The National

Featured Replies

Yeah, it's usually only played by atmospheric acts like Sigur Ros and The xx, and I believe James Blake is playing there soon.

Sounds pretty great. It might suit The National too.

Saw The National live on Wednesday, simply amazing! I got front row and saw them w/ my brother, Rudy, Lore & Chelsea! St. Vincent came on stage to perform one song with the band which was great. Also Matt reached out and used my brother's hand to get into the crowd for Mr. November (subsequently Matt sort of stepped on my hand a little). ALSO! Matt gave Lore a mic stand lol!

It was an amazing show!

Mike you have to post that epic pic from the back when he handed Lore the Mic stand, its Sick!!!

Don't Swallow The Cap

One of the best song in the new album. I think that my podium would be completed with another 2 ones mentioned more above, Humiliation and Graceless.

Last night's show was amazing. Ugh 2 hours and 20 minutes of perfection.

Matt went down like properly into the crowd and walked around to both sides. He then thanked people for groping him. They did a six song encore ending with an acoustic version of vanderlyle crybaby geeks, with everyone there singing, and Matt in the crowd again. The atmosphere there was incredible.

Oh and when Matt went into the crowd the first time I just saw a guy caress his beard. I am quite jealous of that man.

The fact they tweeted about it twice made me so happy

Ignoring the fact that I almost fainted, just before they came on, and had to be pulled out from second row.... one of the best shows I've been to.

That sounds awesome Emma! Now I can't wait to see them live in 3 days even more. :bomb:

I had the fainting problem at the Arctic Monkeys gig a few days ago. I had to leave the ~5th row cause I almost fainted. I don't want this to happen again when I see The National.

Why do you guys have the fainting problem? is it just from being surrounded by so many people/standing up/etc?

I actually still feel sick, so I might just have had a fever that day :uhoh: that plus the crowd was probably too much for my body. It was the first time it happened to me.

I had no problem when I saw Radiohead or Iggy Pop from the ~5th row aswell. I don't know what caused it this time around. Not enough fresh air I think.

Apart from festivals I always have a 1st or second row row spot because I am obesssively OCD.

Was the crowd rough? Because that's typical of Arctic Monkeys. I've been in the 2nd row for Arctic Monkeys before and really wanted to leave after a while because of how rough it was getting and how smashed into the people around me I was.

Now I'm a coward at their shows and chill in the back, haha. But The National's crowds are very tame.

Yup, it was very rough. I still enjoyed the gig though.

Well that's great, as I'll try to get as close to the stage as I can on The National :wacky:

Seen them live last night and they were absolutely amazing. I was in the 2nd row first, but then went to the 6th row for a better view.

Local Natives opened for them and they were great too. Aaron joined them and played guitar on 'Heavy Feet'.

Also during Local Natives' set, guys from The National were on the rooftop of a nearby building, watching the set. Two guys around me and me waved them and Aaron saw us and waved back :awesome:

(This is the best pic I could get with my shitty mobile phone camera. You can easily recognize Aaron and Bryan there, in the middle. I'm not sure about the rest.)

And then The National came and fucking killed it. The setlist was great. They played Slow Show, which they played only 4 times on this tour so far.

Squalor Victoria live is the best thing ever.

Matt fucked up Humiliation twice, so they had to restart it

Also he stole somebody's pink rabbit ears and put them on his head.

They also invited everyone to an afterparty at the pool next to the venue, but I couldn't go unfortunately. Maybe they were just kidding, who knows.

Overall, one of the best shows I've seen so far. The only thing I didn't like was the beer. It was awful.

Beer at festivals is always awful. Anyway, I'm really really glad you liked the gig! It looks so much better than the one they had at Križanke two years ago and the new songs must be awesome live. Aaaaahhhh. :wacky:

It wasn't a festival, it was their own show, but the beer was still awful. INmusic festival had better beer though :P

But what made me especially happy, is that The National posted my photo from the show on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151462183341010&set=a.10151462176781010.1073741842.11539801009&type=1

Hey. I heard The National were pretty damn good but I need some place to start. What's their best album?

ALLS!!

There's really no good consensus on that actually. You can't go wrong with the last 4, but I'm most fond of Alligator.

Alligator. Boxer is a close 2nd.

Alright alright. Thanks thanks. :)

High Violet was the album that got me into them, so I'd say that one. But Alligator is great too

So basically, just get all of them, lol. I've gotta say (I just briefly have listened to a couple of songs off Boxer) they are an acquired taste. I mean, is the lead singer always singing low? I just gotta get used to it, then I'll start to see the brilliance... I hope.

But, then again, I remember saying the same thing about Arcade Fire and now they're my second favorite band. Ya never know.

High Violet got me into them, then Boxer. Soo.... idk. Seeing them live helps a lot, too.
