up.

I think he's insecure and sometimes overcompensates for it with what he says. That pretty much sums up how I feel. It bothers me when fans are so hard on Chris. He has a wonderful life, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have bad days or that he won't somehow manage to say totally the wrong thing at least once a week! He obviously has a sense of humor that sometimes doesn't come across all that well; fans just need to accept that IMO. He seems like a nice enough person to me, and he does shoulder much more of the "frontman" responsibility than the other band members do. So, we're going to see many more of his bad moments than the other Coldplay musicians. It just seems unfair that many fans think he's changed so much, in a negative way, since his marriage and the success of AROBTTH. Like all of us, he is evolving some as he grows older, but he's still the same Chris everyone used to like underneath. Those are my thoughts on the subject, anyway. I like Chris alot, and it makes me sad when I read how quite a few fans don't any more. Gossip writers and the *&^! Rolling Stone love to be negative about Chris and his wife. Maybe that negativity is just becoming accepted as reality, when it actually isn't 100% accurate?
March 11, 200719 yr i think not only chris any one who jokes around a lot...looks like they are cocky but the attitude is like that cannot be changed. But not only today right from earlier days they began giving live concerts and albums chris is like that. he jokes a lot once at glastonbury festival 2000 while playing you only live twice he said smiling a bit and joking we wrote this song for robby williams and kept his face like a wacko well i am shocked as well as laughed a lot after that...chris jokes a lot really:laugh3:
